Martin has wrote that Scott layden was pretty ggod in his picks as a GM. He latered kind of cleared that comment up with his Utah picks. Ok isnt this the same Layden that has drafted Luther Wright??? or is it a different Scott Williams. Is it the Chicken or the EGG, I am confused??

Layden has been good... at one thing... completely ruining the franchise... while he collects his 4.5MM a year.

The man should be incarcerated.

Weis wasn't drafted by Layden ... that was Ed Tapscott under Grunfeld. Layden does have a good track record. He hasn't been good with the Knicks, and his Free Agent signings are horrible. The deal for Dice made sense at the time... you can't predict his knee was going to do that (most league GM's liked the deal.. calling it a no-brainer)... Milos was an excellent pick and a tradeable asset. You could probably get a late lottery pick... 11,12,13 or 14 for him. To say he is a horrible drafter is inaccurate. Ares... the knicks sucking makes you happy?

I don't think Layden understands basketball. Was he a player before or is he just riding his old mans coattails. Yeah he is the one who took on Wright and many others that have failed. I'm not gonna blame him totally one day he is gonna make the right move one day it will just happen by accident. I'm praying the Knicks keep the pick but that is only going to happen if they land in the top three. I'm guessing on a draft day trade again I just hope he doesn't trade for damaged goods. I really hate the fact the Knicks want to build by trades and fa signing sometime the true leaders come from the draft a homegrown superstar is a must. NBA is a top heavy league and without a superstar the calls and big time tv don't come calling.

Layden is your classic scout promoted to GM who is in over his head from what it seems right now. He make those picks with Utah with late picks, which IMO was not that hard since those picks are not expected to be factors, and all he had to do was add a piece here and there to play with two great players in malone and stockton and he was safe, basically he was in a position that was dummy proof, just get them some help with late 1st round and second round picks hope they can contribute and don't screw with any thing else..

Now with the knicks he has a major reconstruction product somewhat and he has no clue, he has the pressure of drafting with high picks that are expected to contribute, this requires good GM skills and good talent evaluating... so far Layden has not shown that..

So far he sucks!!!

Layden is terrible. Even if you ignore his bad trades, poor draft choices, and Norman Osborne/Green Goblin haircut, he brings absolutely zero excitement to the club. He doesn't look like he really gives a damn about the team.

I want executives who look like they enjoy life, who truly get excited about basketball. If we're going to have a crappy GM, we should have a crappy GM who gets red in the face, yells at the press, and slams his fist on a podium in defiance of his incompetence, someone who drinks too much, hits his scouts, or wanders into a press conference with no pants on. Layden shows fear at all times. If he were in the joint, he'd be walking funny. He doesn't have any fight in him. His moves in Utah were uninspired and did not bring the Jazz a championship. That team was always competitive because of the two guys Layden DIDN'T bring in.

I accept that we have a bad GM. Fine. Give us a bad GM with some cajones, someone who actually gives a crap about how lame the team is. Is that too much to ask for? Yes, it is, because the corporate douche bags and their army of empty suits have too much power in this world, and they have taken over the Knicks. A bunch of yes-men working for a fading corporation that can't do anything right. They can all lick my left one.

Malone, Stockton, Dell Curry, Shandon Anderson (at #54), Ostertag (at #28), Kirilenko, Byron Russell (#45), Milos Vujanic ... he was responsible for all these guys... to say he's a bad drafter is innaccurate. To say he's great is innacurate. He's at least competent at the draft. He is over his head when it comes to Free-Agency. I would rather have someone else as GM... but would it really matter with this "no re-building" crap we hear? Dolan is worse by far.

When Stockan and malone were Drafted, that was joint decisions from Laydens (dad and son) Checketts, and Miller. but staying in at least the last DECADE, Giving him credit for picking Anderson 54th???? Anderson is all star or something?? Anderson is about a 54th pick type of player. i guess Layden loves his own pick so much he takes on there crazy contract. lol

Scott started as the Utah GM in 1998, but played a big part in drafting Stockton and Malone as he was Director of Player Personnel at the time. Try and compare the past NY GMs picks to Layden and you will see that Layden out preformed the Knick GMs by a large margin.

Seriously, when have the Knicks ever drafted well?

How many other #54 picks ever lasted in the NBA as long as Shandon has?

andrew thats like saying compare the performance of a hyundai to a hugo. The previous knicks Gm's have been terrible agreed, but that doesn't give a free pass to Scott.

I dunno good question A.mason wasn't he and Starks un drafted, those are two knick players that have been around and have had better careers than S.anderson. But your questions shows the inept, quality of gm's not the superior skills of S. anderson. A gem is Nick van exel, wasn't he picked up in the second round. he is a former all star that can Dominate a playoff SERIES. A gm deserves credit for something like that, not for getting a guy that on his best day in the nba can get 20 but usually get 6-10 pts, in a non descript fashion. Come on Andrew, ostertag?? ostertag
