I was just wondering, because many of us view nate as a backup combo guard. After watching nate this year and after tonights game, I wonder if nate is really a backup. Looking at the game tonight and nates talent,he is a very good shooter, ball handler and there is just no one that can stay in front of him. He is playing more poised and at 5'9(listed height of course) he is a bonafide scorer in this league, I mean average backup guards don't get a start and then explode for 45 points on a pretty good set of guards in roy, and jack... Poor steve blake got undressed by nate tonight.... I know most of us are high as hell on rose , but would you guys want to see a rose/nate backcourt, or do you want a rose/ crawford with nate off the bench.. if this happens, it will be an interesting problem, but after tonights performance, it will be hard to continue labeling nate as a backup...

i feel like earl boykins might've done it once or twice for denver. nate is good. he'd need a real commitment to defense to be a dependable starter though.

boykins career high was 36..

Tony delk 53

willie burton I think 50.

but in all fairness, burton and delk were journeyman, and delk for a short period as a rotation player.... Neither guy has the explosiveness or even overall skill that nate does...

just wondering what some think. I know it is one game, but you can see games like this in nate.. His skill level is undeniable..

Nate has some obvious limitations and I really don't like his attitude.

That said, the kid can ball. He keeps improving too.

I can't stand how fans either give him too much credit or not enough. The vocal posters that disliked him his rookie season feel like they have to chop his legs out over and over and over again. Similarly, one game does not mean Nate has turned the corner and plays consistent defense, stop fighting teammates (in the shower or bench), or instigating brawls.

I like Nate but he needs to learn how to defend the damn pick and roll but then again so do the rest of our guards. Nate can be a good player and a starter in this league but in order to do that he's got to become a better defender and a floor leader(showing some improvement in this area).

By the way whats up with Nate throwing up gang signs at the camera towards the end of the 4th tonight?

Sure, Nate can start, but if he is starting what are the realistic expectations for that team? I dont think that team will necessarily be a legit championship contender. A team that nate starts on will probably peak at an 8th seed but will most likely be lotto bound year in and year out.

With Nate starting, you really have to have a creative GM who can build team that can compliment his talants and hide his flaws. One thing that always bothered me about Nate is that he doesn't use his size (or lack there of) and quickness to be the pest on defense that he can be. Similar to Mugsy, Nate doesn't defend full court nor put any pressure on the opposing pg's.

To be successful starting Nate, you need to pair him with a big guard (one that is a willing passer and can handle the ball and can guard the 2's a la Shaun Livingston etc.) You definitely need a defensive stud in the paint as well.

I'll never trust this' team again.

I'd like to see us take Crawford out of the equation, whether or not nate starts or is a backup who plays significant minutes. However, with the type of intensity nate tends to play with, I think it is better for him to start, and get a little rest in the middle of the half.

I think his better decision making can be something we utilize more when Rose goes to the bench.

People need to cool it with just putting a "backup" label on him. I don't think we've seen what he's full capable of yet. He's still improving his game. NOw he may not get past a certain level of usefulness, but I don't see the reason to peg him yet. He's probably been the best guard on our team this year.

i disagree... Jamal is our best go to guy when this team needs points if u ask me... he's got the best handle & the best ability to create his own shot... Nate is a better shooter but his height limits him at times going up against bigger defenders... the other night he had it going & no one was gonna stop him, but that won't happen on most nights if u ask me... Jamal is enjoying his best season as a pro right now scoring wise... i don't think u can just phase him out w/o seeing Nate be able to carry the load for a longer stretch of games.

agreed 100% & that's been pretty much what i've been saying about that idea also... if u wanna start Nate u have to get a big G who can defend the perimeter & either develop Chandler & Balk at the 3 spot into good defenders, or go after a guy like Artest via trade using Jamal or Curry & say Balkman as bait.

Developing Balk or Chandler into good defenders begs the question that if it's that easy, then why couldn't that already been done? Also, getting rid of Curry is going to be a very, very hard thing to do. His stock is so far down, a high schooler can probably beat him. Already too many questions.
I'll never trust this' team again.

i'm not saying it's easy... but what are our other options right now? unless we're trading for Artest i don't see an AK47, Josh Smith, Shawn Marion or Josh Howard coming to us, do you?

I think Nate will have a very nice career in the NBA as a 3rd guard type, 6th man off the bench. He has the rare ability to be able to come into a game change the pace INSTANTLY with his energy. Nate has been playing well this year, at the same time, I have no interest in him being my starting PG, I think he's perfect for that off the bench role.

I like Nate off the bench. Great weapon as part of the ROTATION.

Nate is a very very good player. I really never understood why people wanted him gone before this season. It's like he doesn't fit your Pleasantville basketball dream and alot of people wanted to just throw him out.
