So yeah, most of you have seen this inteview with Spike Lee before. It's at the draft, and your boy Morris is clearly inebriated.

But early in the interview, Spike's rattling off the knicks he's fond of, and he expresses some optimism over Dan Dickau's game. Except it comes out as "I like Dick." Gus Johnson notices it, and says "pause".

Now for the unindoctrinated, "pause" is a New York/East Coast term that you use to point out that someone has inadvertantly said something off-color, in this case rampantly homosexual. Once again, no matter how mainstream he sounds, Gus Johnson flashes his ghetto creditials.

Of course, all Spike would have had to say was "no homo" after the comment, but that's another story.

his energy level and enthusiasm is good in doses, but it's too overbearing (for me) for 2.5 hours 2-3 times a week for a regular season game.

in the tournament, the stakes are much higher and the emotion level escalates, but during a februrary home game vs. the sixers, he still maintains that same energy level.

People just love to hate anything to do with the KNicks. Gus is the man this guy lives and dies with each NYK play and you guys don't like it man I love every bit of his calling because he feels like the NYK fans do. Who remembers the Crawford play in Denver I hadn't heard a NYK announcer feel that way about a shot in sometime.

i think folks are just saying that Gus would do better if he tempered himself once in a while. Dude is a homer all the time.

Mart, that's just foolish. He is who is. It's probably why he got his job.

He's a homer, and it seems pretty genuine. If it's "over the top" for your taste, fine. But I doubt he's worried about "doing better". He's doing just fine being himself.

I guess Mike Breen is fine being himself then also when he's calling the games. I guess all color commentators are genuine and good. We should have no complaints.

I like Gus when he calls boxing too.

Gus is just a good announcer. He actually knows guys personally. All sports.

He just seems like a really cool guy. He is a ny guy. You gotta respect his love. He's from Detroit too. He gives a great interview too. He's the freakin man.

Nah, you're missing the point. Martin said Gus would "do better." What I think he meant is that he'd "like Gus better" if he toned down some of his enthusiasm. You can complain all you want if you don't like Gus. I mean, it's kinda girlish to be a complainer, but hey...
