I hate this entire team. no one is worth keeping. My ideal situation is to start over completely, with a distinct system in place... essentially, my plan would be to copy Toronto's and pray the Knicks get lucky in the lotto and get a Bosh-type or better.
Considering I just got back from a friggin test (my professor is a dick... Saturday?!?!) and I didn't really sleep, I don't feel like going out. This would be my strategy if I were GM. Yes, it is one of those threads.
Strategy
Coach:
Hire a coach that's hungry, understands what it takes to win and has the pedigree to establish said system. Tom Thibodeau is the guy the Knicks should have hired instead of Chaney and comes from the Riley/JVG school of coaching. If he were open to installing a guard-oriented offense, he'd be my run away choice. That's the type of coach Knicks fans ultimately embrace, support. Perhaps a better candidate would emerge, but I don't really know who is available, given ho young the season is.
Trades:
David Lee to Phoenix for the 2008 pick Atlanta owes them and Alando Tucker. When I said I wanted everyone gone, I wasn't kidding. No one is safe with me in charge, and I like the probability that Atlanta falls apart and the Knicks get a top pick. Tucker is a mature rookie that understands "winning." WOn't be a star, but I like what he'd bring off the end of the bench. I could see David Lee flourishing in Phoenix... couldn't you?
Eddy Curry to Charlotte for Jared Dudley, Sean May/Adam Morrison, and Matt Carrol (when he can be traded). Jared Dudley is really who I'm after here and Carrol's outside shot would be welcomed. Morrison/May doesn't matter, because we're doing the Cats a favor by taking either (read: cap filler). Cats can build around an Okafor/Curry front court, which is nice.
Jamal Crawford, Malik Rose, and Jared Jeffries to Cleveland for Ira Newble, Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall, and Eric Snow. Cleveland needs some talent and a decent supporting cast around LeBron. Even Rose's leadership might be worth something next to LeBron. As for New York: PEACE! They all expire after next off season.
Zach Randolph to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich and Joe Smith. Great time to buy low with Hinrich and Chicago needs a low post player. Hate to deal with them again, but why limit trade partners because Thomas is an idiot?
Renaldo Balkman, Wilson Chandler, and Mardy Collins to the Spurs for the rights to Tiago Splitter, Fransico Elson, and a number one draft pick. Balkman gets to learn from Bowen, while the Knicks get a big man legitimate prospect.
Stephon Marbury to the Heat for Dorell Wright, Jason Wililams, and Mark Blount. Riley got lemonade out of a bunch of lemons when they won the championship... and this is essentially nothing for Marbury, though I do like Wright in that off-the-bench sort of way.
Nate Robinson to Minnesota for Ryan Gomes. Apparently, Gomes is gone in the off season and the Wolves ar elooking for young "talent." I'd like to hold onto Gomes; he's got some talent.
Nobody wants QRich, so might as well keep him around with some of the other garbage to warn players that their asses are GONE if they suck.
Meaningful Assets: Our pick (this team will suck) Atlanta's pick Kirk Hinrich Jared Dudley (he's good... and I've been backing him for a long time) the rights to Tiago Splitter a bunch of cap space in two off seasons
Decent Assets: Ryan Gomes Matt Carrol Alando Tucker Dorrell Wright first rounder from San Antonio Francisco Elson
Essentially, my strategy wwould be to rebuild on the fly, both in terms of young talent and in terms of financial structure while having a solid coach installed..
