yankees=knick circa 2004
no young players
no cohesion
starphucked beyond words
paying a player 1.5mm per start???? who goes home for 5 days after the game[that is the best darn job in the world???]
losing and looking BAD doing it
the mets have been the superior team two years running and will be for a LONG time---yankees will have to try to buy themselves out of it not easy to do
rivera is done
what else to say
it is high it is long the yankees are gone

Mets fans are the worst and most bitter fans in all of sports. Case in point. The Mets are better, enjoy it, stop focusing on the Yankees. Sometimes I think Mets fans get more pleasure out of the Yankees losing than their own team winning. Pathetic.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Briggs no young players??? Cano was an all star last year, Wang was arguably the 2nd best pitcher in the MLB, they're both in their mid-20s. Philip Hughes is the best SP prospect in the MLB, and the Yanks have one of the strongest farm systems right now.

It is May.

By July the rotation will presumably be Clemens/Wang/Mussina/Pettitte/Hughes.

This is why the play the games, the season is long.

No it's not. Why is it Mets fans talk more about the Yankees than their own team? I didn't even know you were a Mets fan until this post since every other time you posted about the Yankees. Why not make a thread about how you're happy with the Mets?

What can I say? Were a well-diversified machine that would've won it all last year if healthy. We have more depth this year and I feel real good about our chances--the karma is there. Yankee hating is in a category by itself. There was a point where I[and probably every Met fan Yankee hater actually did enjoy watching the Yanks win--when David Cone Darryl Strawberry or Doc played--actually when those guys slowly eroded away--so did the Yankees:) Other than that--you have tens-of thousands of Brooklyn born Yankee haters that were born to dislike the Yankee's. Don't take it as a bash--take it as a compliment-it's the way it is:)

Delgado, alou, glavin, pedro are key cogs to the mets. Reyes is the best young player the mets have. David wright is Ok.. don't be fooled, the mets are a win now team, and they are not going to win.....

Well...

While I agree that the Mets are built to *win now*, there's no reason to believe that they won't be just a player or two from being an upper echelon team for the next 5-10 years (barring major injury to a star). I think the Mets have a solid mix of youth and experience.

David Wright & Jose Reyes look like they could be all stars for the next decade, perhaps both future HOF-types, especially if they manage to get rings in the next 3 years (ie early in their careers). Beltran just turned 30, and still has some untapped potential. These 3 alone give the Mets a solid foundation - guys like Green, Alou, and Delgado (at his current level of production) can be acquired fairly easily through free agency or trade. Gomez, a 5-tools prospect, has been producing since his recent call up. We still have the major-league ready 5-tools Milledge hanging out at AAA too.

Perez and Maine look like solid #2 or #3 starters for the next decade, and they're both in the 25/26 range. With the potential offense cogs behind them, they have a chance to win 15+games for the next 5 or so years. We have a number of relatively young, servicable 3-5 starters bouncing between AAA and the majors like Vargas and Sosa. If necessary, rent-an-ace type players can be "bought"...

Yes, Delgado might only have a few more years left, and perhaps he's in decline (he's technically still recovering from quite a bit of off-season surgery). Alou was brought in to fill a specific need. Glavine is pitching at a high level, but could call it a career any time after 300 wins. Pedro has shown a bit of wear and tear. Orlando Hernandez has never been the most healthy player. And certainly Julio Franco can't possibly last forever, can he? But overall, from top to bottom, I think the Mets have a team that's both built to win now and have a strong enough foundation of quality players to remain highly competitive even when the current cast of senior citizens call it a career or move on elsewhere.

You hit the nail on the head. I don't know what Briggs is talking about. The Yankees are injured just like the Knicks were. But they have some young talent in the form of Hughes and some other very good prospects making their way up. Ok, the Yanks do need to focus on youth, but they are not a bad team as constructed. I'd like to see more youth come up in the outfield though.

Wang and Hughes are going to be a deadly 1-2 punch for years to come, barring injuries of course.
Their offense is good enough, just not hitting great these days.

Hmmm... No one seems to be calling for either Torre or Cashman's head. We all know that a $200 million payroll team shouldn't be losing especially without a salary cap. Hmmm....

over the next 5 years, I can see Jeter winning at least 2 more rings... Yanks have one of the best farm systems but most important, A-rod and Jeter are still in their primes, Cano is a baby and they have hughes and wang a legit #2 and possible Ace in Hughes... It is silly for mets fans to say anything right now, over the past 10 years we have 4 rings to toss at the mets. Honestly, why talk trash if you are a met fan, after laying an egg to a obviously inferior team in the cardinals...... Reyes is a possible future HOF player, but way to early to tell. Wright? come on... LOL..

Sorry, Bonn. I missed it. Yeah, I know where you are on Cashman. I remember the debate with Fish about who is worst Thomas or Cashman as GM (I still say Cashman). Cashman assembled the worst bench I seen in quite awhile. LOL, I remember when he called it a big off-season. I knew it was going to be bad but not this bad. Yankees went too nuts when they re-signed a 34 year pitcher who they thought would eventually break down four years ago and now have follow it up with signing a 65 year pitcher to one of the largest contracts in baseball. Are we sure that Dolan didn't buy the Yankkees and it didn't hit the press yet?

They should have fired Joe torre but they didn't and now they are paying the price. Everyone in NY knows he has forgot how to manage a team. Every playoffs they get their ass handed to them and still they come back with Joe Torre. They should have Joe Girardi it would have been a great move and they passed on Lou Pinella crazy. The Yankees are nothing but a poorly managed team, They no longer are managed to be aggressive.
