To an Offer Sheet.

I wonder what the numbers are it's a 3yr deal

I bet he got a deal similar to Darko 3yr $21mil somewhere in that neighborhood. All Cleveland has to do is work a S&T and get the TE for the salary he signs for even if they end up with just a 2nd round pick because the Bobcats are under cap. I'll be intrigued how this turns out because like Charlie Bell he doesn't want to return to Cleveland nor does Cleveland want him back but they stated last week S&T options were being explored.

Right now it's on hoopshype.com. The source is a brazilian paper with the wrong date on it so it's fishy but they probably have their time/date stamp wrong. I'll go with the fact it's egit.

Thanks. Just curious for fantasy-reasons. I guess I'll just pick him up and hope it works out.

Actually I checked again and the date is correct I read it incorrectly. They show they day/month/yr instead of month/day/yr and the article has direct quotes from him......

ok, so they drafted sean may = bust.
they have ok4 who turned down an extension.
they just drafted jared dudley who is a similar player.
and brezec is not that great.

so after they sign verejao, what happens next?

They have Dudley playing the backup 3 right now getting some minutes at the 4. Their biggest hole was the 4. Brezec is no longer in their future plans he's an expiring contract. With that said if Jordan can swing a deal Brezec, Morrison or Carroll plus a pick for unnamed piece he might be able to vault Charlotte into a serious force to be reckoned with.

Dudley is more of a 3- he doesn't really duplicate Varajao. He actually is more of a complementary offensive player while Anderson is a rebound/hustle guy.

Sean May is what he is. He's not necessarily a bust- he played very nicely at time last year. But the Bobcats should've known what they were getting with him. He's an out of shape player and out of shape players don't stay healthy on this level.

Anyway, he replaces Brezec as starting C next to Okafor.

My question is what happened to Walter Herrman?

You know would would fit great with that team is Zach.....

They have a defensive 3 in Wallace a strong defensive five in Okafur and Richardson who is killing it from downtown to go with Felton dissing it out. Jordan might actually think about that one

$17.4mil isn't that much it's gotta be frontloaded otherwise Cleveland matches just from the pure standpoint you could deal him on that kind of contract if they don't want to keep him in the fold. Or maybe not since 1/5 of the season is already gone. I guess you could look at this as a 3yr/$19mil contract which is close to what Darko received.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In need of a big man, the Charlotte Bobcats reached agreement Tuesday on a three-year offer sheet with Cleveland restricted free agent Anderson Varejao, giving the Cavaliers a week to match the deal or lose him.

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported the offer sheet is worth $17.4 million, which would fit the Bobcats' mid-level salary cap exception

Varejao's agent, Dan Fegan, could not immediately be reached.

The 6-foot-10 Varejao has been in a prolonged contract dispute with the Cavaliers, which has kept him sidelined this season. He said last week that he would prefer to be traded.

"I wanted to come back," he told ESPN.com's Chad Ford last week. "I love the fans and I really love my teammates. But there are others there that have made it very difficult. It's gotten to the point that I don't want to play there anymore. I'm just hoping for a sign-and-trade at this point."

The 25-year-old Varejao averaged 6.8 points and 6.7 rebounds last season in helping the Cavaliers reach the NBA finals for the first time.

Cavs GM Danny Ferry told Ford last week that the team still wants Varejao back.

"We fully understand that negotiations can be emotional," Ferry said. "As for Anderson's potential to remain a Cavalier and put this behind us, we value his presence in this organization, on and off the court, and that has not changed."

Bobcats coach Sam Vincent has been pleading for a big man since the beginning of the season. The Bobcats lost Sean May to season-ending knee surgery in training camp. Starting center Primoz Brezec has been ineffective and was replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Jared Dudley Monday night in Toronto, the Bobcats' sixth straight loss.

Before training camp opened, Varejao turned down Cleveland's one-year, $1.2 million qualifying offer. If he had signed that deal, the former second-round pick could have become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

In late October, the Cavaliers rejected a six-year, $52 million package presented by Fegan.

Varejao is known for his energy and defense, and the move comes a day after Vincent questioned his team's focus and preparation following the 98-79 loss to the Raptors.

The Bobcats, with 15 guaranteed contracts, would have to release a player to add Varejao if the Cavaliers don't match the offer.

Salaries dont' have to necessarily match altogether because they are under the cap slightly. They'd only have to come up with $6-7mil in salaries to make it work according to the numbers on Hoopshype. To be honest if we could get a first round draft pick, Brezec, Hollins, and Othella Harrington I'm all over that deal.

I like the idea. Since they are under the cap, they would not necessarily have to send back equal contracts. I would trade Zach for a 1st round pick and a prospect. The Bobcats pick should be in the lottery, which would give us two chances to get a stud PG out of the draft.

Varejao is a solid signing but they need low post scorering and Varejao and Okafur do not really provide that on a consistent basis. Not sure if this signing is really going to help them other than that they are short on bigs at the moment.

That's not bad, but I wonder if they will want to fill that space with Randolph of all players...

I'm not so sure the Bobcats are under the cap. If this is true:

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported the offer sheet is worth $17.4 million, which would fit the Bobcats' mid-level salary cap exception

...that would indicate that the Cats are not since you do not get the mid level unless you are over the cap.

Also, the cap for this season is $53.1M. Hoopshype has the Cats total salary around $51.7M. His first years salary is prob more then the $1.4M needed to fit.

Jordan probably puts protection on the pick. Being that they traded Brandon Wright can they even give up their first rounder this yr? If I'm not mistaken Bickerstaff is still a part of the brain trust and I'm sure if they end up in the lottery they wouldn't want to trade another lottery pcik and especially not for Zach Randolph. It could be considered though more than likely without protection and even then I'd tell Zach just like a Prominent Blazer stated YOU GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE.

Varejo was an unsigned FA? I just assumed he was still with the Cavs. We should have beaten that offer.

You are right in that they might not be able to trade picks this year. We could do a pick swap like we did with the Bulls, but we would need more assets from the Bobcats if it is just a pick swap. They have Herrman, Morrison, May, Brezec, and Carroll as guys they would be willing to give up. Morrison might be someone to consider, but they might not be quite ready to deal him yet and especially not for Randolph. So we would be looking at May, Herrman, or Brezec. Since we already have a non-rebounding center, I think Brezec is out. May and Herrman for Randolph and a pick swap might be the best they would offer and that might not work under the salary cap.
