Isiah messed up big time. I like Ro's tenacity but he missed out on Josh Boone, Rajan Rondo, Marcus Williams and even Kyle Lowry. Balkman may very well be out of the league soon if he can't get a jumper. At best he is a 6th man but he appears to be a young vet who will not last because of the tragic flaw of not having a jumpshot.

not sure what you're drawing from here since none of those guys have accomplished jack in the NBA either up to this point (other than Rondo if u consider playing alongside guys like KG, Allen & Pierce & allowing them to carry the load on offense to be some measure of sustained success)

Balkman's getting 14 mpg while guys like Boone, Lowry & Rondo are getting a lot more... he's only in his 2nd year, i think it's way premature to say Isiah messed up big time w/the pick... i've seen the guy put up some pretty impressive statlines when given extended burn during games just like the rest of those guys you're comparing him with.

I agree and it looks like everyone was right to laugh at Isiah when he chose Balkman. There was a reason why he was projected to go like 50th in the draft, it's because he's mediocre. I would take all 4 of those guys you mentioned in a heartbeat over Balkman. If you're a wing player and you have no offensive game, then you better be a lock down defensive player. Balkman is far far far from that. Terrible pick.

missed the boat bigtime on Rajon just like Granger or Bynum the year prior.

sad there is not 1 team in the league Balkman would start on

Isiah's D'Antoni was going to take Balkman, a wing player who couldn't/can't shoot, was the biggest insult

Isiah as much said at one point they weren't prepared for Marcus to drop to them- and they were locked in on Balkman - which is odd because they could have grabbed him there when they picked collins.

Balkman is a good player and he will probably be in the league a while- much like JYD was- he brings energy, he makes an impact on the game when he is on the floor and he does the little things you need to win.

His problem is he plays for a crap team.

He wouldn't start on a team like Phoenix, but he'd probably get good minutes and contribute, and look good doing it.

the point isn't whether he has a role but what more pertinent team needs was missed out on in taking him 20.

for starters:

a definite starting, playmaking, rebounding, good on ball defending point guard in Rondo

and

some1 to help protect the rim in Boone

I think Balkman can be a nice piece to our roster, my biggest problem was reaching him so early! He was there to be had with Mardy's PICK!!! We could have him along with Williams.

That was a pretty indicting statement by Isiah which revealed even then that he has no clue what he is doing. You think Rod Thorn anticipated Marcus Williams dropping that low? As a GM you have to have all bases covered and you also have to be open minded enough to make moves on the fly.

Isiah has killed himself three times by locking himself into players early and stubbornly not giving other prospects an opportunity. He locked into Frye early, Balkman and Chandler. The jury is still out on Chandler, but why would you box yourself in and commit to these players in May before thouroughly evaluating all prospects?

BTW, why take Chandler, a SF when you just took Balk the year before?

I think that is fair TMS--Balkman has played well when he has received his chance. He cant hit the side of the backboard on a jumpshot but that is not his game. He is a defender rebounder shotblocker energy guy who does impact the game at times. Thats why I am annoyed and ABSOLUTELY do not understand why Balkman doesnt play 35 minutes down the stretches last 10? I mean does it nOT make sense to anyone here?

Balkman
Collins
Chandler
Morris
Jefferies
should all get 24-30 minutes
AND they should bring in a top D league prospect for a look

that is what you do in ANY sport once you are way out of it. Playing the guys nearly the whole game boggled my small mind.

draft day theory:

so he can package 1 in a trade for KG and still have the other.

too bad

Al >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Frye or Lee
Gomes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Balkman
Theo's expiring >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Francis expiring
no .1 picks to trade >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> no no.1 picks to trade
Telfair and Green vs Nate irrelevant

the reality:

in case KG to NY didn't happen, he knew he blundered in the 06 draft since Balkman is mostly good for short bursts, Q is unreliable cause of his back, and he would need a guy who can play 30 mpg at the sf

Marcus Williams again?! The guy is averaging 6.0 points and 2.7 assists, shooting 38.6% from the field. HALF of his shots are 3 pointers and his assist to turnover ratio is worse than Crawford's (which, needless to say, is already very poor to begin with).

Meanwhile, Rod Thorn, a great executive, trades for Devin Harris which will effectively make Marcus Williams a backup for his career with the Nets. The numbers don't bear it out, and Thorn's actions don't bear it out. I don't know what we're missing.

Yea I am almost inclined to agree. As much as I like balkman, he can't beat anyone off the dribble and when he does, he has a tough time finishing in traffic.. His jumper is horrible, really, it makes mardy collins look like ray allen..... I just don't see how he can be on the floor for more than 10 mpg if he can't make layups, hit any sort of jumper or make FT's.... He is really going to have to transform his game this summer or he could be out of the league at the end of his contract.. I hate to say this, but really, I rather have jared jeffries on the floor over balkman.....

Agreed. Plus all of these guys where drafted later anyway, so not gonna find any real gems in the back, including Balk.
I'll never trust this' team again.

On the other hand, I agree that he should've at least went for a proven defensive player at the least.

Kind'a hard to prove that because we're not winning.

If we had it to do again, I think I would have picked someone else. The only real thing he brings to the Knicks is energy. But I'm also for giving the cat a chance to prove himself, because after all, it is' only his second year. I think he should cut the hair off though. Looks like it's weighing him down with some wind resistence.

I'm still blown away how we even ended up getting guys like Balkman, Collins, Chandler.

We had the second worst record in the NBA a few years back and we end up with pick #20.
Later year we where tied 9th in negative records and end up with the #23 pick.

And all we have to show for it is Eddie Curry. That right there is just one' major reason why isiah should be THROWN FROM THE BUILDING!!!!!!!!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Isiah also signed Jeffries in that off season for his defensive prowess and to play in the role that Balkman was to fill.
