According to several sources besides the post, Steph got permisson to leave after he talked to Isiah (we all know that).

But after that according to sources Isiah and the organization decided to put out a story saying Steph went AWOL even though he got permission.

Michael Kay is ripping through Isiah and the Knicks right now.

From the way it is going, Isiah is trying to make Steph look like the bad guy with this AWOL story even though he got permission to leave.

I can see MSG making that move, but Isiah, why? What does he gain?

I am sorry. But this all makes no sense to me. Why would any purposefully try to create this type of controversy at the beginning of the year when team has not had a terrible start. Is IT purposefully trying to sabotage the season?

I hate to defend Isiah, but Isiah is a more credible source than Marbury.

Isiah doesn't want to look like the bad guy or accept any culpabilitiy. What we've got here is egos the size of Everest and what happens is the end is that everyone associated with the Knicks looks like an idiot.

This is crazy. Isiah has a TEAM to be worried about. If Steph asks to leave that isn't a coach thing, that's a player putting himself before the team. I don't care if Isiah did put this out there. What else is he supposed to do when they take the floor and Steph isn't there? He's got to explain why.

No single person is above the team. In this case Isiah is trying to win games and he's obviously looking to make changes that will improve the D, so how can he be the person in the wrong in this case?

What if when the plane landed Isiah told Stephon... Mardy is starting in your place tonight and if you don't like it you can go home, and Marbury in his $.10 head interpreted that statement as 'permission' to leave.

It deflects criticism from him. They're going to get another black eye with their record anyway, but that's obviously all on Isiah. To do this makes it seem like he's being proactive, plus if they can make Marbury look bad by saying he went AWOL, then it deflects even more attention from Isiah.

Isiah is already hanging by a thread. This is called desperation. There's nothing rational about it.

The way I see it this team is not just Steph and Jamal. You have to look at the future of this team and what pieces we need to make this a contender. This is why I don't agree with the blow it up "hater" take on this team. You look at teams like Cleveland and they don't have a better team, they've got one great player and a bunch of so so guys. Here we've got a lot of good young talent, but some vets that aren't producing the results we need. So we can start to phase them out and go with our promising young players and see what we've got. It's the smart thing to do at this point.

If those vets like Francis or Steph don't like it so what? The important thing is the advancement of the team. I could care less about bruised egos. If your not with me then your against me! Let Steph have his cry at home and when he comes to his senses, he might not be needed anymore. For the good of the team that would be the best case scenario. I've been one of Steph biggest supporters, but when you go against the TEAM, that's the line in the sand.

How come you didn't feel that way when Marbury went against Larry Brown?

Did Steph leave the team on the eve of an important westcoast trip under LB? NO! Did LB coach like he didn't care about this franchise? YES! Steph was wrong for throwing a tantrum in his one game protest and I wouldn't say that he wasn't. LB was wrong in his season long protest against the team and that shouldn't be overlooked. Besides let's not make this about me and my position on things that happened in the past. It's about the actions of Steph and Isiah at this time.

I wont pretend to understand what's going on here, but one thing I do know is the team could have issued a statement saying Marbury needed to head home for personal reasons. You hear that all the time.

I suspect the organization is fearful of what Marbury might do - Like calling Berman with something embarrassing. This way they can dismiss anything damaging by saying he's just a bitter employee looking for revenge.

Pure speculation, but I don't know what else explains the org going so public with embarrassing news that is typically covered up.
