Another ridiculous athlete with a terrible work ethic and attitude?

From the Post:
The Knicks own Chicago's 23rd pick and Thomas said he'll be "riskier," feeling he already has a first-rounder from this draft in Randolph Morris. That seemed another hint Thomas has Boston College center Sean Williams, suspended for marijuana smoking, on his radar.

Anyone know about this guy? What do you think?

He's Eddie Griffen part 2 and I don't know why there is a person on this board that wants him. I understand his ability to block shots but he's a problem and he'll be a problem. We have no room for these kinds of players on our roster anymore.

THe main thing is has he continued smoking pot. Most kids try the stuff and I guess he evidently was a little more into it than most. There are people in the league who smoke pot. That is just reality. If he has stopped and tests negative, I see no problem with getting him with our pick. Did he do anything else other than get caught smoking pot?

(IMO smoking pot is better than stealing laptops and people wanted Marcus Williams here).

How many players does it take to cover up for Curry's inabilities?

the whole league smokes lets be honest, your really talking about half and thats a fair estimate. If thats all he did wrong who really cares, he can come in with some energy and block a few shots than why not

Half the league didn't get thrown out of college for smoking weed, but Williams did and you can bet there was more than just 2 instances. Those are probably just the only 2 that were reported because they had enough.

I think Isiah was talking about a talent that would take time to develop. Sean can contribute the first day, he is lotto talent. It's funny it knocked him down so much, considering, as other posters said, that half the league smokes it. It should be more of a qualification than a dis qualifier. Not sure about his work ethic though. If Sean isn't there and we don't address a shooter as a need outside, then we probably take Almond imo. Otherwise expect a high risk project.

This guy has talent whether Curry was here or not. Williams upside is what guys like Briggs go nuts about. A developing 4 player with size and athleticism with a developing post game. How is this about Curry again?

He clashed with the coaching staff and they felt he let down the school. I find it laughable everyone who is getting on the Knicks for thinking about Williams while they went nuts when he passed on Marcus Williams last year. I let Norm Roberts tell you about Marcus Williams trouble at UCONN.

Curry doesn't lift his arms on defense.

The Knicks need a shotblocker to help their porous defense.

Williams is supposed to be a shotblocker.

The Knicks have expressed interest in Williams despite already having Frye, Lee, Jeffries and Balkman.

Williams upside is as a shotblocker. He has a low BB IQ and no developing post game to speak of.

Put it all together and Williams would be brought in to help cover up another of Curry's deficiencies.

Is Sean Williams's game similar to Theo Ratliff's pre-knee issues?

Pass on a Cato type, sign up for a Ratliff type.

Williams' game is very similar to that of Ratliff but Williams is more of an athlete. Williams developed a decent post game this season as well. I wouldn't trust anyone who compares him to Cato even at the college level.

i agree. i think before even inviting him in for a workout, call him up and say, "so what have you been doing with yourself this last year?" if he took getting expelled as a wakeup call and has been working out, keeping in shape and playing where he can, i'd have a look. if he's spent the last couple months getting high in his parents' basement, then he'd be a waste of a pick so no thanks.

Kelvin Cato senior year in college
15th overall pick
11.3 pts 8.4 reb 4.2 blk

Sean Williams senior year in college
projected late first rd pick
12.1 pts 6.9 reb 5.0 blk

I wouldn't trust anyone who continually talks out of his ass.

You are talking out of your ass. Did you watch either Williams or Cato play? What particular game did he remind you of Cato? How did he handle McRoberts in the paint? How did he score his baskets? So again tell me how you think he is like Cato? I wouldn't trust anyone who actually said when asked before a draft. "Other people on this board are more qualified to access college players." Translated, Briggs didn't give his scouting picks yet. Let me know if this isn't something you said. BTW, what player you scouted in the late teens you like better and why? Just curious.

Pat Riley said Sean Williams was one of the best shot blockers he'd ever seen. I wouldn't mind taking him, but I'm not sure he's who Zeke means when he says "risky."
