Jamal Crawford hit the weight room during the summer for maybe the first time in his career. The bulked-up Crawford is up to 204 pounds - from last season's 187. Crawford said he wanted to be stronger toget through screens and become more durable. He said he's planning on being the starting shooting guard.

Zach Randolph did not look in great shape at all. And he and Eddy Curry have yet to be on the court together because Randolph didn't arrive in New York until last Wednesday for his physical.

wow, Jamal at 204 sounds great... now maybe he can body up on some guys on defense & not let them muscle him so easily... should help him get through screens too... just hope his knees stand up to the added bodyweight... he won't exactly be D Wade or anything, but he probably won't be a string bean anymore either... can't wait to see him on the floor.

I'm hoping he still has his foot speed and is not a step too slow. I thought his defense was decent last year on pg. His problem was guarding shooting guards.

Hopefully he didn't just add a lot of fat. If it's muscle, I'm really optimistic about how much this can improve his performance. He should be more explosive to the basket and better able to draw and absorb contact and finish. That's important when a player shoots FTs as well as he does.

thats 17 pounds of muscle in a summer, which, while not impossible, isnt likely. BUt it doesnt all need to be muscle. He just needs some bulk and it appears he's got it. Now if he grew a few ounces of heart, that would go a long way. I'll be cheering for him.

Whatever you say, missesearl.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I'm sure the extra weight will really help Jamal's ankle.

You know, the one with the stress fracture.

I know gaining that much weight will slow him down a tad and may affect his shot. Maybe it will benefit him I'm happy he took his off-season seriously.

exactly, at least he took his offseason seriously & came into camp determined to be an improved player from last season, & not just giving empty lip service like "I'm gonna average 13 dimes a game this year".

everyone on the team had trouble guarding shooting guards.

and point guards, and forwards, and centers.

crawford was ok in terms of deflections- more than anything, if he added strength, it should help him on offense as well- maybe he won't be a timid girl and avoid the lane- oh, wait, I've just insulted female basketball players from jr high all the way up to wnba.

not for nothing but i think your talking about Marbury indicating that he doesn't come prepared to do his job. Call Marbury alot of things, but he is always prepared to battle. His career numbers back that up, the dip in his numbers the past few seasons are solely because he decided to play a different style and adapt to what the coaches were asking him to do. Not mention he had a pretty good season last year. Talk to me about why Randolph doesn't look in shape

Dude he did not come prepared to battle last yr. He was totally out of shape to start camp and didn't catch up until like the 3month of the season.
