It's why players like Marbury get no credit from me when he decided to come around after 2 1/2 months last. Fans were making ridiculous statements like "Marbury Had His Best Season As A Pro Last Yr". Uhhhh no he decided to be a good boy and got into shape after almost 1/3 of the season was gone. 2 things he supposed to do as a pro and what he gets paid to do.
Yeah, I hear ya. It's pathetic how many of our players aren't into game shape until half the season is already gone. That's all on Isiah for acquiring such useless passionateless boneheads and allowing them to do as they please. His "I've tried everything" crap from the other nights post game doesn't fly with me. Had he done his homework? He wouldn't be in this position.
Anyways....
I will say one thing in Marbury's defense though, and believe me it does not excuse his unprofessional attitude but I do believe it's why he's been so unprofessional especially as of late.
When he was first acquired it was done so that he could be the superstar gunner, with complete control of the offense, surrounded by willing role players, the franchise player. Know what? It worked! It wasn't pretty but it worked (25-21 record, playoff birth when we were already written off)
Isiah then for whatever reason abandoned what had a chance to work and instead of strengthening the supporting cast of hard working role players.... he did the opposite... and traded those guys for gunner after 'athletic' gunner. Who in turn fought Marbury for possessions.
*Oakley said it best in I think 05, "You have to get players who work with steph and not fight steph"*
The end was when we acquired Crawful and for whatever reason Isiah decided he loved Crawful and now Crawful was to be the #1 option and the #1 decision maker. When he did that Isiah did another inexplicable move: Demanded Marbury change his game (to resemble lets say Eric Snow).
I think that's when Marbury began his downfall. It took a long time to finally blow up but that's the point in time I'd pinpoint as Isiah's worst mistake which turned Marbury into the biggest malcontent he could possibly be.
Why would you tell your 46.5% gunner to stop gunning and focus on playing defense and playing off the ball and then give a 39% gunner the keys to chucking up anything he wanted to!? WHO THE HELL DOES THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear Isiah would have told Ewing to stop shooting and told Felton Spencer to take 18+ FGAs a game!!!! He is INSANE!!!!
Sad...and I could go on...but I think you know what I'm talking about.
Oh well, time to move on, BoneSpurBury turned SurgeryBury turned RecoverBury can turn into BuyOutBury and damn well should before Isiass trades his expiring for Miles and LaFrentz.
