So Curry would have to be (say) a 24 ppg scorer with 1.5 blks and 10 rebs per with only 1.5 turnovers for you to change your mind about him?
Well, you are putting yourself in a pretty safe position, aren't you? A ridiculous one, but safe.
this has got to happen to make that investment stick.
Here-in lays the problem. No, Curry does not have to become Patrick F'ing Ewing to make the investment stick. There are plenty of teams that have taken dips in the lottery without ever picking up a franchise player that even
approaches those stats, including the team we sent those picks to, the Chicago Bulls. Barring a disaster that has the Bulls winning the lottery, those picks are being
vastly overrated.
This isn't to say we may not have over-paid for Curry. I said as much on the day the trade was announced. But now that he is a Knick, that is irrelevant.
What does he have to do to justify the trade? Cutting down on the Offensive Fouls while committing more Defensive Fouls would be a start. Getting over a block per, with over 8 rebs and 2 assists would as well. Improve the free-throw shooting and he is already a 20ppg guy and with those other stats he is an all-star. Yes, that would justify the trade for me.
But it’s also on Isiah to justify the trade by putting the players and system around Curry. Will Curry ever be a Patrick Ewing, someone strong enough to carry a whole team on his back for a decade? Even Curry's most ardent supporters aren't saying that. But he can be a key player in a tandem of talents that feed off of his game, so it’s up to Isiah to put that in place.
That’s what the
Knicks have to do to justify the trade, likely changing peoples minds about Curry in the process.
