When the hell are the Knicks gonna do something worthwhile this offseason??

Now we have pool-putt half-ass teams like the nets getting billing and headlines over us. This has to be some $hyt outta the friggin' Twilight Zone or something... Maybe it's all just one bad episode of Sliders... Who knows?

All I know is that this all sucks really, REALLY BAD. Look at all the teams that are supposed to suck... The nets, the cavs, the clippers, the nuggets... all making moves to make their teams better. Even teams that have been in or near contention like the spurs (who already just won the damn title), the pacers, the mavs, and yes, the goddamn LA fakers are trying their best not to lose any potency and at least stay in the running.

I am NOT trying to sit by and just nod my head while knowing that my Knicks can be doing something better than sitting around with their thumbs up their ***es. That kinda "patience" got us nothing but lottery trips and STILL no real roster changes (want proof? look at our salary cap!!). I swear that Scott LayDown is the worst thing to happen to the knicks in over a damn decade.

At this rate, it's gonna be ANOTHER 30 years before we get a title.

We as Knicks fans can prepare for that day by:

  • Quitting smoking

  • Eating healthy

  • Not holding our breath hoping that the backwards-*** upper management/owner****(oops! I mean ownership) of the New York Knickerbockers doesn't evacuate the premises of 2 Penn Plaza immediately, relinquishing control of the team to an entity that sincerely cares about WINNING (and knowing that winning actually is the best way for a team to make money!). I would like to see them FIRE LAYDOWN at the very least if he can't work some magic and perform some miraculous moves by training camp.

Maybe we can all still be alive by the time the Knicks win a championship. I just hope it takes closer to 3 years than 30.

What seems to be the 3 most important things the Knicks can do to get back in the serious running for a title again?

In my opinion, the NYK should:

  • Trade as many of our inflated contracts as we can (Spoon, Eisley, etc.) and get players who can handle the ball and who have decent height (6'8"+), or sign a couple in the free-agent market.

  • Jettison all extra baggage (players that are or aren't here) like Travis Knight and the rights to that kid Vujanic (Postell and Nailon are FA's so that's done already). We don't need anyone taking up any kind of space who is either not worth the money or is too scared to come here NOW and make the impact they are being hyped up in the media and forums as being able to make.

  • Lastly, we need to start really analyzing exactly what players the NYK can realistically get via trade or FA signing that can make an impact now. Some of the FA's I have heard mentioned that have already been signed (like P.J. Brown and Mourning) have been taken already- but I had issues with us getting guys like those two anyway. Personally, I believe that Rasho is overrated and would care less if he goes to SA or Dallas- whatever. Who do you think the Knicks can (realistically) get who would make both an immediate and lasting positive impact on our current situation?

I am very curious to hear suggestions/feedback on this...

It's time that the Knicks Forum start focusing on the KNICKS again.

Hey there Hardcore..
It is quite tough being a Knicks fan these days...
UNfortunately there are 3 MAIN reasons why we are in this jam we are in.
1. We traded Ewing instead of letting his contract expire
2. That collective bargaining agreement that was the result of the players' union negotiations with owners and voiced adamantly by Patrick Ewing. That agreement has indirectly (coupled with bad management) created a vacuum of bad talent in what is the NBA's biggest Market...
3. Houston's ridiculous contract that baloons every season and will eat up a nice chunk of our cap restricting our Free Agent flexibility for many off seasons to come.

With teams as stacked as they are... it is becoming evident that you need at least 2 stars to win a championship.. or just one really amazing one.. so we are definitly not doing that for at the very least 3 seasons.. and that's if Management does all the right moves before then...

So is there a light at the end of the tunnel? I think so..
But like you said.. we must first try to get rid of these overpaid benchwarmers... Unfortunately for us.. everyone knows that's what they are.. so trades are kinda tough to find for our bunch.. (except Spree, Thomas, and our picks)

As much as I love Spree... By the time we are competitive with top teams again he will be well past his prime.. so his best utility for us I think is to be packaged in with some of our bad contracts for some picks, cash and expiring contracts.. the same goes for kurt.

I think trading rights to Milos would be a very stupid thing to do.. If you look at his stats.. the kid is an All Star in Europe.. And at the very least he will be a good point guard in this league with potential for more.. Anything we could get for his rights would just be fillers and garbage... Any move that sends his rights somewhere else is a bad move.

Now... my last point... Once we are in a situation where we can pick up ACTUAL Star caliber free agents (FAs that are worth more than the exception) we will be a season or two away from a championship .. if and only if... we are managed correctly.. I like the prospect of picking up Lebron... I really doubt he will resign with the Cavs... the kid likes the attention.. the hype.. the media.. the money.. the star glitter... He will want to move on to a big name market... We are in that category.. if we could somehow make the cap room for the year he becomes a free agent.. we have a nice chance of getting him I believe. This is the mentality we must have from now on.. we cannot think of next season.. cause no matter how much money we spend or how much we pray there is no way in hell we are beating any of the top teams. we must start making moves for the following season after that...

two things that I think should happen:
We should not pick up any Free Agents to add to our cap problem and stifle us in mediocraty longer than need be.
We should not trade away McDyess.. and just let his contract expire.. trading him to a team that wants cap room would be a dumb move... Anyways.. these are my thoughts...

Agreed and Agreed.

Still, I know LeBron is the man and all...but when is TMac a free agent? I'd love the idea of pulling him away from Orlando...Like LA did with Shaq.

Yeah nyvector16, I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying. Very eloquently put, I must say.

