In what only could be a fitting end to a horrible season (after several before that), Chandler hurt his knee. What happened...did anybody watch the Celts game? Does it look bad (like the NY Post suggests)?

he's 20 yrs old, he should bounce back by next yr.

in the month of april28.7 minutes
12 ppg in 52% shooting
6 rpg
1.8 apg
0.5 spg
1.3 TO

And guess what he's already the best shot blocker in the team.

X-rays were negative.

playa - one of the best features of The Mayor's stat line (which only tells part of the story) is his nearly 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. That number, for a big man, is something else to build on - should our beloved Knicks decide to become a track team.

Rumble young man, rumble (and get him a lead guard to run wif!)

Get Well

last year, mardy collins put up some numbers in equally meaningless games. unfortunately mardy also got injured in those meaningless games and didn't bounce back all season this year. hopefully it's not the same case for chandler.

anyway, i'm not sold until Chandler does it from november to january in games the opposing team is actually trying to win.

Put The Mayor on Dallas or Phoenix and you're kvetching and wringing your hands over, "howcum we can't get guys like dis?"

So question.....should the Knicks look to put a real bonified starter ahead of Wilson Chandler? If so where does Balkman go? Jared Jefferies? Q?

I wish the Knicks could delete Jared and Q....such a freakin waste.

I was very low on the other NY greats(Mardy Collins, Lavor Postell, Frank Williams), but I think Chandler is going to be able to contribute. He's got some skills.
I just hope that people will like me

Like mista said, do you see the kid's skill set ?

Don't even put him in the breath of Mardy "TIMID" Collins.

Objects In The Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear

Anji - you conveniently omitted The Mayor's fluid ball handling, three-point range, explosion to the rack, willingness to mix it up inside and do the dirty work of rebounding in traffic and his unselfish play.

He plays within the context of game flow and makes excellent decisions on shot selection, running the floor and passing the basketball. Best of all, Chandler is intelligent.

Statistics don't make players, skill-sets make players.

riiiight. and while i was busy complaining the knicks made the playoffs, right?

the question i ask these days is "howcum we won three games in a row when we had a legit chance of drafting derrick rose and changing our fortunes instead of trying to convince ourselves that this bench player is gonna keep playing great in games that matter?"

the games he displayed said skill set in were games where the other team had NOTHING to play for. NOTHING. i'm certainly not rooting against him, I hope he can be a valuable piece of a turn around. but basing any assumptions or evaluations on these meaningless games is ridiculous.

am I the only one who remembers you raving about how Mardy Collins was the answer all last April?

Agreed it's too early to tell how he'll turn out but i'd settled for an athletic Bryon Rusell type player, not half bad either.

He's got a good start. If he can improve his handle, and develop his all around game, he can be a good starter.

Rookie Wilson Chandler's MRI showed no ligament tear. Chandler has a sprained knee and will be on crutches two weeks, but he'll be available for Las Vegas summer league in July. Walsh said Chandler is in the long-range plans and he could start at small forward next season for Quentin Richardson.

Many of you aren't that keen when it comes to evaluating skill set talent.

If we had a real coach , Chandler would have been way ahead on his learning curve in the NBA and we all would have seen his progress.

Comparing his to mardy collins late season rush is an insult.

Byron Russell type? Chandler has a lot of power in his game. Russell was more of a Mo pete.....like just a big shooting guard.

I'd compare Chandler more to a Jerome Kersey, Xavier McDaniel, Keith Van Horn, etc.....Wilson has the strength to contend with power fwds yet he is quick enough and patient enough to guard quicker small-fwds and some shooting guards.

Who knows what this kid will be? I hope he can get quicker and more assertive. I wish Balkman could start nailing those jumpers. I also hope to hit the Mega Millions.

No, you're not the only one. The rest of us are ignoring misterearls pontification of Chandler. Next year misterearl will find a new flavor of the month, then he'll act like he was the first one to understand his skill set and continue to beat us over the head with quotes, offered as some kind of proof that he was the one that discovered him.

If the player pans out, misterearl continues his schtick, if he doesn't misterearl pretends like he's never heard of him.

NBA Comparison: Joey Graham

Chandler has impressive physical tools, with a great combination of strength and athleticism ... He can leap out of the building and create some highlight reel dunks ... He's a very smooth athlete with a knack for finishing ... Chandler has displayed an improving jump shot and his ball handling skills are slowly developing. As primarily a power forward on DePaul, he has developed some post moves and become a very strong rebounder ... His rebounding ability will set him apart from many small forwards a la Shawn Marion ... He is also a solid shot blocker who seems to be at his best defensively in the paint ...

Weaknesses: Chandler is listed height of 6-8 is very questionable, as he appears closer to 6-6 or 6-7. His intensity at times seems questionable, as he doesn't really seem to have the hustle attitude. Like most tweeners, he is not ready to play on the perimeter full time and lacks the quickness to defend top caliber wing players. His jump shot is still in the works, though it has improved, he has not shown the type of range necessary for an NBA small forward ... His shot selection seems very questionable at times, as he is too willing to jack up contested jump shots.
