The Heat concluded its nearly month-long search for a veteran point guard Friday when it agreed to terms with guard Smush Parker, two sources said. Parker started most of the past two years for the Lakers before losing his starting job late last season.
Parker, 26, is believed to have agreed to a two-year contract for a portion of the Heat's $5.35 million mid-level exception. The deal is contingent on Parker passing a physical on Monday.

It is. Not a major move, but a solid one, for sure. For whatever reason, Smush really clashed in LA and the Lakers had zero interest in resigning him, even if they could've gotten him back for the minimum. Surprising, since I though he was pretty good for the Lakers.

Lakers have both Farmar and Crittenton on their roster and they just took on Fisher.
True, but this was talked about the day after the Lakers season ended, that the Lakers and Jackson, under no circumstances, wanted Smush back. Certainly, the return of Fisher made that a no brainer, anyway.

Phil Jackson will sell out on a point guard in a heartbeat if the point guard doesn't perform a serf's duty out on the perimeter strictly making bail out shots due to BLOWBE performing Ringley Barnum and Bailey's Circus with the shot clock. Basically you have to be a flunkie in his system otherwise it's your fault not his. He'd also call out Smush's and Sasha's defense in the media but give KOME free passes. Seriously what marginal player has Phil Jackson made better?

I thought Knight was a better fit for them. Lakers have both Farmar and Crittenton on their roster and they just took on Fisher.
No Smush was a better fit. He can do everything Brevin can do except is slightly less than a pure point. But there are plenty of things Brevin can't do that Smush can do. Not to mention Smush is younger and BY A WIDE MARGIN more athletic.

In what sense it says he got a portion of the (MLE $5.35mil). Do you know what that portion is? What if it's $2.5mil?

I totally disagree about Parker doing what Knight can do. Parker is not a pure point guard and by a wide margin. Parker is indeed a far superior athlete but Knight is also a much better defender than Parker.

Smush and Brevin avg the same amount of stls last yr while Smush blocked more shots. Yes Brevin is the better setup man but Smush beats him out in few other important categories.

I know how we often say on here that stats aren't the entire story but I just can't see how Smush fits that team better. Unless you are looking for Parker to replace Kapono's outside shooting.

I think Brevin is clearly the better player, but I think True has a good point. Smush's assists were way down because Kobe dominates the ball. There would be a similar situation in Miami with Wade. So, you want a point guard that doesn't need to be the one with the most touches, in order to be successful. With that, Smush could be the better choice. But I certainly agree that Brevin Knight is the better player.

No Brevin is the better point guard Smush is the better player. One of the main things that hurt Mimai other than injuries and age was their lack of athleticism and the Bulls exposed them. Smush is a big guard with plenty of athleticism, who can help stretch their offense, start and finish fast breaks, adds versatility in their backcourt he can play point and off guard. From what I'm hearing Miami is leaving the door open for the possiblity to bring Payton back for one last season, which will provide further depth if he isn't retiring. If they can stay healthy and hungry they are title contenders.
