Blazers Buy Out Francis
July 11, 2007 - 1:11 am
Newsday -
The Trail Blazers have bought out point guard Steve Francis, who was acquired from the Knicks along with Channing Frye in a trade that sent Zach Randolph to New York.

Under the terms of the agreement, Francis will take more than $30 million from the remaining amount left on his contract.

"This was the definition of a win-win situation with Isiah and the Knicks getting Zach Randolph and Steve being the ultimate beneficiary in being bought out," Francis' agent Jeff Fried said.

Francis will become an unrestricted free agent in seven days. Teams with which the veteran guard may try to revive his career include the Heat, the Clippers and the Mavericks.

How much was left on his deal? Portland did not save much. Man, Francis must be concerned that he will not be able to sign on for a big contract with another team.

My guess, he heads straight for the Clippers. They need a PG and Francis can team back up with his buddy Mobley.

Clevland should really look into it. Aside from cuttino, the clippers actually could use his services.

Miami has wade so that wouldn't make any sense. They are the same player.

Dallas? Why? They move that ball. Francis holds the ball.

The clippers all the way, lol.

The Zach trade is looking really good right now. Lets hope they can mesh on the floor.

Francis wants Mobley and Mobley wants Francis. Who are the other NBA teams to stand in their way?

Did anyone think 3 years ago that Steve Francis' career would end up turning out like this?

it will be interesting to see who offers him a position, and at what price.

I can't see him getting anywhere near $5m per year from anyone- even for one year.

I even think he won't get offered anything from anyone- who needs a me first, shoot first, pound the ball over turn it over PG?

Not one person is gonna man up? A week ago some of y'all were villifying the Knicks, saying the Knicks had to buy out Francis in the PORTLAND trade .... where are these fools now??

someone pointed it out alrady I forgot who but I just want to restate it:

Ariza and jalens expiring, plus channing and a future second round pick got the knicks zach Randolph, fred Jones, dickau and Nichols.

Isiah is a gangster.

IT is learning. Now if he can improve on his MLE signings, I would start to be happy with his performance.

Edited for accuracy.

Our MLE signings are like a mosquito on the back on an elephant. Insignificant. And not just on the court, but in most any discussion as well. 5 mil wasted when you're 25 mil over the luxury TAX is not something to lose sleep over.

It's certainly not a waste if a guy like Nichols gets cut, or a guy like Matt Carroll who got not long ago by the Knicks because there were no spots on the roster open.

Portland gets about $18M in cap space in 2 years, which they can possibly use on the missing piece to add to their impressive collection of young talent.

They get the malcontent Zach Randolph, as far away from their impressive collection of young talent as possible.

They get a player taken in the mid lottery just 2 years ago, who Isiah said was the best big man in the draft and would have taken with the #1 overall pick.

The Knicks got one of the biggest stat whore losers in the entire NBA. One that guarantess that they'll be capped out for an additional 2 years, at a minimum.
