The air was more breathable.
The fog on the basketball court started to lift.
While every subtle facet of a basketball game was overlooked, and painted over with the same despair and celebration of defeat... the way the Knicks played the game started to change. But no one (with few exceptions) cared to notice.
Win or lose, one cannot deny the dominoes have fallen unexpectedly since Marbury is no longer in the equation. Is that all?
First quarters are not so sluggish anymore. Jamal is playing the extended starter minutes he requires to be effective. Zach is not only depended upon as a focal point, but a walking double-double. Nate is simply being great.
But let's not talk about crazy things like sick put back dunks or winning on the road... even in Miami... let's continue to bury these New York guys and ignore any recent details of the game on the court. Anyone can always fall back and regurgitate something about:
Dolan's incompetence, Anucha's checkbook, Larry Brown's wisdom, Isiah's incompetence, trade checker or how much the Knicks suck (Mitch Lawrence) even when they win blah, blah....
Or, you can decide whether the following quote is sanitized Knicks-speak or an indication of a few guys surviving the madness and starting to believe in each other:
“This team is in the right direction,” said Nate Robinson, who along with Jamal Crawford led the fourth-quarter charge. “We’re playing together. Thank God that everybody is just doing it for each other, instead of themselves. That’s the key.”
Why not observe the game for a change and consider how the game of basketball is being played?
Why are Knicks turnovers down and assists suddenly up? Why did 4 guys hit a balanced double figures?
Then again, is it more important to eliminate dissent, brand lovers versus haters, toss another stone at someone's head, or have everyone in some lock-step negative NY opinion on an hourly basis, no matter how the tidbits of daily evidence change?
(Iyamwutiam, holla at yo' boy Spartacus)
Go Knicks.
