Okay, feel free to bash it.

Jerome James and Jared Jeffries for Kenyon Martin

ID: 4100319

Why? Its almost a 3 for 1, as Kenyon would likely be IR'd for a good portion of next season. Neither Jeffries or James is gonna play much anyway. The upside is if Kenyon does rehab, he's actually a valuable player on a team that lacks front court D. That might be next season, but that's ok with me.

Denver gets healthy bodies that they can throw out there and gets rid of a malcontent. They also save about $10 mil in 2010-2011.

We shed to useless overpaid players and consolidate it into one contract. Frees rosters space for now, gives us a potentially useful player later. For those that are hoping about cap space, hear this out. Kenyon is an ending contract in 2010-2011, which might be more valuable than true cap space for all the FA's that come out that year, b/c we'd have excellent trading chips for sign and trade deals (between Kenyon and Zach).

If Kenyon stays hurt and has to retire- well, what exactly were we getting from Jeffries and James anyway? And who knows, maybe its simpler/ more cost effective to negotiate a buyout for Kenyon than doing it for the other 2

Anyway silly idea. Maybe there's a better guy out there that we could make this kind of trade for. Who knows.

This deal could get more interesting if Denver tossed a few unprotected number ones our way.

Seriously- not a bad idea.

I'd want to make it a full 3 for one type scenario- don't know if we have any other bad contracts we could send their way.

Just did try this- JJ1 & JJ2 & Crawford to Denver for Martin & Camby.

And then my favorite to follow this up- Curry to Dallas for Josh Howard.

Good creative idea. I like it. It's something Denver might actually consider given the bit of early cap relief and the benefit of having Jeffries to add to their depth chart. On the other hand the benefits might be too marginal to get them to bite. But it'd be worth a shot and seems plausible. Neither the Knicks nor the Nuggets could get much better on the market for those respective pieces.

I wonder if we couldn't trade JJ2 and the two expirings (Jones/Dickau) for Jason Williams' expiring deal -that's a clean 3 for 1 right there.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

You could try to give them someone like Nate and ask them for a pick in addition to Martin. Maybe a protected first, a second, two seconds...the right to swap picks.

JJ2 is a hard sell for anyone with 4 years and all the dollars left on his deal. They're not gonna give up an expiring for that.

I guess the best we're going to do then is to trade the same group for a player with 2 years left.

3 for 1, 4 for 1...it's hard to say with Jerome.

I dunno man- I still think JJ2 might have perceived value in the league- I mean we got him for only a few more million than washington was going to give him.

I think a GM out there who likes him and his style of play can look at the injury and the crowded roster we had last year and believe a new team might help him perform to expecations.

True, but does $10 mil make a up the difference? I think its a pretty compelling argument for Denver to make such a deal, especially since Kenyon has become a little malcontented down there...

you know i would love KMart to join this team... i've always loved the way he played the game & the attitude he brings to the table... that's 1 albatross contract i wouldn't mind taking on in the right deal... but i don't see us getting him for 2 of our worst players, & now w/the addition of the biggest albatross of them all, Zach Randolph, where would that leave David Lee if you traded for KMart?

if you made the deal Malik & maybe Jefferies, i can see DEN maybe giving it more consideration due to the increased cap space that they would get in the process... i think we would also probably have to include 1 of our young players like Morris, Chandler, Nate or Mardy realistically speaking... would be interesting to see how Nate or Mardy handled Melo & JR during their 1st team practice.

i'm not sure it's a realistic option for us anymore now that we've cast our lot with Zach... Isiah's going to have to live or die w/him on this team until 2010 at the very least IMO.

sounds like you rather have k-mart vs. randolph on the knicks. That would be a horrible decision. I'm glad you're not the gm of the knicks.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

What's the point? They're getting useless players in return. If KMart plays 3 minutes a season until his contract is done, he will have had more impact than Jared Jeffries and Jerome James have had in their entire stays in New York. They're virtually worthless to a team. For a chance at K-Mart returning, a team is going to want more salary relief than that and a player they can use, not two useless players.

I'd rather give up a little talent to be able to clear dollars and roster space in a trade like this.

New York Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Randolph Morris

6-11 C from Kentucky
0.8 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.2 apg in 8.6 minutes
Dan Dickau
6-0 PG from Gonzaga
3.3 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 1.4 apg in 9.0 minutes
Jared Jeffries
6-11 SF from Indiana
4.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 23.8 minutes
Incoming
Jason Williams

6-1 PG from Florida
10.9 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 5.3 apg in 30.6 minutes

It's really hard to figure out how Isiah is going to thin out the roster. When can Dikau and Jones be traded?

The problem is I think giving up on our young guys might come back to haunt us and thus I would be hesitant to trade them for marginal talent when we don't even know how good some may become yet.

Morris could be a legit talent. What would we do with Jason Williams? K-Mart is damaged goods. No thanks. I would not trade any of our young players unless we are getting a legit star player that we really need.

We would do nothing with J Williams, that's the beauty of it. He would be gone at the end of the year. Hey maybe he can come in for a few minutes.
