Basketball season... the out-door variety is in full bloom. Halfcourt games of 21, or fullcourt runs of 5-on-5 til Nine pm. So give it to us straight...what are your strengths and weaknesses on the Basketball court? Or are you an unstoppable force that cannot be ...uh.. stopped.

So give us at UK your scouting report. I'll go first.

Strengths: In the halfcourt, or as a 3 on 3 player I play on the perimeter and typically take turns as either the playmaker or the jump-shooter. Silky smooth mid range game and range out to the college 3-pt line. Great passer, decent handle. And can take a smaller guy if guarded by one all the way in for a layup. If the game changes and a more physical or taller guy is guarding me, i can adapt to being more of a set-up and put back guy. All-round hustle player who plays the same whether my shots are falling or not.

Weaknesses: If the game is very physical, my forays to the hoop usually end in misses and no-foul called (you can't really call foul in a pick-up game unless there's blood). From the outside my game takes a dip when i'm not on my home court. At home, i'm automatic.. anywhere else and it takes me time to acclimate .. sorta feel like Channing Frye looked last year at times when offensively I get shut down and must instead be more of a hustle player. Which I can do (see above).

Best case scenario: Manu Ginobili
(some have compared me to)
Worst case scenario: Channing Frye
(except i can do some other things when my shots off)

Areas to improve: The three-pt line is ultimately where i'll have to make my money as i get older. Let those young bucks fight it out down low... i'll conserve my energy as i get older by developing more range. Any suggestions on how to go about adding an extra couple feet to your shooting zone?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Strengths: Tenacious defender. Does all the little things to help a team win. Hustles all the time. Surprising rebounder & shotblocker for his size. Good defensive instincts.

Weaknesses: Poor handle. Needs to develop more consistency on his jumpshot. Can get muscled easily down low.

NBA Comparison: Renaldo Balkman

Strenghts
Was a great driver to the hoop, especially on the fast break! Very athletic, with long sprints. Learned to move laterally around most defenders. Dipped and spun under defenders in the air, even doing full body turns to throw off defenders. They never knew were I was coming from or where I was going to go. Good passer on the move, but only if the assist went down (swish!) from the fellows! We used to go anywhere from 3 on 3 to 5 on 5 and well into 10:pm, 11:pm. One night we played until about 1:00 am and then someone called the police. We'd go late, or until someone turned an ankle on the pave. It was great! My best game ever, I hit about 15 in a row giant rainbow shots from about 30 to 40 feet out. Banked everyone one of them. Don't know how that happened, but I was hot that night. And very sore the next morning. I also started to develop into a pretty good rebounder. I studied Rodman and did the 'standing still jump' instead of the 'take a step and then jump' style. Try it, you'd be amazed how fast you can get to a ball and how far you can move, while amazed that no one else is there.

Weaknesses
On the other hand, on the long shots, I wasn't consistent. Had to take it on the inside most of the time and work around, in which case they ganged up on me. Wasn't a great handler, but I survived. Wasn't very good at the free throw line, not until later in my street career. In standing positions, wasn't a very high jumper, so didn't get too many blocks. I am an average just over 6'. On the D, I was decent. Kept the feet in front the best I could, but had to be ready to get a hand in the jumpers face. I was a good boxing out on rebouding, but weak agaisnt stronger guys.

Best and Worst Case Scenarios
I won't compare myself to anyone but myself. Despite my displeasure of jordan as a bull, I always like his style and tried to use the same kinds of creativity, but only to my ability. I credit any success to it.

Final Notes
Man' in some of those games, we argued more than we played over foul calls. I don't play anymore, but it was fun and I played for a couple decades, either in some summer league, but mostly street. My last game was when I was in chicago. I always liked the film 'Cooley High' and went to the court that they shot the basketball scene in. It's still there. I wanted to end it there. I was a lot, lot slower this time, but it's a nice memory to keep. I still have the ball to. Thanks for this thread. That was memorable!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Strengths: Above average defender. Box out on the weak side good. Good 15-18 foot Tim Duncan Jumpshot ala bank shot and the sweet spot. Decent handle and have a baby fadeway jumper.
Weaknesses: Not a strong finish on a drive. Too short a poor man Nate Robinson with no ups like him.
NBA Comparison: Earl Boykins I would say.

