I really can't understand why people think this team as is will not duplicate the same effort as last yr.

They have no incentives to get better , the money has already been paid(except the young guys).

It's time to break this team up.

Tell me this who is the leader of this team(I didn't say captain)

Does his play lead by example or is he inconsistent ?

Therefore we have no leaders !

This is why when Isiah was asked "who's the leader of this team" he said I'm the leader of the team and didn't give that distinguish position to any of his current players.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

The closest we have to a leader is QRich.

Malik would be the top guy but over the years it's obvious nobody listens to him and nobody wants to hear it from him so I think he's started to give up.

Lee looks like he has some potential leadership in him as does Balkman.

We do not have a true clear cut leader. A captain you'd be afraid to ignore. A player you'd hate to make eye contact with after you screwed up. No, we don't have one, not even close.

Does anyone remember a few years ago where Isiah said he didn't want anyone to feel they had to be the leader of the team because he would be their leader?

What happened to that? I sure don't see leadership from Isiah.

I think we still reap the rewards of Marbury's preferred status and beguiling negative leadership.

No.

And I was gonna make a thread about this, but since *******s on here dont take kindly to my OP's, I'll share them here:

1 The Knicks roster doesn't have 1, not ONE All-Star. My definition of an All-Star is any player whose been elected once, or more, in the last 2 years.

2 The Knicks don't have a leader either. A leader doesn't have to necessarily be your best player. Sam Cassell was the leader of that Clipz team a few years back, for example.

3 The Knicks roster ALSO doesn't have a franchise player. For me, a fran. player is someone who is BOTH an All-Star & Leader, AND someone who is untouchable, b/c they're too important to the team. That's how you can really measure what's up...

There aren't many in the league. Sam Cassell is a leader, but not an All-Star.

And Vince Carter is an All-Star, but not a leader.

In fact, I'll list who I see as franchise players:

Franchise players

Jason Kidd
Kobe Bryant (on the right team)
Carlos Boozer
KG
TD
Dirk (and he's playin like one, believe it)
Lebron James (in a few years, he'll be more mature)
Dwayne Wade
Steve Nash
Chris Bosh (give'm a few years to be a leader)
Dwight Howard (he needs to grow, but WILL be their fran. player)
Baron Davis (All-Star for now, leadership unquestioned in DAL series)
Chris Paul (give'em a few years, I think he'll be a leader...)
T-Mac
Carmello Anthony (bit kiddish, but give'em a few years)
Gilbert Arenas

* As you see, I don't list borderline guys like Shaq, Elton Brand or Jermaine O'Neal. (for injury purposes as well). If JO was a TRUE franchise player, for example, you wouldn't be hearing his names AT ALL in rumours.

That's 16 players I listed. Ironic isn't it - 16 guys, 16 playoff spots.

Might be a bit generous, but I threw in guys who WILL BECOME them in the near future, so bite me.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

A leader is someone who is followed--not necessarily someone who leads in a positive direction. Marbury has been the team's leader for the past 4 years and still is the team's leader. And our record reflects his leadership.

So why did isiah who won two championships and was a leader himself when he played ,didn't give any of his current roster the title of leader ?

Isiah said a couple of players are the leaders at the beginning of the year....... if that helps.

That was last year, he went on SAS to start the season again and changed his answer. He feels he sees many leaders now.

I like what I see in Balkman in terms of the toughness a leader needs to have. He showed this last year when he got in Lebron's face and last night when he got in Howard's face (both were very brief "altercations" if they could even be called that). He doesn't let it slide if he feels like he's being overly roughed up. Gives him an odd sort of enforcer-type role.

Reminds me of Oakley, but Oak was big enough to give it right back as well. Balkman is quite the skin and bones enforcer.

^ Lol.

Renaldo Balkman has a ways to go before being a leader. Like 4 years.

Oh most definitely - don't see him filling that void any time soon. Would be nice for him to develop his offensive game so he could have the respect of his teammates in that area. But I could definitely see him developing into the type of player who would rip into his teammates for a lack of effort or toughness on their part.

You want to see a real leader, look at Kevin Garnett. He completely takes charge of this time out. (Doc Rivers manages to get a word or two in as well.)

If anything, he's our 'self proclaimed leader'.
