Post reports Knicks have eyes on Claxton, Walker, Nesterovick and trading/releasing Ward. Good or Bad ideas ?

Are they basing the Claxton decision on the Finals? If so, beware. Knicks got Chris Child because of 1 good season with Nets. Any thoughts, especially on Walker? Some feel he's soft.
I would love to be the cheese in a Beyonce/Ashanti sandwich.

Good point (no pun intended) on being wary of one year sensation... and in Claxton's case, it's one good playoff stretch. That being said, he's just the kind of guy I think we need. Quicker than lightning with skills... I'd roll the dice (definitely no pun intended) on Speedy. Besides, he's a Hofstra boy who would wear the uniform with pride. Something VERY important in my book, when you look at players apparently going though the motions (a la Robbie Alomar). Nestorovic also loves N.Y... of course, time will tell if Layden can pull it off. Obviously easier said than done but, it was an encouraging article, nonetheless.

I'd have to give Speedy a thumbs down unless his contract was small and short. He has been injury prone, and thats not a good thing for a guy who relies on his athletecism. His is also not a good outside shooter. He does bring the quickness that the knicks lack, but I think he is still unproven over a full season.

It seems like we would just be adding another backup caliber point guard.

Who are you planning to play the point this year? Jason Kidd? Gilbert Arenas? Obvious not so I ask you Andrew.. who'd you rather have Claxton and Eisley or Eisley and Ward? Claxton would be a sign and trade leaving the 4.9 for Nestorovic and Lampe buyout.

I'd probably take Claxton and Eisley over Ward and Eisley if I had the choice. But thinking about the long term I'd rather play Williams and Eisley, even if Williams isn't quite ready yet. Claxton could be a sign and trade....you really don't know that for sure.

Let me ask you what kind of contract would you give Claxton? How much per year and for how long? Do you consider Claxton more than a backup?

i think the knicks should go with what they have and not take on any more contracts. layden i know you hear me! i just don't see the knicks getting that much of a player from a talent standpoint that the players that they will have to give up to get the player they want.

i would like to see them get antonio daniels if anyone with the mid level exempt

we don't need any more points. let frank develop, unless he's junk. we were solid at pg last year. SG is solid with Houston. SF is where spree get's overmatched, but there really aren't any SF's that i'd rather have on my team than Spree, unless we're gettting KG/Dirk (let's see how lampe develops)!

PF - let's throw Sweetney into the fire... and see how he performs.

Center - we really need to draft to get this position set... we might get Vranes or Lampe to perform.

Frank has not proven he can even bring the ball up the court.

The only pg I would want out there are Payton and Miller. Payton doesnt want to come to NY and until we dump some salary I dont want to spend alot of money on a pg when we still need a center and a forwardI want to believe in Speedy but I dont know if I can yet. But I would take Speedy before I take Travis"Greg Anthony Jr) Best (too erratic), Kenny Anderson(past prime) or Darrell Armstrong (too old)

Great post case. Claxton is alright but he cant run a team. He's no better or worse than Ward or Eisley, except Ward defends better and Eisley plays better offense. Claxton is only going to get floundered or injured. Frank Williams has talent but needs the confidence that comes with playing time and for that we have to look to Chaney. Besides I dont see the Spurs giving him up without getting something better in return.

For those that actually watched last year, albeit a painfull task, the Knicks problems werent caused by the point position. It was defense and inside presence that let the knicks down. Being one of the shortest teams in the league we needed to get bigger, which with any luck will develop from the players we drafted. Any moves we make now should be to get better at center period. I would also add that this should be without the cost of one of our main players.

Claxton would be ideal if we could pick him up in FA. At times he out-played Kidd and Parker. The Spurs were very good when he was on the floor. Childs was a violatile personality... Speedy sounds stable and won't command lots of cash.

claxtons speed is ideal. I really think he is getting it together after the knee injury. he would be a nice pickup for cheap..

I like Speedy instead of Ward. I also Like the idea of Nestero as a C, but Doleac has to go then,

7/16 is when the signings can happen. Until then it is all heresay.

Go Knicks!

I like the idea of signing Nesterovic. I think he is the 2nd best center available this summer behind Brad Miller. Mourning: I don't think will be the same player after the kidney illness. Kandi: I think he has that Shawn Kemp feel about him. (see: will stop working out & trying to improve his game once he gets a huge payday.)

I think Lampe should be groomed to be a SF anyway. Big men are always at a premium in this league anyways. Nesterovic's game is always said to be improving, which means he hasn't reached his ceiling yet. Getting him for the MLE would be a great move for Layden.

I agree. If Nesterovic averaged 11 points out West, I think he could raise that in the East, especially if we have a decent PF. Lampe is going to be Spree's replacemebt at Sf in a year or too. If we get a good center and PF/PG I think we can keep Spree.

Walker = Bad

Claxton = Neutral considering our PG situation

Nesto = Good

I like nesto also. He is a good shot blocker I remember that 10 block game he had last year. We could use that because teams knew the knicks had no interior defender and they drove the lane on us with reckless abandon.... When scrubs like Aaron williams was anxious to post up the knicks players you know something is wrong...