Strengths: Decent Ball handling Playmaker. Athletic. Deceptive speed. Very Strong. Stutter step driving to basket lay-ups and a 7 foot back to the basket hook shot( always goes in) are my go to moves. 15 footer is water.

Weakness Bad Defense (lateral movements due to a high school knee injury), Jumpshot is non existent pass 15 feet, turnover prone

NBA Comparison Broke man's Marbury

Strengths:
Loves the game of basketball. Has a decent handle with the confidence to take his man off the dribble. Good slasher and can finish with either hand. Ability to finish in traffic and after contact. Has a decent tear drop shot. Shooting range goes out to 15ft. Can shoot off the dribble or around screens. Loves to pass and will let it fly if he sees a seem. Is not afraid to fail and will not back down from a challenge.

Weakness:
Gets mad too quickly if someone is disrespectful to people or the game of basketball. Has lost a step due to left acl surgery. Is a certified fat ass, so there is a conditioning problem. Shooting touch can be streaky depending on the amount of time between the times he can get out to ball. Arthritis in the knee plays a big part in how well he plays. Never played organized ball. Self made basketball player receiving no formal training.

Best case scenerio: stephon marbury cuz that how I used to play. Drive and dish. That was my game back in the day. Nobody could stop me from driving and if you did I was dishing a dime.

Worst case:
Mark Jackson cuz now I'm slower and I can't explode anymore. I post up more and tend to look for the outside shot too often.

what you see in that thread is the saddest collection of basketball players on the face of the earth.

Strengths: Jumpshot is ridiculous. I could talk about it all day but you really have to experience it to understand how ridiculous it is. 22 feet and in, don't give me an inch. I will not miss. Not braggin, just preaching the gospel. Often compared to Allan Houston in terms of shot and demeanor. Players see me as undersized but are often shocked by how physical, strong and dirty I can be. Lost 8 steps but can still get my shot whenever I want. Offense not a problem.

Weaknesses: I used to be quick and athletic. Now after 3 ankle surgeries, one knee surgery, and old age weight gain, my lack of height is a hindrance. The slight limp that I walk with could be a result of the surgeries, old age or because I'm just cool like dat. Had to totally revamp my game and can't do anything I used to be able to. Now I prefer to play in co-rec leagues and swat the shots of 5-0 tall unathletic women. Defense: Once I had a kid defense lost it's importance to me. Rebounding: Once I had a kid rebounding lost it's importance to me. I prefer to find a good PG and then just come off screens all day. It's easier on the ankles and knees and means I don't have to take an ice bath afterwards.

Player Comparison: In the old days they used to call me "Timmy" (Hardaway)/"Mugsy" (Bogues). But now I have completely morphed into the player who's game I hated most: Allan HOuston

Play like Kobe in his prime.

Worst Case Scenario
Play like Kobe during the sex case (still NASTY)

Stats: 21, SDSU student, 6'1 180

strenghts

fancy dribbler...good outside shooter. great playmaker...very positive, not the smart-ass-pickup-guy one sees at every game.

weaknesses

bad knee...not quick, often gets by man but the defender can easily make up ground. Suspect midrange jumper. Not at all physical: Even if the paint was laced with $100 bills, he will not go near it.

Strengths: Rock solid mid range shooter, although it didn't show at the get together. Good passer from just about anywhere on the court. Rarely turns the ball over. Hustles. Plays hard on both ends, and will grab boards and plays decent defense. Good post game. Decent at taking a dribble or 2 and pulling up. Good at setting screens and coming off screens. Big and strong and a good runner and can play all day long. Likes taking big shots.

Weaknesses: No explosiveness whatsoever. Not quick with the ball and needs to rely on moves which may or may not work, in order to drive to the basket. Not a great ball handler. Can hold my own, but that's it. And while I try my absolute hardest on defense, I still struggle against real explosive people and real athletic people who are actually good.

Comparison? No fudgin' clue.
