I think the jury is still out...He called some nice plays during the season last year but I also saw some cases where the lineup was mismatched..He was one of the first coaches I saw urging his team to push the ball against Dallas..Later we saw what Golden State did to them...I don't think the Knicks had to players to do what the Warriors did against the Mavs..But he knew what their weaknesses were...I like how some players developed under him but this is a team game that requires team effort...So until he gets this team to perform to their potential then he can't be considered a good coach...Injuries was also an issue last year when the team seemed to be getting their act together...So, I would say the jury is still out...

I think he's the only coach who has a chance at keeping the group of characters he has assembled motivated. Marbury has destroyed ever other coach that has been here.

can you explain why you think he's a good coach? is he a good motivator? is he good with player development? is he good x's and o's? is he a good game strategist or counter-strategist?

in don nelson's defense, he was pushing the ball before isiah even kissed magic...

got marbury to play defense, got lee more playing time, got eddy to foul less but calls crappy plays at the end of games. overall he is better than what we have had the last 5 years.

I think he is a good motivation guy, also pretty decent game prep. He is really bad at end game situations, and I don't think he is good at making in game adjustments. His rotations are somewhat questionable, but there were a lot of injuries, so that might have affected things.

Overall I think he is average. Better than a lot of guys, but also worse than a lot too.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Pretty much my assessment as well. I didn't like his lineups to start the 1st and 3rd qtrs. I HATED his end of qtr play calling. What was the idea of all those Iso's? Some of his plays did work tho. The Lee tip in and the Curry 3 were loads of fun.

Overall I think he was a good motivator and got guys to play for him. I think they looked like a real team last year and that was a big improvement in my view. People tend to forget how many close games we lost and how many times this team fought to get back into games. I think they stayed united even after the brawl and the injuries, when the media predicted the team would spiral out of control. We may not have won games, but they played hard.

He admitted that he needed to tighten up his rotations and stick with them longer and I expect he'll be a lot less inclined to play everyone this year. He should pick his top guys and stick to that for the most part.

I think everyone summed it up. He is a good motivator and can prepare a team for a game. He can be creative with his offense but I would not call him a genius on offense or defense. His in game adjustments and end game play calling need work, but I am hopeful that he improves as our players improve and he gets a better understanding of what they can do. Overall, he is the best coach for us at the moment. We will see how far he can take us.

IT is good motivator for individuals and he can use players on offense very well.
He is player not a coach at all.
He has no clue how to change the complexion of the game, tempo, much-upps, when to call time, how to run plays, who should start and who should come from the bench and when.
He is not pushing team play defence, play hard, and play team ball.
He is probably one of 10 worst coaches in the league.

Isiah is a BAD COACH.

He's a good evaluator of talent, and players like him.......

Hmm, sounds like he should be a player agent.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

I think he is a good mid level coach. By mid-level I mean, he is good enough to take a mediocre team and turn them around, good enough for a few playoff appearances maybe even some series wins. I don't think he is the guy that can put you over the edge like a Riley, Phil, Nelson, Brown (puts you over the top when you already have a good team), etc.

I think he is still learning the coaching aspect of the game. He constantly says that he always talks with his former coaches Chuck Daily and I believe Bob Knight (correct me if im wrong) for advice and mentoring. NOt a bad group to go to for advice. It think his Iso plays at the end of the game comes from him being a great player/scorer. My guess is the ball used to be in his hands at the end of the game, he was a great offensive threat but also knew when to pass. I think he thinks crawford has that ability and indeed he does, but still needs some improvement. I think he is a coach that has the respect of his players, but not of other coaches\analysts. He was fired in IND after they started showing progress.

Jury is still out. I think there's a lot of fundamental negatives... but he does have the player's trust, which is a big positive. I'm willing to give him another year before making a judgment on his coaching.
