Which will you watch tonight? Or are you going to record the Sopranos like LeBron? I think I'll watch the Sopranos, then check in on the game afterward.

should be a poll. I bet Sopranos wins hand down in all states other than Ohio and Texas

So did Tony get shot or what? That's my interpretation.

doesn't matter what happened to tony soprano.

that show had no direction for 4+ seasons. i just wanted it to end already b/c the producers, directors, and writers really had no idea where they were going with any of it - hence all the dropped storylines throughout the years.

it ended just like it should've, with everybody saying wtf, i just wasted $13/month for hbo for 10 years for that nonsense?

brilliant marketing by hbo. fans were sold on the first two seasons. then tony's mom died in real life and the producers had no clue where to go from there (b/c she was just as big as tony in the story telling). then hbo's marketing department did a brilliant job of keeping the show off the air as long as it could while pretty much fooling all of us that the show was going somewhere...when it really didn't.

but i will venture a guess and say everyone died. too many suspicious characters in the place, the dude at the counter, the trucker, and the 2 black dudes that walked it.

the anticipation built up UNTIL meadow walked in.

all of them were in the same place and all of them probably got whacked.

Doesn't matter if they get whacked or not, the point is that in that life the clock is always ticking, every noise, every moment, is suspicious or foretelling. Tony will never be able to rest easy until the afterlife, wherein he'll end up in hell and still not be in peace, if you believe in that.

So for the moment life goes on, but in "the life" it's never over.

"We never saw it coming.", just like Bobby said. We just got whacked by Chase. We need to "remember the good times", it was our "journey". When someone gets whacked, they have no choice in the matter. You're there, in the moment and then it all just goes black...like it did for us. I didn't like getting whacked but it is a mob series afterall.

i was reading nj.com and this guy pretty much nails it:

chalsk23 says...

Twice this half-season, Chase gave us Bobby Bacala telling Tony "You probably don't even hear it when it happens huh?" The first time on the lake on the boat in episode 1 and then again in a flashback last week, when T was upstairs in the safehouse with the rifle. The whole show has been through T's eyes and we didn't see his death because he would never have seen his own death, nor heard it coming. The ending was amazing. The only thing we don't know is whether it was the guy going to the bathroom or the guys with the USA hat who looks a lot like David the sporting goods store owner from Season Two (gambles his life away).

and this one adds:

gacboy says...

I advise everyone to watch the last scene closely. Look at the patron in the trucker hat. It was David Scantino (Robert Patrick) from season 2 - the owner of the sporting goods store that Tony busted out and left despondant. He clearly has a reason to do harm Tony, having lost his life to Tony's lifestyle, and he looked awful shifty. Coincidence that he was in the diner at the same time? I think not.

The ending was great. I've been saying to people since last season, "the fitting and perfect end to this show, would be for nothing to happen". Boy, I couldn't have been any bit on. The brilliance of the ending was a slap in the face to all great shows that needed to prove something to the viewers that what they were watching for all those seasons was for something. Chase proved that nothing needs to happen to our main characters for a show to end. The shows end was the continuation of a family. We came into this show in the middle of their lives without any provocation and we leave without any provocation.

Like most episodes of the Sopranos, things go unsettled. We should all be used to this by now. The brilliance of the Russian running off without us knowing his fate was how for four more seasons, we still talk about what happened. The reason Chase decided to kill Adriana off camera was for us to sit around for another two seasons and ponder if Sil really let her go and the gun shot was a warning shot. No matter what Chase has done, he managed to have us fans continue to talk about the outcomes. In a weird way, we became our own creators and writers for this show. Every Monday morning after the show, we concocted new ways for the show to go and dreamed up possibilities to previous show ends.

So, in a way, this ending was not all too uncommon for Chase. He has us on a blog at midnight, many of us just hours away from another grueling week at work, discussing the finale to a show which has captured our imaginations for almost 10 years. I have to say kudos to Chase and crew. As it's been memorable and exciting.

The next Sopranos to be excited for is the release of the DVD so that I can relive this past season and complete my DVD collection. I would hope that, unlike previous DVD releases, Chase and HBO decide to include an extra disc dedicated to outtakes, deleted seasons and alternate endings which were shot to keep everyone guessing.

quite the contraire, i thought carnivale (on hbo) was brilliant...as is "lost" on abc.

if you can explain to me what the past 4 seasons of the show was about, i'd love to hear it.
