From nate chinen- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/arts/music/23chin.html?_r=1&ref=arts&oref=slogin
3. BILL MCHENRY: ‘ROSES’ (Sunnyside). Throughout his gorgeous and uncompromising new record the tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry threads his melodies as if through a fabric. He’s confident enough to let his band mates — the insinuative drummer Paul Motian, the venturesome bassist Reid Anderson and especially the ingenious guitarist Ben Monder — shape the songs as they desire. and ben ratliff- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/23/arts/music/23ratliff.html?ref=music 4. BILL MCHENRY: ‘ROSES’ (Sunnyside). Jazz at its best is always both old-fashioned and modern, and the saxophonist Bill McHenry is a good example. He plays with unabashed enthusiasm for melody: no mazes of harmony or time signature here; the warm, sweet lines ripely tumble out, dictating the band’s rhythm as they go. Both were in the Sunday Times yesterday- Anyway, I've gotten some good press before for my music but this takes the cake. Hopefully this will help pay back the album I broke the bank for. I guess it was a better move than the Jerome James signing (no offense Marv). It's hard to believe on one list I'm at 4 and Alicia Keys is at 9. Alicia- if you're reading this, call me for pointers- I'm listed- I think you're great... On another list I'm at 3 and MINGUS is at 4. I'd like to respectfully put Mingus at 2 ahead of me, and then maybe drop Radiohead to 4. Well, I'm so jacked up by this I've decided to do the unthinkable- YOU WERE RIGHT, ISLESFAN. Ahh that feels better. Not quite an apology but that's about as close as I get. I save my apologizing for the fairer sex. THANKS UK- You guys rock, someday we'll be good- and I hope I see Eny, Marv, DJ, Bitty, Evil, VDesai, and the other guys I've met at the UK gatherings at a show sometime. That also goes for Martin, Andrew, Papa, any of you crazy BBall lovers. Let me know ahead of time and I'll get you in for free. MERRY CHRISTMAS If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.
