We've heard this rumor before but its seems to be really heating up....

NEW YORK – Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett is close to going to the Phoenix Suns in a monumental three-way trade that would send Phoenix forward Amare Stoudemire to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources said Wednesday.

Atlanta would move the Nos. 3 and 11 picks in Thursday's draft, as well as Zaza Pachulia and Anthony Johnson, to Minnesota.

Minnesota owner Glen Taylor has delivered a mandate to his basketball executives to get a deal done, one league executive said.

Yahoo! Sports has learned that the trade would also save the Hawks from an emerging showdown between the front office and coaching staff over whom to draft with the third pick. The front office and coaching staff had settled on Florida power forward Al Horford, but a faction of the Atlanta Spirit ownership group, with business interests in China, is pushing them to take Yi Jianlian.

The deal hinges on Atlanta general manager Billy Knight saying yes, as well as Hawks ownership, which is mired in lawsuits, being willing to increase payroll. It is believed that star Hawks guard Joe Johnson talked to his former Suns teammate on Wednesday and that the 24-year-old Stoudemire, a first-team All-NBA choice, told him that he'd welcome the trade.

I hope Isiah doesn't trade our 2008 pick unprotected. I hope no one informs him that Kwame is available.

I'd be reluctant if I was the Suns, Amare is 7-8 years younger than KG

If Phoenix does this trade and doesnt win the championship in the next 3 years, they're screwed. Nash isnt a young pup and Garnett has a lot of NBA miles on those legs...I would keep Amare if I was them

Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Amare, Marvin Williams, Josh Childress, if Atlanta was smart they would sign billups for 3 years overpay and just win the eastern conference which they would do

Billups, Claxton
Johnson
J. Smith, Childress
Amare, M. Williams
Williams, Zaza

They would blow us off the floor, i hope they don't do this deal

I wonder how good Amare is without Nash?

How good can KG be with Nash feeding him.

The best PG either had was that Marbury Fella!

ATL can't do better with those picks and Minny gets to do a rebuild.

Good trade.

I thought Suns might be able to do a three way with Boston Moving Marion out and getting KG.

A front line of KG, Amare and Marion is really interesting! THey can just Globetrotter on the NBA!

1) If I was the hawks I would want to trade Josh smith and keep the pacers pick or try and get on ofthe suns picks for Pruitt or the Euro-kid everybody likes

2) Suns have to ake this deal, even though im not sure KG can run all the time. The suns might have to change theirattack alittle.

3) What is the over/under on Mchale still not doing a great job with picks 3, 7, 11.....????

I would take Horford, YI and Jarivs

The Suns have to do this. They have the pieces to go for a championship in the next 3 years and that's what they're going to try to do. Amare is younger but KG is still better and gives them the best chance to get past the Spurs. Plus with Amare's injury history, they aren't willing to bet on him being the franchise player to build around when Nash is gone.

Chad ford brought up a good point:

Don't you think that if the Wolves do the three-way trade that has Kevin Garnett going to the Suns, Amare Stoudemire to the Hawks and the No. 3 and No. 11 picks to the Wolves that it's the final nail in McHale's coffin?

I mean, here's what no one is saying. If Stoudemire is available, why wouldn't the Wolves just take him, instead of routing him to Atlanta for two first round picks. It's Amare Stoudemire!!!!

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

ALSO. the SUNS own the Hawks first rounder next year. If anything, Amare will make the value of that first rounder go way down.

Claxton
Johnson
Williams
Smith
Stoudamire

Thats a contender

PHX is making a risky move trading 24 yr old Amare for 31 yr old Garnett.

Minnesota is in great shape to rebuild.

Not sure moving Amare for KG gets them over that hump. Probably tightens their window more than anything.

Maybe they're wary of his injury history and don't want to rebuild with him as the centerpiece.

With the draft picks, they can control their salary cap and hope to land a big time free agent with a very nice nucleus of lottery picks who are still under their rookie contracts.

I dont like spending other people's money but you would think from the $$$ side it was a deal that was a no-brainer--they have 0 attendance and that will change with this deal.

Their window is the same since it's tied to Nash playing at his current level.

Amare keeps them contending for longer.

Contending with Amare and who? Nash is the reason they're a contender, not Amare.

Very well put. As long as they stayed healthy, I'd pick them to win the championship with KG. KG really deserves this opportunity after all the torture he's gone through in Minnesota.
