It would be nice to know who else is available so that we're not putting all our eggs in one basket with Lebron. I can't find lists for future FAs.

Edit: I looked up a bunch of players. Here's the list I just came up with
2010/11
Lebron
D Wade
Chris Bosh
Dirk
Josh Howard
Danny Granger
Bynum
Chris Paul
Amare Stoudemire
Manu Ginobili
Carlos Boozer

2011/12
Yao
Carmelo
Kobe
Pau Gasol
Rudy Gay
RJ
David West
Brandon Roy
Tony Parker
Caron Butler

It looks like there are A LOT of outstanding options

yeah but most of them will be locked down before then. to be honest i would love chris paul to be our number 2 option but he will be signed to a long term deal before then. they won't let him go. but i think lebron, wade and bosh will definately walk along with carmelo. ming might test the market too considering if he is relatively healthy by then. everyone else will either stay ( dirk, stoudemire) or not franchise players to give money too by then ( Ginobili, rudy gay).

Yeah, some will definitely be locked up before then. Also, some players who are FAs whom none of us is even thinking about right now will emerge as stars. It's true that about half of those players are just very good players/borderline all-stars and aren't worth max contracts if you're being cap conscious. ALL of them are better, though, than anything we've gotten by starphucking and ignoring the cap (the Earl plan ) this decade.

Players whom I'd have no trouble giving a max contract to (in order)
2010/11
Lebron
Paul
Amare
Wade?
Dirk?
Bosh?
Boozer?

2011/12
Yao
Kobe
Carmelo?
Roy?
West?

Question mark indicates I'd have some hesitation about giving them max contracts. That's five definitely max-worthy players in those two seasons.

Do we really want any of those guys? Lebron is the real prize out of all of them. Some of the others are either injury prone, asshols, or just not really franchise talent.

Lebron or bust, lol.

Agreed. Theres only 3 mega talents in the world. Kobe, LBJ, and Paul.

Everyone else on the list is just good.

So other than Cleveland, I guess no other city has a shot at a championship because all the other teams in the league (that aint cleveland) are teams full of a**holes, and injury prone players. NBA needs to fold and focus strictly on Cleveland. Cleveland vs the Washington Generals for 82 games....that'll work

Seriously, when Paul's up for an extension or is an FA, I wonder if NO will offer him the max or if they'll say "he's no Lebron; he's not worth it!" Same question applies to the other players I listed without ? marks next to their names.

IMO Chris Paul is the MVP of this league this year. Politics wont allow him to win it this year (its Kobe's turn), but there is no question they will lock Paul up before he becomes a freeagent. If not, they mind aswell start packing now and get ready to take over as Seattles next franchise because they will fall from grace faster than you can say "Isiah Thomas better be here next year or I will hunt Donnie Walsh down myself."

They'll attempt to lock him up before he becomes an FA. The only question is whether he'll agree to it or wait it out to become an FA. I doubt he'll pass up all the immediate cash. He probably will sign an extension. The ball would be in his court.

I like the Knicks to be under the cap but not so much to get these players. Most great free agents usually resign with their team. I can't see Melo, LeBron, Wade and Nowitzki being on another team through free agency. Free agency is for players that are a teir lower than the superstar status. If you guys think about it Shaq was the last great free agent to switch teams. Other than that there really hasn't been a super star that has changed teams through free agency.

If LeBron is still carrying that crappy Cavs team in 2 years, he will leave.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I love these prospects!!! This is definately worth making the cap flexible for! We have a lot coming off the books in two to three years. Perfect timing.

LeBron is the #1 target and then a center and a few other defensive players. We are in good shape, as long as he doesn't start trading people around.
I'll never trust this' team again.

He won't leave. He will use the KNicks to get a better offer from the Knicks. His hometown team is the cavs and there is something to be said about winning for your hometown.

His hometown team is the Cavs but he loves playing at the Garden and he's a Yankees fan. If he's not winning anything in Cleveland, he will get out of there as soon as he can.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Would you rather keep what we already have? Some of those pieces are a lot nicer than the pieces we have now, especially if we get LeBron.

Now I'm only speaking on condition we don't get Rose and if we do, and he becomes a huge star in two years. Then we'll have to reconsider LeBron and just pick up some pretty good pieces to go with Rose.
I'll never trust this' team again.

yeah, it's not like when jordan was playing, when there wasn't any real talent in the league. By the time he started playing, the old championship teams of Boston and L.A. Lakers where a bunch of old guys already, so they don't really count.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Kobe will be 33 in 2011. A max contract will take him to 38.

If Rudy Gay continues to develop, he's worth considering for a max deal in 2011, but Memphis will try to lock him up.

Kobe's out of my scope. I no longer believe he will ever be a Knick, especially after what happened the last time. Besides, we should be done getting old broken down stars by now.
I'll never trust this' team again.
