This is an update to the other thread I started challenging UK to get in shape for the summer.

I will admitt that I totally tried to push it, but I crashed and burned. Like the knicks I keep blaming it on injuries, lol.

Anyway its still only April 28th. Meaning its less than 2 months till your kids get out of school. That's around 8 weeks and you CAN definately see significant change if you work at it.

I haven't been able to make any cardio progress but I reached some strength goals.

I was never able to bicep curl anything over 65lbs. I work out with 80lbs now. I never could do bent over rows now I work out with 135lbs. As far as legs I can leg curl 100lbs on each leg now and that is the goal I wanted to reach in order to play ball again.

As DJ would say, I'm still a fat bastard. My body fat is still 23%. That aint good.

Anybody even try to make a change to their diets or anything?

I really need to get going with this. While I'm not a fatty, I am supremely our of shape, cardio and strength wise. Haven't been able to work out very much since the baby was born.

Yeah I need to get in shape too. Can you post a link to the prior thread? I may have missed it.

My goal is to dunk over Allanfan. j/k
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I really enjoy lifting... I hate cardio and I really like to eat. So I'm not in perfect shape (five pounds from a legit six-pack), but I'm definitely proud of my physique.

I like to give some basic pointers to people because I like to see people hit their health goals and feel good about themselves.

  • Stop drinking so much soda (even diet) and drink plenty of water. I have a friend who at one point weigh 450 pounds. I **** you not. 6'8", 450. I gave him this basic advice because when the body flows through your system, your body does work meaning some calories are burned. Also, sometimes people confuse hunger with for thirst.
  • When you make a commitment to go to the gym, go everyday for the first month. I've heard psychologists say that something becomes habit if you do it 28 days in a row. So the point is this: don't lift and run everyday... keep to your basic schedule. But in between workout days, do some ab work or just spot a friend or play some racquetball or whatever. You'll make going to the gym part of your routine, which is important to long term success
  • 80-90% of weight loss is diet. I don't advocate going onto some strict diet. I say if you want chocolate, eat some chocolate... otherwise, you'll eventually binge and either suffer a major setback or feel so guilty you give up on the diet totally. Just don't eat a boatload.
  • On a similar note, understand portion sizes and labels. If you want a cheeseburger, make one yourself instead of going to McDonald's. Eat some fruits and vegetable. Eat whole grains instead of bleached, like whole wheat bread instead of white bread.
  • A pound of fat is 3500 calories. Realistically, you aren't going to lose more than 1-2 pounds OF FAT a week. You can lose more weight than that, which is basically water weight and not what you want to lose. Weightloss is a BS term... it should be "fatloss." If you must judge your progress, use a tape measure around your belly or have your body fat taken

I'm not trying to be preachy or anything... just wanted to give some real minor pointers

I gained sympathy weight when my girl was pregnant. You just gotta get it in. If its push ups and sit-ups while the baby is sleeping or whenever you wake up to go to work or something. Maybe you and mommy can help each other get back into baby making shape together.

I just know it feels terrible when you are used to being in a certain shape then wake up one day 7 months pregnant.

Good advice supreme.

I talked about body fat in the first thread. I can't find it right now though.

Gnc sells a body fat tester for $20 dollars. The thing looks like you could buy it at a 99 cent store. Its worth it cuz the weight scale only tells a part of the story.

Think of it like the dudes in the UFC. I weigh 205lbs. I don't look like anybody in that weight class. I don't even look close to anyone in the 185 class. If I were to get in excellent condition I would be 185lbs according to my calculations. That's 20lbs of fat I need to burn. I don't want to focus on weight cuz I want to gain muscle weight. We all want to gain muscles but that means the scale will rise cuz muscle is heavier than fat.

Blah blah blah, get a body fat tester and tell your scale to go **** itself.

Running 30 mins straight anyday for fun and not cuz you are running for your life is pretty impressive. Losing 3-4 lbs might not be what you consider progress but you may have lost more body fat than you think and gained muscle weight in your legs.

Keep at it. You doing better than me I tell you that.

I lost 15 lbs and have been able to keep off 10-12 over the past six months since I found out my blood pressure is borderline. I jog from 20-40 minutes nearly every day.

I really enjoy the jogging since it reduces my anxiety. I need to start doing some work on my muscles, however. I never do any lifting or anything like that.

I'd like to be around 190 with a good percentage of muscle to fat. That's about the best I can hope for. I'm right aroudn 200 now, from a high of 216.

Back in the day I used to be a Fitness Trainer, but then I got married and started having kids. I quit the fitness business and got a desk job. I pretty much stopped ballin and got fat. I got up to about 220, but i've started to get back on the court every day with my teenage sons and i'm now 210. I'd love to get to around 190-195. I'm about 5-10 in shoes. Medium build. I don't diet, but I have been cutting back on fatty foods which has made a difference. For my age i'm in decent shape. I can still grab rim off 2-3 steps, but man do I feel this extra weight. Mainly in the knees. I really need to increase my aerobic fitness, so that's what i'm focusing on the most. Also i'm looking to get my shape back. I'm not too far out of it, but that slight stomach bulge has to go. Circuit training is what i'm looking to do this spring. So we'll see how it turns out. If I can get my wife to join me that would be even better .

I hope everyone finds success in their fitness plans this year.

Thanks Supreme. Whats the easiest way to get your body fat taken? I saw a few people post but I haven't seen a body fat meter (if thats what they call them) at my gym. I need to stop drinking or stop mixed drinks with with soda.

I will take the challenge. I have been trying to lose weight for the past 6 months and have only lost about 5 pounds so far. I plan to step it up this summer and lose about 15-20 lbs over the next 3-4 months. I want to get back down to about 185-190 lbs. I am about 215 lbs now.
