this may seem like a stupid question to ask about an NBA power forward, but since we traded for zach randolph i've watched a bunch of his highlight reels and stuff. he's a talented scorer indeed, but something i didn't see was any sort of rim-rattling dunk. i looked for images on Google, and the best one i found that suggests that he can get up high enough to dunk was this:

this isn't a reflection on how good a player he is at all. if he can score 23 ppg in the West without dunking, great. i'm just curious if there's any evidence out there (youtube, pic, whatever) that proves that he can. anyone have some time on their hands?

He can for sure but for a guy his height with his wing span he doesnt dunk much.

He seems to be a below the rim, wily scorer in the low post not unlike LJ as a Knick. My guess is that he could get up high enough to dunk if he wasn't seriously challenged by a defense, but that he probably can't dunk strong enough that it would really give him an advantage over just going for a layup.

Some people keep wanting to make like he is another Curry. He isnt. I think like 59% of Zachs shots are clasified as jump shots and like 38% as close shots. 1% are classified as dunks. Not that all these stats are 100% accurate.

Curry has around 60% close in and 14% classified as dunks. 79% are classified as inside.

oh i agree it doesn't matter. but i want to know if he can or not. and if there's evidence of it, in a highlight reel i didn't see or images not on the first half-dozen pages of Google.

If it doesn't matter then why do you care?

Actually I think in todays game it does matter to a certain degree if your center and pfs can finish above the rim. It doesnt mean its the most important thing but you do want them to have that ability.

His game smooth enough that he does not have to dunk. His footwork is probably one of the best in the NBA. I rather have a guy with solid offensive moves than Stromile Swift or a Chris Anderson.

No just because Zach scores some inside doesnt make him like Curry with a jumpshot.

Curry plays above the rim. Zach doesnt.

He has very good footwork and he is a good slasher to the rim for a big.

I think his lack of dunks is more about his lack of lift which is strange because he is a fairly quick jumper.

But is it a *meaningful* difference if Zach's low post points come from shooting and Eddy's from dunking? Does it in any way affect the game?

Actually Curry always plays below the rim when the team needs him to box out and get a crucial rebound....

You need to do it on both sides of the floor to be noted as an above the rim player

We will get plenty of dunks from Curry, Dlee and Balk.

Zach isn't a dunker. He doesn't explode off the ground like that. I'm sure he can dunk, but from the 82games stats it looks like he almost never does.
can Zach Randolph dunk?
