He is out.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh, speaking in a conference call this afternoon, said Jeff Van Gundy is no longer on his list of head coaching candidates after speaking to him today on the phone.

Walsh admitted he is down to a short list after Scott Skiles accepted the Bucks job yesterday.

"(Jeff's) not going to be a candidate for the coaching job for his own personal reasons," Walsh said. "I have nothing but respect for Jeff."

its all good. I am under the belief that that an X's and O's coach isnt important... rather we should get a teacher and a motivator. I would be more than happy with any of the Isiah coaches except Isiah. Lenny, Chaney, Herb or Larry.. all would be fine. What we need are better players and a staff dedicated to working with them

I can't say it's a shock that JVG ain't coaching. I'm ready to accept Jackson as our coach. From all indications, it's inevitable.

Disturbing... Walsh admits he didn't contact Skiles soon enough. It's either lip service or him not being exhaustive as he should be doing this coaching search. I'm getting a bad Vibe from DW. This guy is just saying stuff, almost reminiscent of what I SAY UGH would say in a given situation.

If you can't move Craw and Curry then having Skiles is not a good idea.

Im not saying they are our cornerstones, but its just not a great idea.

Thats crazy plyers are suppose to learn nothing about basketball. Talk about setting the team back even more. If the teacher can't teach X's and O's then we are screwed. Basketball is all about X's and O's. X's and O's are very important its what basketball is all about. The Knicks need a solid choice for coach someone that will stick and teach the players X's and O's and teach them the importance of executing the plays on a high level.

As for getting fresh players in here thats very obvious we all know that is needed.

I dont know if I would use the word "disturbing" especially in reference to Skiles whom I consider to be average at best and carries a lot of dictator-ish baggage with him. I think Walsh was just trying to be nice. I support.

JVG hasn't proved anything above avg after his talented veteran laden team he had in NY with a system he stole from Riley and got a big contract for it.

If he would have won after his stint in NY, He would have proved me wrong.

Larry Brown??? Hasnt he continually put his own self interests above any organization that employs him?

Brown's antics fit right into the circus atmosphere crested by Isiah. No need to revist Brown.

No need to keep Isiah here but that's not stopping them.

I would love have JVG come back to NY. He is without doubt the most successful Knick's coach in recent history.

GRUNFELD had a lot to do with that success, jeff just went on for the ride.

I would love to see LB do his thing in NY TO FINISH THE JOB.

It would only be fair to let Larry show Isiah his plan to get ri of dead weight was the right idea after all.

In other words, why bring in another overpaid coach who won't be here in 3 years to coach players who likely won't be here in 3 years either? There's some merit to that approach. If we truly are doing a 180, then the roster will be overturned again. I can't say that that is the approach, but it should be. After Isiah's time here, the roster is worse than it was before he arrived, which is downright scary.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
