From nate chinen- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/arts/music/23chin.html?_r=1&ref=arts&oref=slogin
3. BILL MCHENRY: ‘ROSES’ (Sunnyside). Throughout his gorgeous and uncompromising new record the tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry threads his melodies as if through a fabric. He’s confident enough to let his band mates — the insinuative drummer Paul Motian, the venturesome bassist Reid Anderson and especially the ingenious guitarist Ben Monder — shape the songs as they desire.

and ben ratliff- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/arts/music/23ratliff.html?ref=music
4. BILL MCHENRY: ‘ROSES’ (Sunnyside). Jazz at its best is always both old-fashioned and modern, and the saxophonist Bill McHenry is a good example. He plays with unabashed enthusiasm for melody: no mazes of harmony or time signature here; the warm, sweet lines ripely tumble out, dictating the band’s rhythm as they go.

Both were in the Sunday Times yesterday- Anyway, I've gotten some good press before for my music but this takes the cake. Hopefully this will help pay back the album I broke the bank for. I guess it was a better move than the Jerome James signing (no offense Marv). It's hard to believe on one list I'm at 4 and Alicia Keys is at 9. Alicia- if you're reading this, call me for pointers- I'm listed- I think you're great... On another list I'm at 3 and MINGUS is at 4. I'd like to respectfully put Mingus at 2 ahead of me, and then maybe drop Radiohead to 4.

Well, I'm so jacked up by this I've decided to do the unthinkable- YOU WERE RIGHT, ISLESFAN. Ahh that feels better.
Not quite an apology but that's about as close as I get. I save my apologizing for the fairer sex.
THANKS UK- You guys rock, someday we'll be good- and I hope I see Eny, Marv, DJ, Bitty, Evil, VDesai, and the other guys I've met at the UK gatherings at a show sometime. That also goes for Martin, Andrew, Papa, any of you crazy BBall lovers. Let me know ahead of time and I'll get you in for free.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Dude, you totally ****ed up. Great art comes from intense pain, and you let that go. I know you were crying to sleep at night, anxiously awaiting to apologize to islesfan. In fact, this pain is why you made the NYT...

islesfan, do not accept this apology! We need more great art!

Ahem- That was NOT an apology- simply a recognition of a fellow Knick fans' correctness.
Fear not - I shall not live a pain free life. I root for the Knicks, Mets and Jets.
And please- I'm much too dehydrated to cry.
I'm pretty sure Isles doesn't read off topic stuff anyway.

Fair enough... that was just my way of saying congrats. The dehydrated line was one of the funnier ones I've read, because musician + dehydration = X, and X usually tastes great on the rocks.

Congrats buddy. That's awesome.

Not only did I read this but I plan on buying your CD to check it out for myself.

Oh and non-apology not accepted. As SC said, we need you to use that angst in your music. I'll pretty much take credit for anything at this point.

Sincerely though, congrats on the recognition, I'm sure it's very well deserved.

From one music man to another best wishes. In my career I've writen arranged and conducted and produced over 35 hits. 2 platium albums 7 gold albums. Got the billboard new group of the year back in the day and I'm still doing it. My field was not jazz even thought I love Jazz.
I will purchase your album and I trust that everyone on this forum will support you.

Congrats! Thats huge! I recently took a Jazz class in my school and now I have a better appreciation for Jazz music. 93Buick who inspired you to become a jazz musician and what type of Jazz Era you like the best? I am more of a cool jazz man (Dave Brubeck). Avante Garde sounds horrible to me.

nice job man, I'll definitely check out your album. when it comes to Jazz I only know the popular stuff like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, but I can always use some new jazz. I actually play guitar but I'm 100% self taught, which means I blow. also I only get to play in my spare time which isn't often. I'm in my 20's and I feel like I really missed out on an opportunity when I was younger to learn an instrument and develop musical skills at a young age, something i really regret now. OFFTOPIC

anyway I wish you continued success, good job

Major props. This is only the beginning of good things coming your way. Stay aggressive and the payoff will be an even bigger reward.
