This week's contribution comes from the files of Peter Vescey:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01252008/sports/no_defense_for_upsetting_suns_96539.htm?page=1

Miles would never have been re-signed by the Blazers had the owner not overruled the front office of Steve Patterson and John Nash on a deal (including Theo Ratliff) to the Knicks during Larry Brown's glory year. Isiah Thomas had signed off on Jalen Rose, David Lee and, yipes, a No. 1 pick.

I don't care, Isiah is the GM.. If larry wanted to trade lebron for Dalembert, Ferry would have told brown to kick rocks...... Please.. this was a dreadful trade idea, and If Isiah signed off on it, then he is a got damn idiot..

You're absolutely right. That is why I don't want to hear the "let LB shop for his own groceries" nonsense. That is what got us Francis and Jalen Rose.

If we did it LB's way, right now we'd be sitting on top of Eric Snow and Theo Ratliff.

What do you mean "If" Isiah signed off on it? Same goes for Dolan.

In all fairness, dolan has stated he knows nothing about basketball, he pays Isiah 6 mil a year to make competent decisions for him in this area. this would have been on Isiah's head!

Absolutely, when it comes to making trades, it's all on Isiah. Nobody else has the power to negotiate and execute trades, it's a simple concept but some people still have trouble with it.

Dolan however, is the only person who can sign off on Isiah's trades so he has to burden some of the blame even if most of it goes to Isiah.

That is true, and the owner doesn't have to be a basketball genius.. One of the partners of the Atlanta spirit group(they own the hawks) tried to take his share of the team and stop a trade in which the Hawks would acquire Joe Johnson. His reasoning was that, Joe was going to get a lot of money, and for that kind of money, he wanted a Kobe type player. He meant no disrespect to Joe Johnson, I just didn't think this guy understood the dynamics of NBA salaries and players value like he should, but I understood his concern. I think he was just being responsible. CAn you blame him? sometimes as an owner, all you have to do is use common sense, and if it doesn't sound right, question it!!!

Come on guys- first off- as I have said before- look at Parcells with Jumbo Elliot, Keyshawn Johnson, Testaverde etc - all coaches get their old broken down players - to institute a 'new' system. The only one thats been the exception is really Bill Bellicheck- he could careless where Ty Law, etc ended up.

I am sure that in his mind - a line up of Rose, Francis, Ratliffe, Crawford, Antonio Davis was where he wanted to start - with Curry, Marbury, M. Rose etc coming off the bench or soon to be traded for Ben Wallace etc. If he was around this year - I am sure he would trade Curry, Balkman, Lee, Jeffries, Wilson Chandler and cash for Ben Wallace. Giving us a line-up of Wallace, J. Rose, Ratliffe, Francis and Crawford - which would play defense for 3 years -cause the Knicks to over 300 million dollars in payroll and then he would quit -once he realized after 3-4 years thi team would never catch an improving orlando, a Cleveland with LeBron James, a Washington Wizards etc.

The point is - that when they initially brought in LB - it's the same ting that Knick fans have always wanted. Just make the playoffs -and give us hope. Never mind that the team doesn't ever have a real chance to be a 'true' championship team. Mortgage the future with Charles Smith, KVH, Shandon Anderson, Latrell Spreewell but lets not endure a few bad seasons and pick up a Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Paul Pierce through the draft.

Thank god - Dolan had the sense to fire him.

Wow. If Vescey said it, it must be true. No wonder it's being reported everywhere else.

True. After very bad job LB did in Philly and Detroit it was clear he is up to failure in the long run.
Dolan was very smart to fire him so we will not have this embarrassing experience to go dip into play-offs, play finals and win championship.
Very good job Mr. Isiah and Mr. Dolan

yeah- considering he didn't have Allen Iverson and Mutombo to bail him out in NY, now is he ever going to get a supremely talented offensive team with Rip/Rasheed/Chauncey combo again. He has always coached teams with talent - or atleast one superstar- David Robinson in San Antonio (didn't win anything), Danny Manning with the Clippers (didn't win anything), Smits/McKey/Detlef/Reggie Miller in Indiana -didn't win anything- yeah with a stupendous record like that - I wonder why every one thinks Phil Jackson is such a good coach- after all all Jackson did with superstar talent is WIN Championships.

But hey Arkud- your right - any coach that is in the League for 30 years and was Coach of the year once and won one Championship and went to the EC twice - he ha to be a genius. Byron Scott is nothing compared to Larry brown - after all if you don't complain about your players and over-dramatize your job for decades -so what if you have been to the same number of finals in under 30 years then LB - your obviously not a good coach.

How come LB is in Philly's front office ant they've yet to bring in Francis, Jalen, Miles, Ratliff, Snow, et al?

it don't add up.

And BTW, Isiah was hot for Miles long before LB arrived.
