I'm talking bout legends. Who were the icons of this sport? Where do they rank? Who were simply unguardable? Ahead of their times?

I'm gonna start off with Pistol Pete. The freakin dude averaged 40 plus per game in college. His handle was way ahead of his time, at least on the grand stages. I think he might be one of the baddest basketball players to ever do it and nobody will be able to be as bad or as legendary as him. A lot of his legend is hearsay cuz there really isn't much footage on him and he died so young. the dude was just bad ass.

Wilt Chamberlain with that 50pt/25reb season was always my favorite superman. I remember watching a Celtic game during Russell's second year in the NBA. The announcers were saying he was gonna be a heck of a player once he developed an offensive game. Off topic but too funny not to share.

Kareem and Mikan have to be mentioned.

Mikan was so dominant that he caused several rule changes in the NBA, among them widening the foul lane — known as the "Mikan Rule" — and introducing the shot clock.[2]

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Who was a better scorer? Pistol, or Jordan?

How would Connie Hawkins be viewed today if he got a chance to play in the NBA in his more youthful years?

What if bill Walton didn't have bad ankles? Bill was a bad mofo in college and his first few years with Portland. How bad would he have been?

Who was a better scorer? Pistol, or Jordan? Jordan - no contest

How would Connie Hawkins be viewed today if he got a chance to play in the NBA in his more youthful years? That's a tough one. We can only speculate.

What if bill Walton didn't have bad ankles? Bill was a bad mofo in college and his first few years with Portland. How bad would he have been? Very bad. He did a lot of different things very well.

Don't forget Oscar. He averaged a triple double one season and played great defense.

Connie Hawkins is one of my personal all time favorites. He would be recognized as innovvator as an above the rim player if he was allowed to play in his prime. The sucession of dunkers (IMHO) is Elgin Baylor, Dr J, Dominique, Michael, fill-in-the-rest of todays players. Connie should be recognized after Baylor and before Dr. J.
Several years ago I read his biograrphy FOUL which covers how he grew up in Bed Stuy and how he got bared from the league. One interesting point is the lawyer representing the NBA to keep him bared is some young hot shot named David Stern.

2 of my all-time favorites - a couple of totally bad-ass guards from the 60's named sam jones and hal greer. assassins, total complete players who knew how to play brilliantly within a team game. didn't need to be called points or shooting guards, they had every skill in the book and played graet d as well.

Connie Hawkins was Dr J before Juilus ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRVING
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I think I read that book like 30 years ago! Great read with some nice Rucker stories.

Was it the Hawk that got his shock blocked by Wilt and Wilt said "welcome to the NBA!", then Connie pinned his shock and said "welcome to Harlem Mother Phucher!"?

WE never saw the real best of the Hawk in his youth. At least he made it to the NBA and eventually as a champ with the lakes.

Yeah when I first read Foul it had to be about 30 years ago too. I dug it up and re read it back in 92 when Hawk got inducted into the Hall of Fame. I don't think he ever won a championship.
What is so disgusting about how he got banned is that he didn't even understand how the over/under point system worked yet he got banned for shaving points.
