1 - if Kobe forces a trade to NY this season or next
2 - if Isiah uses the expiring contracts of Dickau & Jones as part of another package to get an interior defensive presence or shotblocker like a Marcus Camby or Ron Artest

otherwise, all i see for the Knicks this year is another mediocre team that lacks any interior defense that will have no real hope of contending against the better teams in the NBA.

just my opinion

i pretty much know how it's going to go if our team stands pat the way it is now... defensive breakdowns on the interior all season long, more of the pointing of fingers & bickering at each other for missing defensive assignments in the paint, guys not being happy with the amount of touches they're getting, confusion by guys in what roles they're expected to play in this offense, & i'm projecting a regression by Curry rather than furthered progress in his development w/the addition of Zach... they'd be lucky to win 40 games next season IMO

feel free to disagree, but that's how i see it going down.

I would say people getting fired and cut if we lose this season. Mainly Marbury and Isiah. Then we can draft Rose and start over.

You're admitting theres a chance Kobe could force a trade here So what the hecks the difference if he comes here through trade or free agency? I'll tell you what... we get him sooner if we trade for him. And yeah, you like the expiring contracts... but you hate the trade... lol... backtracker.

here is another potential good.

Dolan ok'd this trade and when it doesn't work out (if it doesn't), then Dolan has to fire Isiah.

WOW! All of that huh? Don't you think that's laying it on a bit thick with the negativity? I mean really! We didn't see much of that last year when things were worse. How do you think all of a sudden things will take a turn for the worse when things are better? From what I can see everyone is going to come in AMPED and ready to play. We know Steph is excited. Curry left on a mission to improve. Q i'm sure is gonna do everything he can to finally get healthy. i'm sure that with the way he was playing before his back went on him, he's anxious to have a good season. Jared is said to be working hard and showing signs of improvment. etc. Where exactly do you see all this negative stuff coming from?

The players on this team like each other and the Coach. Adding Zach isn't going to totally change all of that.
I think that if this team get's off to a good start for a change it's gonna be a great year. We know that the roles should be more established than at the start of last year. Guys won't be all confused. All we're doing is plugging Zach into Frye's spot and likely getting better performance. For everyone else things remain the same.

when you take off the rose colored glasses & actually watch a game, you'll see that that sort of thing happened a lot more than you think it did last year... there's a reason why this team only won 33 games last year dude.

Wait, who were we playing at the 4 that was better than Zach defensively last year?

Oh right, Jeff, Lee, and Frye were all bad at defending the 4

The only way we are worse on D is if Curry and Zach can't get back on transition.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

i never said they'd be worse on defense... try not to inject your own interpretations on what i'm saying here... i said their interior defense would be non existent... pretty much the way it was non existent last season... it's sorta hard to be worse than a zero value... but adding nothing to nothing pretty much nets you nothing (defensively speaking)

Whoa.. a lot of name calling there. I am interested in talking about the trade and you keep opening threads about it. Lets keep it about basketball. You made some points that i disagreed with. Why get hostile?

Yeah and a lot of the same things won't be happening this year. Steph and Frye slumped early and Curry hadn't fully emerged to the level of confidence he woud eventually gain. Jeffries was hurt as well and basically the team just didn't play well. The crazy home losses etc. I think those same factors won't be there next season. I think this team will come in much more confident and understanding what they need to do. The 33 wins has NOTHING to do with how they'll play next season. The circumstances that brought about that record won't all be there this time. While some problems remain not all of them do. Also we have to allow for a little internal growth.

The thing about the interior defense is that despite the general opinions about it, this team got killed WAY more by the 3pt shot than by some lack of interior D. It was the perimeter defense that came unglued far too often. But there's another thing that many fail to notice. We came back in a lot of games this year and to do that this team had to at some point play some D. Our main problem was consistent D and starting games with the right level of intensity. We didn't seem to get it until we were down and then we'd step up the effort for a while to get back into the game. We more than anything need a more consistent effort level and focus on D. That coupled with fewer TO's will give us just what we need to win games. IF we can shave 3 pts off of that 100 PPG allowed, that would be great. It's not outside of this teams ability to do either.

when you come out with comments like the following & then get offended when the person you're directing those comments at responds in kind, you expose yourself as a troll trying to incite people into cyclical arguments with little real regard for what they have to say on any particular topic... i've already explained to great detail the problems i have with this trade, & what the conditions would be for me to think it was a step in the right direction.

Be forthright. You backtracked on the trade. You started this thread as a way to state your "new" position that you *could* like this trade if certain things happen down the line. I can understand you wigging out when all your points were refuted. Man up. I'll see you at the game. Check me if you're up for it. Peace y'all.

i have no problem with you being optimistic about next season... i'm telling u the reasons why i happen to think this Zach trade was just the same old type of trade that's hunkered this franchise down with unmanageable cap killing contracts of non impact type players that have kept us from putting together a viable contender for the past several years... you're free to have your own take on it... i really don't know why it's such a problem for some of you to accept that not everyone on this forum shares in the same optimism that you have for this team next year.