I think that we can make things turn around if we free up cap space, but we need to be starting to put things in place now, so if and when we can get a Lebron (or a T-Mac like knixphan mentioned) it'll be the last or next to last piece we need to make a no-nonsense run for a Title.

I guess we're gonna agree to disagree on the Milos topic. I just don't see how some cat who's too shook to play for the Knicks gonna have (or grow) the balls to help us in the backcourt.

Let's see what happens by the time training camp gets here...
Maybe we'll be in for a surprise that no one expected.

Thanks for the positive words Hardcore..
I could see why some Knicks fans would be frustrated with Milos...
I am too in a way.. but after thinking about his position for a bit I can't blame him for not wanting to come here.. The kid is a star in Europe.. and the MAN in his team... Why would he leave that situation to come to a team that has way too many Point Guards and is notorious for benching their rookies. If we make Frank Williams the Starter, Buy out ward, and make Eisley a second string, at the same time leak reports about us wanting to trade him.. I bet his agent would get on the ball and get things in gear to get him over ASAP... if we don't trade for a pg and don't resign Ward.. I could see him joining us after next season... I would guarantee him the starter job if it meant him getting here for this upcoming season.

OK, so what you're saying is that Milos could still be here for training camp if NYK makes the right moves in the 1 position... It makes sense, but who's to say that he'd even come then? I read an interview with his manager that stated that Milos plans to come in "1 or 2 years"... That cat has to get with it or forget it. I wouldn't blame Laydown for trading him now because he has to make changes that can help us now. We have already waited a year and the dude should have both his act together and his mind made up by now.

I am sure that if Milos committed to coming to the Knicks like he should, even an azz-backwards GM like Scott LayDown would make the necessary moves to get him in here ASAP...

vector you saying what i have been saying for weeks on this site.

the problem is a rational fan should see all the points you made, especially going after lebron,

unless your name is charles Dolan or scott layden.

you need Superstars in this league, nothing is worth even talking about ill we get at least one. currently we have none.

That don't stop none of ya'll from watching the knicks games , buying knick hats+ shirts gear. If ya was really thinking and you're a "DIEHARD" knicks fan you would buy it cheap now so when we come back to Dominating the East you could have Fresh Knicks Gear without having them make u over pay for them. I'm racking up on gear now.

I agree with you completely Ares..
In order to aquire a superstar or two we must have cap space...
Priorities hsould be sas follows in decending order:
1. STOP Acquiring players we don't need unless it's a sweet deal or trade
2. Let our expiring contracts run out and not trade them for mediocre players with long lasting contracts.
3. Try to trade away Eisley, Anderson, and the rest of the junk with packages that could include, Spree, Thomas, but NOT PICKS current or FUTURE!
4. Try to weeezle a sign and trade deal for a superstar packaging a rookie or rights to Milos... only scenario where losing a pick or young blood is acceptable.. (unless someone is willing to take anderson, eisley, spoon, and rights to Milos for an expiring contract...)

The common theme here is to DUMP salary and hope to get lucky with a sign and trade... That on top of developing our rookies by letting them play.. should make us a contender in about 3 seasons...
Anyone who thinks we can achieve contention ealier is smoking some serious Dubage!

I am still amazed how knicks fans still think teams in the NBA want to help them get better? We have boasted and bragged in the NBA FOR 15YRS STRAIGHT and other teams havn't forgot that.Nobody wants to trade with us unless we bend ova for the soap and get raped. All these fantasy trades aren't benefiting the other teams, we are gonna have to ride this one out fellas and hope sweetney williams houston KT sprewell(if not let go for poop) to bring it and wait on Dice to bring up the rear in the weak but athletic eastern conference.

Now I really believe that a sweet deal can happen and we should be able to rid our cap of at least 2 bloated contracts. Thing is, who do you see us realistically going for that would take 2 players (+the rights to Milos if need be) off our cap. I am thinking that we need a point-forward type player...

I heard that the Antione Walker deal is still getting kicked around but I could see us with Lamar Odom in the lineup too.

The players I think we should try the hardest to move are Eisley, Spoon, and Knight. Anderson can be thrown in to make a deal work, so can Ward if a team really wants him instead of Eisley.

Although I sincerely hope that Dice is able to contribute this year, I can't hold my breath. I remember last summer, just when I was starting to believe that Scott LayDown didn't make another idiotic mistake, I watched Dice fall down... I was in the Garden watching that damn preseason game when it happened...

Yet in still, I keep my head up and pray that something goes right for my Knicks...

I agree that changes need ot be made, but I don't think trading the Knicks best big man - Travis Knight - is the answer. Travis Knight is a hard worker. He tries to stay ready as he sits on the bench every night. When the call come, he will be ready.

OK TK, would you be happy if Knight goes back to the Lakers? He is probably the missing piece they need to win that title! Shaq, Kobe, Payton and Malone need him to be there!

Travis Knight would like to contribute where ever he goes. He just wants a chance to play and show what he can do. I'm sorry if some people don't like me talking about Travis. I guess it's okay to talk about Sprewell or some guy from europe who hasn't even played a real NBA game, but not Travis.

This is a Knicks fans board, you should be able to talk about any member of the Knicks organization and last time I checked Travis Knight was an active member. Just be ready to hear some bashing.

I really do wish that I could say more positive things about ya boy Travis Knight... But he has been on the floor countless times when opposing teams glide to the hole like he's not even there. We really need an impact player at that position, and Knight just will never, ever be that.

Plus now we have Lampe (7'0") and Vranes (7'6") getting less money than Knight (and at least one-Lampe- has much more potential upside) as well as Doleac.

If he doesn't get traded this season, just enjoy watching ya boy ride the pine for the last year of his contract.
