That didn't take long

Vince Carter apparently is keeping Vinsanity in New Jersey.

The Newark Star Ledger is reporting that Carter, who opted out of the final year of his contract which called for a $16.3 million salary next season, has agreed to a four-year, $61.8 million contract with the Nets. The contract with the team holds an option for a fifth year.

The deal will not be official until July 11 when free-agent deals can be signed.

I think they paid too much for Carter. I think they should've considered going in another direction since they have an aging core of Carter and Kidd, but I guess they wanted to keep going. I do think they're improved with the return of Nenad Krstic, the addition of Sean Williams and then they'll have Mile Ilic possibly in the rotation next year. Add that to the dynamic Mikki Moore and who knows. They could still win the division.

that's a ton of money for a guy who doesn't play any defense... not that we can't relate on 4 years $61 million for that type of player.

Carter sells seats. Financially it's not going to hurt them. They couldn't let him go for nothing. They had to re-sign him. I think they should trade him for a PF/C, though.

Only difference is, is fairness, that the Nets NEED his scoring, since they don't get it from many other places. Carter fits their team well because he provides a tremendous scoring punch. Nets also play solid team defense. If the Knicks had signed a guy whose best asset was scoring and doesn't play defense, that would've been a disaster... oh wait.

Carter is an All-Star, can literally win games by himself, and is a ticket draw. Is he overpaid?... yeah he is, is he soft?... yeah he is, does he play defense?... no. Would I have re-signed him?....only if I thought I had a complementary move in the works that I was surely confident of making.

Now that Carter has resigned, he should keep his attention focused on playing basketball and quit the part-time ticket vending gig.

you're right about that... he at least fits a big need on their team... he's highly overpaid, but that team can make up for his defensive deficiencies with their other role players, especially when u consider that he's playing alongside the best defensive G in the game in Jason Kidd.

if we didn't already have Curry & were in sore need of a low post scorer, i'd agree with you... right now, if i could choose between those 2, i'd take Vince, because he offers a go to scorer on the perimeter that we are currently missing

Randolph is versatile. You guys make it seem like he lives 5 feet and in, when in reality he can score of the dribble from 18 feet in. I don't think you realize the player we have.

I don't know anything about the guy, except that he likes to have sex with unconscious women (and who doesn't?). I'm gonna wait until next season to form an opinion.

i realize what he can do... i also realize he doesn't address the biggest needs of our team right now... but hey, what's done is done & we have to move forward... if Isiah wants to make some sense of this deal he needs to make another move like bringing in a star calibre perimeter scorer at the 2 or 3 positions... otherwise it's just another one of his moves that everyone expects a follow up trade to make sense of but never comes & just kills our cap even worse than it was before without netting any real tangible positive results.

No they don't. That's why all of these Knick fans are gonna have to be quiet when the season starts and they see just how versatile he really is. He is NOT Curry. We needed a starting PF next to Curry and we have him. That's gonna make all the other players we have better. Carter is a great player, but I just don't like his game. Over his career he's continually let his defenders off the hook by taking jumpers when he could be much more lethal penetrating. He can shoot, but he's too streaky at times to rely on that like he does. Not that i'd have a problem if we had him, cuz he's a great player. At this point in his career i'd rather have Zach.
Especially in thr playoffs.

just don't complain when guys are penetrating into the lane at will next season & guys are looking at each other with that deer in the headlights look on their faces because no one knows who's supposed to rotate over to cover on help D... but then, you're probably used to that by now & you never complain about anything because Isiah can never do any wrong in your eyes to begin with.

I am basing that on the length of the contracts, age, and the probability that Randolph can get better while Carter is already declining.
