Knicks Still Interested In Carter
25th May, 2007 - 6:22 am
New York Post -
Despite Vince Carter's disappointing postseason, the Knicks still have interest in pursuing the Nets high-flyer if he becomes a free agent July 1, a source close to Isiah Thomas told The Post.

The Knicks plan to revisit trade discussions they held with the Nets before the Feb. 23 deadline.

"They will do their due diligence with him," the source said of Carter.

The Knicks would have to work out a sign-and-trade agreement with the Nets. The Knicks, however, are wary of Carter's reported interest in getting a 3-year, $60 million deal - which they consider a long-term investment on a 30-year-old on the downhill portion of his career.

Thomas has stated the Knicks are not looking to use their $5 million mid-level exception on a free agent and aren't interested in adding to the payroll and luxury-tax bill.

Before the trade deadline, the Knicks offered the Nets a package of Channing Frye, Malik Rose and Jerome James (the latter two of which own bad contracts for their production) for Carter. The Nets declined, though they like Frye. It is believed they also asked about rookie Renaldo Balkman, who would look great on the fastbreak with Jason Kidd. [READ]

I don't want to trade Frye across the River. But I wouldn't mind Vince. If we could somehow steal the Nets pick(Frye, Nate, Jefferies, Francis-Expiring contract in a few years) for Carter and the #17 pick.

I don't know, I sort of like the idea of Carter coming here but the fact we have to help out NJ irks me.

The 2 year rebuild. It's not about rebuilding in two years, it's all being rebuilt for only 2 years!

Bogus rumor, IMHO.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Brooklyn likes Frye and is asking about Balkman? So, you mean we actually have some youth with value around the league? That’s nice.

We are ready to trade that value for an aged over-paid former all-star who will get us into the playoffs but not truly compete for the long term? Not so nice.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I'm still eying cap space in 2009 and signing Carter would screw that up. Though dropping James' contract in the process would help. What are the chances the Brooklyn Nets take him, though? How 'bout Jared Jeffries?

"They will do their due diligence with him," the source said of Carter.

Hasn't Isiah used this phrase to the press?

I bet this is Isiah himself saying this- and I don't doubt that the knicks would at a minimum see what it would take to get Vince.

If it was Frye & Francis, with Carter's deal only guaranteed out to Francis' length, then I kinda think that is a no brainer.

Carter is on the downside of his career, and its amazing to watch him come up lame with muscle strains- but he gets to the rim, he's strong and a decent shooter from outside.

And, if you can get him without loosing all our youth, then he matches up nicely with Marbury

We had a chance at VC with only having to give up jamal crawford when VC played for the raps.

Now that window has closed, NJ got the best yrs out of VC.

I'll pass unless it's for frye and our #1
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

you're generous- I wouldn't give up our #1 pick unless we were getting theirs back.

Frye and Jamal and that is it. No picks. No Balkman. No Lee. No Mardy. They can add Special Nate if they give us a 1st RD pick.

Here was the deal that the raptors wanted some combination of crawford, thomas, and nazar......

We could have had a starter for that price to go alone with marbury, but instead isiah wanted to keep crawford who sucks, and traded thomas who has good value for a playoff team for nate and an injured player, and we then took nazar an expiring deal and took on a terrible contract for the last picks in the first round, only moving up 3 spots where we were selecting.....

If we got Vince, I'd want him in place of Q or Crawford. Unless the Nets are willing to take a package of Q/Crawford and Frye, I wouldn't bother. Vince is a nice piece, but this team has a lot more needs and Vince isn't going to fix those by himself.

Also it can't be a crazy deal. Any more than an average salary of $12 MM a year is overpaying. I'm willing to do four years at $12 MM per. No more than that.

I could totally see this happening just like the Marbury trade where we give up draft picks and our young players and take back bad contracts. The Knicks need a jersey-seller more than they need wins!

Uhhhhhh it's rumored that Thorn and Ratner have given him a preliminary offer of 3yrs/$45-50mil range and Thorn is thinking he probably wants closer to $20mil/yr. So the $12mil would be way off IMO to get him over here. We don't need nor should we want his soft, overrated, self anyway.

I think the transformation from well reasoned poster to MS, Islefan type pessimist is almost complete. Just need to ratchet up the hysteria a little more and take more personal shots at Isiah... You're almost there tho.

I didn't say he'd take that deal. He probably wouldn't. That's the point. If we have to overpay, I don't want him.

I can see carter as a knick because it fits alot of what New Yorks MO is under Isiah.
Big Money
Fan appeal
Offensive
Chemistry Questions
Playoff talk

Bottom line is Carter would make alot of money for the Garden and we need a small forward. So I could see Frye, 23 pick and filler not involing Francis for Carter and Collins. The knicks will be an average team though for a number reason....... number 3 being the biggest.

Frye, 23th pick, Rose, and Q for 17million(1st year) Carter and Collins.
