jerel mcneal from marquette put on a show today. top-notch lead guard who plays EXCELLENT defense (nickname is mcsteal).
beasley got his 20/10 again today, though if he exerted his will it couldve been 35/20 for the W. drifted in the 2nd half. gotta assert himself more, but that could just be him wilting under the bright lights of the tourny surrounded by a young team.
does everyone agree w/ me about bill walker being a first-round pick? maybe not this year, but if he stays another year he's gotta go top-20. dude can CLIMB THE LADDER and plays tough D.
his hometown teammate OJ i think asserted his top-5 pick by getting SC to the tourny and playing as well as he did throughout the year. that being said, if he went back to school i think he could go #1 overall next year, maybe that's something he wants to do? he says he's going back.
hadn't seen a lot of lopez but was impressed with his competitiveness and low post skills, he was posting and toasting today. the game-winner was impressive as well.
brandon rush, another BIG NAME high school guy like bill walker who had injuries and has put his time in at kansas, i think he could go in the top-20 if he continues to play as well as he has and leads kansas to more wins.
fun game w/ pitt and michigan state today, neitzel and fields are both gritty college guards. not sure how they translate to the nba, remind me a little too much of mateen cleaves or brandin knight, but good game nonetheless.
i think UCLA has at least 3 first rounders in russel westbrook, darren collinson, and kevin love. love had an incredible game, double-double with 7 blocks! really controlled the paint and the tempo, and when he flashes the buttery touch from the outside and throws outlet passes for easy layups, you wonder how good he can be -- on a good team. he could fit in great on a team like milwaukee, who has good guards and a bigger guy to play C in bogut and gadzuric. he's a natural 4 but definitely a game changer. westbrook has great athleticism and reminds me of kyle lowry, and collinson absolutely dominated the game and could be going to his 3rd final four!??! very impressive point, this will be a great draft for point guards if the knicks want to go that direction -- derrick rose, jerryd bayless, OJ mayo, dj augustin, and collinson will all be starting points IMO. josh shipp is another guy on UCLA to watch out for, good 2/3 in the mold of afflalo or maybe shane battier? i wasn't impressed with deandre jordan, i think he'll have to go back to school.
gerald henderson on duke is another guy who reminds me a lot of richard jefferson. i thought he was hands down their best player, attacks the hoop relentlessly, plays really hard D and can hit shots, he is a VERY complete player and super athlete. after another year i think he will be a lottery pick.
eric gordon did not impress me at all but i could still see him leaving indiana b/c of the entire coaching thing. he's an undersized 2 who likes to J too much, just not as dominant as he should have been.
tomorrow i'm excited to see augustin on texas, tyler smith on tennessee (IMO their best player, lofton has regressed in the past few yrs), courtney lee on western kentucky is a senior who could go in the first round, obviously the memphis/miss st. (rose and CDR) and the gtown/davidson game (on davidson, stephen curry is legit. dropped 40 in the first round, played a TOUGH out of conf schedule this yr, if he punches out GTown i think he's a surefire first rounder, reminds me a LOT of kevin martin w/ more college success), blake griffin on oklahoma is on nbadraft.net as the 1st pick of 2009 draft but i havent seen much from him, he'll be going against scott padget on louisville, a 5th yr SR i think who should be a late first round pick (think steve novak w/ better passing?), and UNC has 4 first rounders (hansbrough, lawson, ellington, danny green).
