Nocioni Agrees To Terms With Chicago
July 6, 2007 - 2:22 pm
Chicago Tribune -

Andres Nocioni has agreed to a five-year contract worth approximately $38 million, keeping the popular forward with the team that vowed to re-sign him.

The contract can't be signed until the free-agent moratorium ends July 11. But general manager John Paxson confirmed a deal is in place.

Sources told the Tribune that the contract includes a team option for a sixth season.

Earlier Friday, Paxson confirmed that the team was optimistic about their chances

i don't know if it was false or nocioni just felt more comfortable with chicago. the gm of memphis went to argentina to talk to him...i don't think you do that without having an offer prepared, no?

next up on paxson's list is possibly signing mikki moore or joe smith on the cheap.

i think joe smith is very underrated for what he brings and how little he'll cost.

I think this is a mistake for the Bulls. They would have been better off trying to go after Darko. Another small player is not their major need.

Darko is going to want more. He could sign for the MLE almost anywhere

Everyone on that bulls team is a hard worker that gives their all, that was a big complaint about eddy who was always dogging it, not playing hard and not taking his job as serious.

I think they have some reservations about Darko being in space at times, I am not sure why the bobcats, hawks and grizzles haven't really made more of a push for the kidd. He would be a nice addition to those teams, even the sonics should get involved

Maybe it wasn't for the money indicated (5 yrs 44 mil seemed like a bit much).

He's gonna be out of the league pretty soon then. He isn't going to get more. I agree his shotblocking is a nice asset, but he was hidden behind the shadows of Dwight Howard and that LeBron/Melo/Bosh/Wade cloud is lingering over him pretty badly and the league certainly has not forgotton about that. He's going to have to sign a small contract and literally prove that he's at least worth the MLE.

If chicago didn't trade away Brand to the clippers, they'd have been in the finals at least last year.

if the magic officially renounce, then s&t is out of the question. which only leaves 2-3 teams that can offer more than the MLE.

panos, jerry krause traded away brand, miller, and artest. that frontcourt could've already won titles by now.

No doubt, tho I'm not sure I can fault them for trading away artest. Not sure he fit their mold of "team first"

What is the difference between withdrawing their qualifier and renouncing?

The Magic are still trying to doa sign and trade with the Sonics and say they want to keep Darko.

they can still do a s&t b/c they still have his rights. the qualifier does not correlate to his rights. they are 2 seperate things. the qualifier is just a one year contract offer so regardless, he can sign for just that amount.

but once they renounce his rights, then the magic and darko have no connections whatsoever...no early bird's rights, can't re-sign with them for the MLE, nothing for a full year.

i see nothing on orlando's roster that seattle would want for paying one year of lewis' contract.

He's a versatile, 2 way player with a good attitude. He's the right kind of player to build with. Good deal.
