I'd rather give up Curry and hold on to Lee and one of the picks. Maybe get Bynum back.

So maybe something like:

Curry, Crawford, Robinson, Frye and a future no.1 (maybe add this year's pick)

for

Kobe, Bynum

Actually the crucial thing is if Kobe comes out and says he will only accept a trade to NY. That gives us bargaining leverage. If Kobe says he will got to a few teams we'll have give up the house.

I would think LA could get a better deal elsewhere for Kobe. And why would Kobe come here if he is looking to win now? It just doesn't make sense.

Kobe has a no-trade clause and can waive a trade to any destination that is not to his liking- no matter how good a deal it is for LA. Kobe says he wants to win now, but he also keeps saying he wants to play in NY. Those are clearly at odds, but we'll see what it is he ultimately wants.

In the east with Kobe Marbury Curry alone we should win the east.

After that trade the knicks roster:

Pf:Morris/Jared/??
Sf:Q / balkman/C :curry/big game
PG:marbs/Collins
Sg:kobe/Francis

Kobe and curry could possibly get that team in the playoffs but the knicks still lack enough shooters and real tougness inside.

With a 2 man game of kobe and curry, the knicks would be like san Antonio east cuz all they would need to do is plug and play the right cheap role players and you got a dynasty on your hands.

Kobe is the shooter. Kobe would have to change his philosophy if he wants to win anywhere and be more of a team player. Kobe and Marbs would clash if Kobe wanted to dominate the ball at all times.

Marbs
Kobe
Balkman/Jeffries
Morris/whoever
Curry/James

If James can get to the finals in the East, so can Kobe on the knicks.

Shaq is done for (based on this season). Kobe is better than Wade. Pistons are in decline - Billups got ousted by the cavs crappy pgs. This should be interesting.

He is rumored to like either NY or Chicago.....there is no way we can match anything Chicago offers.

Chicago may be less likely to decide they want throw the house at Kobe when they have some other really good trade candidates they could also potentially acquire at cheaper cost.

Very interesting indeed.

If the lakers are set of keeping bynum they need to let kobe go. The knicks have proven youth that can fit over there. The lakers would be ahead of the curve still with a promising future.

If you really look at it marbs has been in training to play with a dude like kobe. Isiah wants him off the ball. He will surely have to keep playing like he did last season to make it work. Curry could still be the focal point, but having kobe chuck up shots instead of craw is money in the bank.

Knicks would need to make some vet signings. I'm kinda excited about this idea now.

I hate Kobe but the guy is the most entertaining player to watch in the league. He alone would make the Knicks 3 times more entertaining to watch than the past 2-3 years. And they'd be one of the most competetive teams in the East.

We'd most likely be going with Kelvin Cato and Jerome James at PF. Maybe even Jeffries.

It would work, because when you add a TOP talent like Kobe all you need is a couple of really good players alongside him. Curry an Steph are certainly good enough to support him. Neither would be scared to shoot or lack for ability to get it done. Steph and Curry are bonafide scorers that he can setup if he doesn't have the shot. A guy like Balkman would thrive playing with Kobe. I don't see a team in the East that woud be able to stop the Knicks if they got Kobe. We'd spread teams too thin defensively. Curry would get prime position just about every play. Kobe would have much more freedom to operate as well.

As much as people hate on Curry, HE'S the part that makes it all work if Kobe came here. He's so hard to deal with inside that it's a bit like having Shaq again. NO ONE in the East can stop Curry and with Kobe on the floor that would make it even worse. The only thing we'd need is for Curry to continue to improve on his passing. I know he'd end up with more assists, cuz Kobe won't pass up an open shot and he's more likely to finish a feed on a cut to the basket. This is all fantasy at this point, but I can see it working.

If you did get kobe for that package--you use the split MLE to bring in some vets--like
PF Joe Smith 3 years 10mm
PG Jaques Vaughn 2 years 4mm
and buy a pick from Phoenix and raft sean williams
C-Curry
F-Smith
F Blackman
G Kobe
G Starbury
C/F Williams Morris
F Jefferies
F/G Richardson
G Collins
G Vaughn

We used the MLE on Ro Blackman? I know we need shooters, but I didn't know we were that desparate!

If I can't pull one of those picks off the table (2009 #1) then, I'd try to sub Craw for Francis. This trade leaves really thin at PF. I would still try to purchase one of the Suns first round picks and hope to take Sean Williams.

Even if we got Kobe we'd still have a ways to go to be a quality team. It's not as simple as just having a few offensive powerhouses in Kobe, Curry, and Marbs. For one thing, trading Lee would substantially weaken team rebounding, which was one of the only bright spots last season. Shooting %s might go up, but if offensive rebounding nosedives and if the turnover situation doesn't get a lot better, then in total the gains on offense are limited.

And of course getting Kobe doesn't do a whole lot to address the defense. Again, losing Lee hurts here as it knocks us down a few notches in the only part of the defensive game we were above average at, which is defensive rebounding.

Curry won't get many touches with Kobe and Marbury on the team. He'd probably become a 14 PPG liability.

That is entirely too much to part with for a player that isn't going to get the Knicks to the Finals. It's almost absurd.
