I haven't said my peace here on my favorite Knick so... here it goes. I'll try to give you the Reader's Digest version.

Sprewell has been the heart and soul of this team since he got here. He sacrificed his own personal goals and played his entire Knick career out of position for the good of the team... so our 100MM man could slack on defense and take open J's.

As Layden was destroying the team, something interesting started to occur, Latrell (to a degree) became the scapegoat of some.. which unfortunately happens quite frequently in situations like these... and that is the ultimate irony.

Anyway, for the good of the Knicks, I've been saying for some time, Latrell should be traded... he's one of our few tradable commodities and we need to get younger. Unfortunately, Layden can't be trusted to do anything well... so whatever is to take place is likely to be a disaster... my only hope is... Latrell is sent to a contender. Then, even at his age, he can prove all his critics wrong. He's a winner with gas left in the tank.

Spree (a guy that cares so much), like all Knick fans, deserves better than the hand Layden dealt him here. I hope has the chance to win elsewhere... it's certainly not happening in New York. He'll always be my dawg.

I agree with you what is the point of making him play a role that is not his calling. He would be better off else where. I think Spree is looking to get out of NY too. There is nothing left here its a organization that is destined for failure. I think most of the Knicks want out of here.

I am starting to believe the same, Pike...
I want to see Spree win here, but this damn idiot (read: Scott LayDown) is only making things worse every season. I am not sure if Spree is worth as much tradewise as he was before this season. His stats have declined. As I stated in aother thread, I can't lagically see myself trusting LayDown's offseason moves (then again, who in their right mind can?!?! ).
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

The question is, what team has a need at SG for Sprewell and is willing to pay for his contract (including giving up another big contract)?

It is time Spree left town - and all remnants of 99 and the Ewing era. We need a new Knicks, new life, new everything. It will be a painful process but it is the only way this team will ever end up in the finals again with a shot at winning.

OK so that means getting rid of Allan Houston too? I wish that we could jettison that $100M contract in exchange for someone who is more worth it.

I actually think Houston should go as well, the only problem is his contract. He is paid like a superstar but he is not one. Nobody will take him for that kind of money - you would have to be a genious or a magician to pull of a trade getting a solid/marquee player for H20 and that bloated payday.

How many times are we going to have this discussion? Noboody is going to take Houston and we can't get good value for Spree. We're stuck with both of them.

Sprewell's value should be more important for teams looking for vet leadership and short term contract. Teams that fit the need for this type of leadership includes Cleveland, Memphis, Chicago, and LAttery Clipps.

Teams will not take on Allan's contract because of long term commitment, that's OK, Houston should be NY's keeper. Houston will surprise a many nay sayer next season.

He is not washep up!!!

He is just taking the LJ role and being a good soldier. He can definitely still be a 20+ point scorer in this league.

just like the knicks to try and ship a player away when he is torn down from the physical and emotional stress of playing out of position for a lottery team with no direction...and he still won't say his name is toby...

it's too late now...

ride it out
all those years as a fan and now i'm the anti-knick. life is crazy aint it.

Spree still has value for teams looking for vet leadership: Memphis,
Clipps, Cavs and Chitown. Maybe with a younger team Spree can execute
the type of game fans can take notice of. Sorry to see raw energy wasting away.

I want the best for Spree just like every other Knick fan. I really would like to see Spree return to his game, but I don't believe he will; although he may buy into another team, another system similar to what Jason Kidd and Rip Hamilton have accomplihed with their respective new teams.

The most important aspect of a Spree trade is to maximize NY's return while adding value to Spree's new team with his experience and courtside leadership.

Playa once said, "Spree has passed the window of opportunity with NY"
I agree....could not have said it better
