May To Undergo Microfracture Surgery, Done For Season

Charlotte Bobcats forward Sean May will miss the season after deciding to undergo microfracture surgery on his troublesome right knee.

May, who saw two knee specialists this week, will have the surgery Tuesday in New York. Recovery time will take six to 12 months.

"Obviously this is a terrible blow for our basketball team and another setback for Sean," Bobcats coach Sam Vincent said Friday. "We want what's best for him, and unfortunately that requires surgery."

May, the 13th pick in the 2005 draft, has played in only 58 of 164 games over the past two seasons. He had surgery to remove cartilage during his rookie season, then developed a bone bruise last year.

He had been undergoing an extensive offseason program, but was still troubled by knee pain. May missed the start of training camp to see knee specialists in New York and Alabama.

ah, I may have been a bit harsh, but what the hell, I keep forgetting he isn't in a knicks uniform, so maybe I should say. " well at least the bobcats are under the cap and the knicks aren't, and he is better than any knick rookie since walt frazier" Isn't that the way things go around here?

I will be going to lots of Bobcats games this season. Should be lots of fun now that Bernie and his walk it up Stephon Marbury style offense is no longer. Run and gun with Felton, JRich, Crash, Okafor and Herrmann. And they play defense! That starting lineup is waaaaaaaaay better than the crap Isiah trots out.

Why do so many players have surgery right before the season starts? Why not due it in May so you miss less of the regular season? Do they injure their knees in September or something?

Tough break for May. He actually is a pretty solid player when healthy, but he has missed a large number of games every season that he has been in the league. At least this will help us beat the Bobcats for that 7th-8th playoff spot.

May is a heavy dude and it's causing major problems for his career. I guess he feels he doesn't have to work as hard because of his lineage, past college success and the fact he's a Carolina guy. If I was Jordan I'd have a long hard talk with him and tell him as soon as he's healed and shows he can play he's on the clock to being traded.

It's unacceptable to be out of shape as a professional athlete, having access to the resources they do, while getting paid millions .
