they've put a nice team together- and notice how much better they are playing without jeff van gundy!

Adelman would have been a great coach for this squad if Dolan had been smart and terminated isiah last year. I bet if that had been the case- we'd be in contention for the 8th slot without Isiah and Zach.

I wouldnt kill Van Gundy because he left that foundation for defense. Van Gundy's problem is he is to controling over the whole game--you have to score points too:) there has to be some free flow on offense. If it's stagnate--usually that leads to too many break opportuniies. But the foundation of defense is why these teams are winning games. If your team is based on scoring 110 points to win--that's awfully hard to maintain. If the Suns couldnt do it--certainly there has to be a balance.

scola was an absolute steal for them.

they gave up a lot to get battier, but he turned out to be worth it, too.

and the funny thing is- those guys don't put up big stats.

Actually- in looking at their stats- how do they win? You've got Yao & McGrady averaging 22 pts & then alston at 12 and then no one above 10?!

Anytime you are over your head as a headcoach, you tend to eliminate certain areas in team strategy that your team needs to improve in.

Jeff is a glorified assistant head coach, NYC press(media) can give you that kind of hyped credentials.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Battier provides defense and leadership.

T-Mac is healthy.

Bobby Jax is very steady.

Scola is a very very good player.

They are quicker without Yao.

Defense and chemistry.

JVG did not have some of the above so its unfair to just bash him.

The right coach with the Right team, with the right leadership all comes together without big stats.

Adelman has done a great job. JVG did ok with what he had. Its not like JVG left at the allstar break and Rick came in with the same roster verbatum.

I will say that JVG era might be past as the league has changed a bit in the last 5 years.

It's all subjective keep in mind JVG got the Rockets to win 51gms in 2004-2005 T-Mac and Yao were healthy(first season together) and in 2006-2007 they won 52gms(Yao missed 34gms)(T-Mac missed 11gms). I think JVG is the type of coach that can do more with less and Adelman may be a coach who can do a little more with more. Obviously Adelman has the most talented roster the Rockets have had the past 3-4yrs and a roster who knows each other better than they've ever had over this span of time.

Larry Brown, Popovitch, and Riley all have done pretty well the last few years playing the type of ball JVG preached. Very hands on coaches who used the low post pretty effective with the right personel.

JVG had back court problems and injury probems most of his tenure.

Can Adelman be successful without bashing JVG? One did a good job, they other is currently the hottest team in the NBA, but perhaps 5-9th if you pick best teams to win it all! 5th at best behind Lakes, Pistons, Boston and SA to win it all.

Though its impressive that Houston has won 20 straight games I'm waiting to see if they actually do anything in the playoffs this year. Also how much gas in the tank does Houston have left?

They need to get Carl Landry back. He's their secret weapon.

Just look at the nineties Knicks? For that matter, did anyone ever average 20ppg beside Ewing? I don't think so...

yeah, they're ranked second in the NBA in points allowed per 100 possessions. my suspicion is their defense has only improved without Yao. I don't think they can keep this up for too long without Yao's offense - McGrady and Alston are too streaky - they both started last night horribly 1-10 and 4-15. without Yao's easy offense, they'll probably struggle eventually, but they are a tough defensive team with battier, scola, hayes and the rest playing damn good bball. JVG built a lot of what they have, but they seem to have a much better attitude with Adelman. too bad they lost Yao for the year, the West would be even more interesting come playoff time.

I wanted Aldleman in here as a coach but noone else said they wanted him. I always thought highly of his coaching abilities. People have forgotten that he took the blazers to two finals. He probably would have taken the Kings too if wasn't for the Horry shot.

looks like 21. tmac is playing like an mvp. this team is looking like the iverson/sixers 2001 squad.
