I think it is very similiar to what Isiah did this year drafting Chandler over Almond. Chandler has lottery potential but lacks the motor skills and already plays balkmans position, and we have q rich.
The knicks don't have one great outside shooter with size and poise, and Almond would have fit a need and slid in nicely.
I'm still trying to figure this one out myself.
Really, if Nate had more discipline to his game he would be worth more than Jack because the kid can score at a high level and should be able to play solid defense (better than he has shown). I think IT is looking to hit the homerun rather than take the safe pick, which is not always a winning strategy. I too wanted Almond and think that he is going to be a good player and probably better than Chandler although it is far too early to tell.
Interestingly though, Frank Isola wrote this about Chandler yesterday after watching him play for about 7 minutes:
On the plus side, first-round pick Wilson Chandler knocked down a few jump shots. Based solely on that seven-minute preview, I want to go on record as being the first Knick writer, fan or executive to nominate Chandler as a Rookie of the Year candidate. Kevin Durant – whom the Knicks face on Monday – consider yourself warned.
I guess we will see tonight.
