BOSTON - Zach Randolph feels that Isiah Thomas should delve into the trade market to shake up the Knicks' roster because "what we're doing now ain't working.
"We need to do something," Randolph said following Boston's 111-103 victory over the Knicks on Wednesday night.
When asked if he expects to still be with the team following next week's trading deadline, Randolph said: "I don't know. There has been a lot of talk. I don't know what is going to happen."
Thomas sounds as if he's given up on the Randolph-Eddy Curry experiment. Although the pair still start, they rarely play together during the course of the game. Last night, Curry played eight minutes in the first half and lasted two minutes into the third quarter before being benched.
"What's happening in this league is that a lot of teams are playing really small," said Thomas, momentarily forgetting that the Lakers acquired Pau Gasol and the Suns traded for Shaquille O'Neal last week. "It is slow phasing out of the big man is what is happening in this league, it seems like. A lot of teams are playing really small and shooting the three-ball, and if you don't adjust and adjust quickly you can find yourself down 12 to 15 points."
Thomas is looking to trade either Randolph or Curry, which is an indictment of his big offseason move. When Thomas traded for Randolph he vowed to turn the Knicks into a power team.
Last night, Curry had a telling remark when he was asked about his role.
"I always feel like I have a role here until they move me," he said. "If they decide to do that, then I don't have a role here. Until then, I'm here for a reason and we'll see what happens."
Should we list the Top teams in this league and how big their front lines are and minutes they play? Even if he's right, which he's not wasn't this the case prior to him making a trade for Randolph. Shouldn't he have traded for shooting in the summer? If he's right does this mean he's trading one or more of our Bigs for a small(s)? Does this mean Chandler gets off the bench since he can 'shoot the 3 ball?'
