Counted Out, Knicks Show Their Resolve

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/01/sports/basketball/01knicks.html?ref=sports

Another night that began with boos and chants to fire Coach Isiah Thomas ended with the Knicks’ third victory in four games. That is their best four-game stretch this season, a 45-point blowout defeat notwithstanding.

The week had begun with a stunning victory over Utah that seemed to signal a shift in the Knicks’ personality and confidence. Then came Thursday’s collapse in Boston and a lot of renewed doubts. “Are we the team that beat Chicago and Utah and played well, or are we the team that lost last night and had a tough loss in Denver?” Thomas asked before the game. “We’ve yet to find our identity.”

This is why I felt the win was so important. Not just to save Isiah, that's not what is important. It's the fact that they had those 2 wins and then the no show. To make the wins stand up more than the no show, they had to win. It completely changes the situation to win this game right after the big loss.

This team needs to get it together. The one thing that has changed with the exception of the Boston Massacre is that the effort on D has been better. Right now the offense is a mess and that's the only reason we're still looking so bad. The team can most certainly play better offensively than we seen at times.

They need to take advantage of the extra home games in December. It's very important since they haven't won on the road. The home wins would give the team confidence that might translate into some road wins. The schedule is easier and I hope it's the break this team needs to get on track.

It's good they won. But they'll need alot more than 3 home wins and a .333 winning percentage to get any credit from me with the talent on the roster we have.

Take Eddy and Steph out of lineup ant this team can win more games.
They can go from 5-10 in a month to may be 7-9.
But if they remove even more useless players thay can go to 50%.
Granted.

Hopefully the Knicks will continue to win so that Isiah and Marbury can hang around for a few more years.

The knicks have won 3 out of their last 4?! Wow, they've totally turned the corner. nixluva was right afterall. Isiah is a god among men....... I can't believe I ever doubted this team, but it's clear now that they're going to make the playoffs. I just hope Boston is ready for a first round upset!!

I'm surprised Isiah's yet to recognize our identity.

We're a soft, fragile group lacking chemistry, leadership and discipline. Our offense is marked by poor shooting, poor playmaking and poor feeding of the post. We start games sluggish, fall into an early hole, and head into half-time despondent and confused. we hope our second unit can make up lost ground in the 3rd and Jamal can go unconscious in the 4th to win it with a prayer in the final seconds.

At it's root, Isiah simply doesn't get why he can't just throw together a bunch of Tim Thomases and Shandon Andersons and get consistent play.

Seriously, why can't we just win a game or two once Isiah and Steph are gone ?

I'm just tired of losing. This team is still technically garbage, but it would be nice if the entire team had a collective epiphany of "Hey! Being terrible sucks! How about we give what it takes to be good! Everyone will love us! We're all gonna get laid!"

The only potential problem here is this whole Marbury versus Thomas fiasco. I'm pretty sure Isiah Thomas knows what he wants from the point guard position.

"Sorry about yesterday, but we bounced back," he said. "We refused to lose."

Crawford was one of the most vocal Knicks after the 104-59 devastation in Boston, speaking up in the locker room and imploring his teammates to be more professional. He backed up those words by taking over the game in the fourth quarter on a night Stephon Marbury injured his shoulder and could miss tomorrow's game against Phoenix.

"Sometimes when (Crawford's) not making shots, you have to live with those nights because nights like this he shoots you back into the game," Thomas said.

Even lousy .400 teams will have one or two stretches where they win 3 out of 4. This is still a bad team. The only thing these wins are doing is pushing us to the lower end of the draft lottery.

I still don't get the jelly donut comment. You didn't explain it last time either. Are you confusing me for a fat, donut eater? My name is not Eddy Curry or Zach Randolph.

I hurt when they lose and smile when they win. Jelly donuts are my symbolic/ virtual victory breakfast yo.

Just for a brief moment I allow myself the small breath to not kvetch over Marbury, Isiah, the minutes, proposed trades/executive decisions or the value of Cablevision shares. It goes in the win column as a small plus. Not a turned corner or a sign of the playoffs any more than Boston was a sign of the apocalypse.

For a brief second I allow myself to smile 'cuz I plays 'em one at a time

This is exactly how I feel. Exactly!!!!!!

Everytime the team wins a game we have a group of people and the players begging for credit. Literally begging the world to give them credit. "Look what I've done". "love me". "Oh God, please love me". "Oh God please love them". Sports is simple. Win games and you will be loved. Lose games and you will not. 5-10 with inconsistent effort is not going to get you love because you won 3 out of 4. What gets you love is getting your record to wear it should be.

I know this kind of talk may sound a little to hard edge and tough for some of you little women, but I've been watching and playing sports my entire life, and this rule has never changed. And it will not change no matter how much you guys beg for it. When this team wins consistently you will see the mood of this board and everywhere else change. Until then, it will not. Accept it, and sit back and pray your team gets it together. And quit being such pansies.
I just hope that people will like me

Alright, hold up kids.

We won 3 of 4:

*Home: Squeaked by a terrible Bulls team.
*Home: Squeaked by a Jazz team on the tail end of their road trip, back to back no less (Hey, Isiah and you guys use this excuse non-stop why can't the Jazz?)
*Road: Blown out by 45 in Boston
*Home: Squeaked by a Bucks team who choked away the game with turnovers and bad shots in the fourth.

Now we're suddenly good again? Like we're an expansion team and our record is 3-1? Gimme a break....

Also, this would be a laughable quote if it weren't so disturbing.
"Sometimes when (Crawford's) not making shots, you have to live with those nights because nights like this he shoots you back into the game," Thomas said.

What? So his 1-8 start to the game shooting us INTO a HOLE is something you can live with because he finally started emulating a SHOOTING guard late in the game!?

Seriously, STFU.

Anyone that buys this reject's dribble needs to get a grip on reality.
