you couldn't see it but on the atlanta feed, tj just started crying while he was on the floor.

it was sick to watch.

he may have to consider retiring. this is nuts.

horford, though may not be intentional, should be suspended b/c he made a FULL SWING of his arm.

the word is that there was slight movement in his arms and legs as he was removed from the floor.

That was just very unfortunate. I really hope Ford is ok. It was extremely scary, especially knowing Ford's past history.

I didn't think Horford did anything intentional. I thought he was just attempting to block Ford's shot when Ford tried to go to the other side of the basket to use the rim as protection. I don't think he should be suspended, the full swing was just to block his shot.

Didn't even look that hard.

Damn, that really really sucks. I feel for a guy like Ford. He fought through a similar injury and came back to be a good point guard. If he has to retire, he simply has no luck. Hopefully he's ok. Health comes first.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Not to be a bitch but it seems like every TJ ford is suffers what appears to be some career ending injury. Is the guy that fragile or does he have ridiculously bad luck.

tj has had a history of spinal problems. he just had a stinger 2 weeks ago. this was clearly another blow to his spine. he really has to consider retirement b/c you can't mess with your back like this. this is crazy.

this isn't like breaking a leg, tearing an ACL, or vince spraining his vagina, this is a little different.

I don't think it affected his spine if anything he has a degree of concussion.

but he was conscious and absolutely balling on the floor. i was watching the atlanta feed, as soon as he rolled over he was crying uncontrollably and they were trying to calm him down.

if it was a conscussion, then ok, but if it had anything to do with his spine, he needs to retire.

Looks like a bad whiplash by Al hitting him then he hit the floor.

I feel for the kid. Really, I broke my neck playing ball in college and had a two year stint getting healthy. I was lucky, but I live with symptoms 25 years later.

If any damage was done it was when all hit his head back and to his neck. He might have a concussion which is what dazed him. What could happen is a chip of bone breaking inside his cervical spine (neck) which could be a problem if it floats. I had a chip but the inflamation pushed it back in and it calcified. It sucked and was scarey when I lost certain feeling in my arm and leg, but it came back and its been good since. I might need fusion some day as 2 of my discs are blown and it hurts, but im not a pro player. Crazy as it sounds, football players get fusion and play, as do baseball players. I did not get it as I did not have a 5mil a year contract to protect.

I think TJ has a stenosis which is a narrowing of the spine which cannot be cured but he had some corrective proceedure previously. My guess is this injury is unrelated but usually if you have a condition of narrowing it could be in his cervical spine also.

I hope the kid is ok as he is a hell of a player and a good kid.

I'd say Al did nothing wrong. TJ extended the layup and Al mistimed his block attempt which TJ attempted to get out of reach.

The Score just reported that TJ had feeling in his upper and lower body when he was stretchered off the court and will be staying overnight at Peidmont Hospital in Atlanta. They are putting him through rigorous test to figure out what, if anything, is seriously wrong.

They will do the obligitory MRI and keep his range of motion limited until he is known stable.

Like I said, Al's hit was the bad one to worry. Him hitting his head was not the bad one.

only because this is a Knicks board would i make this off the wall comparison but you know for a fact if that had been Lil big man Nate in volved in that play that there would be 10-15 posters stating that if he wasnt such a "hotdog" he wouldnt have gotten hurt...or better yet, if I siah wasnt "showcasing" him to get his trade value up that he never would've gotten hurt.

nate would've tried to bounce pass his own alley and it would've went off his foot into the stands so there would've been no foul.

That was a ****ty play, could have killed the dude, getting hit from behind is the worst kind of hit to get.

to be honest, if it was Nate that fell to the floor w/that hit i don't even think it's an issue... i bet Nate bounces back up & gets in the other guy's face & the usual chest bumping nonsense ensues... but because it's TJ Ford who may have a pre-existing medical condition that may make him more susceptible to a neck injury as has been discussed here, it's a much more serious situation.

That was pretty stupid! He obviously went for the intentional and if you look close, as he brought his arm down, he put his head down, indicating that he put all of his force into his arm to foul the dude. You can't tell me that he didn't know his own strength. He tried to hurt the guy and was surprised to see how much he hurt him. He needs to be suspended for a couple games. I bet the NBA reviews the tapes. That was just stupid! Besides, he had him beat to the basket. You have to let him go, if your that far away.

Well, not saying it is bitchy, but he has had neck problems dating back to college, so that's just a tad serious, and in that play, it looked like his neck snapped back after (And to top off) getting smacked in the head, and not to mention slamming his head on the floor along with the rest of his body.

Fragile? I think that would be a potential career ending play for just about every athlete in the world right there.

Prayers and thoughts to Mr. Ford so he can get back quickly, or at least recover quickly and fully. He should not rush back one bit.

Small warriors like him and Iverson always get my respect. The reason they get all sort of injury problems is because they tend to play bigger than they actually are.

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/hawks/entries/2007/12/12/horfords_a_clas.html

Horford was one of several people affiliated with the Hawks to go directly to the hospital to check on Ford - Dominique Wilkins and Josh Smith’s father Pete Smith were there, too - and make sure he knew that what happened was purely accidental.

Horford, I’m told, waited quite a while for Ford to get done with tests just to make sure he got the chance to speak with him personally. And when told that Horford came to check on him and wanted to speak with him, Ford let it be known that he knew Horford’s lick wasn’t intentional and that he welcomed Horford to stop by and visit.

None of that will make it on the highlight shows. But it’s just an example of the class shown by all involved in what was a frightening sequence, particularly for a guy (in Ford) who has dealt with spine, neck and back issues in his past.

Horford is a good guy , but after that ordeal I had to trade him

i JUST TRADED HORFORD FOR CALDERON in one of my fantasy leagues.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
