“It's about time we turned the corner,'' Crawford said. “We're as deep as any team. It's not like injuries should hold us back. There's no excuse this year. Making the playoffs, we won't be happy with. We honestly feel like we're as good as any team in the East.''

“I think I come with the team, so I don’t think I can separate myself from the team’s achievements or its disappointments,” he said. “So whatever we do together as a group, we should all get credit for. Whatever we do together as a group, we’ll all take the blame for.” - Isiah Thomas

It's a win-win scenario. Given the events of the offseason, Friday's game against the Cavs is as good a place to start playing bettter basketball as any.

"It is an article of faith among the players and Coach Isiah Thomas that the new season will provide some sort of sanctuary, and that good basketball can trump a bad off-season. Yet they also concede that losing, as the Knicks have done for six straight years, will only exacerbate matters." - NYTimes

Might as well pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the ride.

OK.
Let's mark their words and see what they cost.
Isiah and some players put themselves into position with only one exit - winning.
Will see how it works. This can do wonders or destroy them.
50/50
In both cases it is good for fans – no more mute points. The truth will come up soon.

I think everybody is on board with this. The Knicks have to make the playoffs (or at least come pretty damn close (I mean like last day of the season close)) if IT has any hopes of remaining beyond this year.

Friendly Public Service for a Fellow Knicks Fan Missing Some Vowels

arkrud - You put a mute on a trumpet. Or hit the mute button.

arkrud - the point is moot. The Knicks ARE making the playoffs.

Let the truth be told.

Fearless Prediction Number 2,783 - Mardy Collins is the starting point guard in February

They need to start putting in a consistent effort night in and night out before they start considering the playoffs an after thought.

Crawford is simply echoing the phrases of the many that have been vilified on this very site.

I thought that many here didn't want this kind of talk from any Knicks players.

Personally I don't think talking matters one bit. What this team does is simply a matter of preparation and execution. When they do what they're supposed to do, this is a playoff team. When they don't it looks like a lottery team. Despite the make up of the roster being imperfect, there's still enough talent here to be competitive with any team in the East. Therefore I expect a playoff birth.

VDesai - pardon my interruption, but nowhere did I see the playoffs mentioned as an afterhought as if it were being taken for granted. The implications that some want to drop on positive forward-thinking comments staggers the brain.

Check it out, there is not a single NBA franchise that makes a consistent effort from wire to wire. Basketball is a game of runs. Peaks and valleys. If you watched San Antonio last night you could see the effort peak and wane as the gritty Blazers made their "effort" plays and valiant runs at them in the 4th quarter.

The difference between winning and losing is knowing how to defend runs and close out games in the end. For me, the difference between making the playoffs or not. It is NOT simply about consistent "effort", but making the correct, intelligent decisions in the clutch and having enough fearless depth of talent that can make decisive plays under three minutes to play.

The fourth quarter is when all hell breaks loose in the NBA.

The Knicks ARE making the playoffs. Bulledat.

If one devised and equation to look at the playoff experience of players relative to their time in the league and/or salary I'd imagine we rank at the bottom of the league. i mean how many playoff games or wins do our starters have between them? Depends who starts, but either way the answer is, not many.

Does throwing together bunch of guys without a history of winning increase or decrease your chance of winning? I'm just asking.

Not ignorant BJ. A little slow perhaps. But never ignorant.

What better environment than the crucible of New York to feed the competitive fire of a bunch of misfits who have never won anything in their lives?

The Balkman flies again.

Blueseats - I feel your pain. I think the beating up on Jamal for never being on a playoff team is like beating up Barkley or Ewing for never having won a ring.

The new Knicks are composed of a bunch of guys, most under 27, that have a helluva lot to learn. While some kvetch over Marbury, Jerome and Malik, they totally overlook the possibilities of guys who have yet to find their collective voice.
