Here's what I don't get, Holfresh and Nixluva: If you supported like 90% of Isiah's decisions, why would you want him fired? You're taking a big gamble here. How do you know he won't be replaced by a GM who makes moves you dislike rather than ones you invariably like? And shouldn't Isiah be given more than 19 games (not even one-fourth of one season) to get his players to mesh? He has to learn how to incorporate the 20/10 stud we just stole from Portland into the offense.
My loyalty hasn't been to any one player or coach, but to the team. That's been my position and I haven't changed. Arguing in favor of what someone has done up to a certain point doesn't mean undying devotion forever. That's just something people want to put on those of us who have been more supportive of the team. As if you can't change your mind ever. Here's the difference between us. I never root against the team. I only want to see the team succeed and if there's a coach or GM or player I don't like, i'll say so, but that doesn't mean I want to see the team fail just so I could get rid of that person. It's talk like that which get's a reponse from so called lovers, not any deep loyalty to Isiah or Steph per se.
I said many times that I like to take assessment after a 1/4 of a season and basically look at things every 20 games or so. I like many of the players he's brought in, but i've NEVER said that he was a great GM, only that he drafted very well and that with the talent he's put together this team should be able to win more than half of it's games. It's not like anyone here has ever said that this is a title contender or a high playoff seed. Most would say at best 6-8 spot in the playoffs in the East. It's no secret that the roster is flawed. However, it should still be possible to win games with this roster. Still we all know that this team needs more improvement. This is why we keep looking for the eventual replacement for Steph and Q etc.
My problem with Isiah this year is that he's looked totally lost in terms of how he wants to use the players he's brought in. He's given very uneven treatment to players as well. Q plays too much and Lee too little. Zach stays on the floor when he's playing like crap and he takes Curry out. I don't know why he's gone completely away from the principles of his offense, when those are the kinds of things that make for great offense. When you have effective post up and penetration, there should never be a game when you can't score 90+ points. Steph used to be a great pick and roll/pop player and we should be able to do that like we did with KT using Zach. You never see it. Isiah made a mistake this offseason in not making sure we had enough perimeter shooting to keep the floor open for his post players. I was hopeful that Q and Jamal would be able to give us a reasonable level of outside shooting. Not all time low shooting % like Q has had or even more inconsistent shooting from Jamal than he's had in his career.
To be fair the team has had some very unfortunate issues with death in the family, but at some point you have to see some evidence of good coaching even with your replacement players. I haven't seen enough of that.
Fair enough.
But I can see a big difference in how we approaching the players, GM, coach, and the organization.
You always evaluate them based on potential and the best possible scenario.
We "haters" are evaluating based on how they did in the past, how they looks now, and on potentially worst or average scenario.
If players were losers they most likely will be losers forever.
Same goes to the coach and GM. If he was loser in his previous jobs we assume he will be a loser forever.
If organization sucks for years and years under this ownership, it will forever suck, until they will sell the thing or will be forced to change their ways.
When Knicks organization was great, players were working hard and had desire to win, coach and GM did good job, and MSG was The Mecca Of Basketball we was the biggest "lovers" in NBA. And the only hope we have - this will be possible again someday.
