Never, he got grunfeld fired along with siding with ewing in firing Nellie who would have had the knicks like the mavs with or without ewing being the focal point in his latter yrs.

So by your logic, does that make it okay that the players supposedly quit last yr?

i always like van gundy. still start crackin up everytime i think back to when he was hangin off alonzo's foot with his combover flopping to the wrong side. the best part about that whole scene was the look on zo's face when he looked down and noticed it was van gundy who was hangin onto him. classic stuff i tell ya. you cant make that kind of stuff up.

as for him leaving new york - he was no dummy. he saw the writing on the wall and was like, i am outta here. ownership is going to kill this franchise for the forseeable future. looking back on it now, van gundy is probably counting his blessings that he left when he did.

Allan Houston said he still hasn't gotten over the way Van Gundy left, noting that a player with similar problems would have been treated differently.
``I'm not saying his situation didn't call for what happened. But players that are a focal part of the team can't have personal things and say, 'I'm done.' In that way, I have mixed feelings,'' Houston said.

You have to root for someone that doesn't make a ton of excuses when his stars are missing games.

They were playing half the season starting Deke, Howard, Alstom, Battier and McGrady, with a limited bench and didn't fold out west because they play defense.

Isiah that genius let deke go and when push comes to shove if you inserted him into the knick lineup instead of curry the knicks would have won just as many games because of his rebouding and defense.

Don Nelson @Don JR and Ernie Grunfeld would have kept us among the elite in the NBA
with their basketball savvy and knowledge of where the NBA was headed personel wise.

How do you think Layden was able to land a job in NY with the knicks, jeff vangundy power struggle victory did that.

Jeff Vandummy you will always be known to me as the #1 Knicks Franchise Killer!

Van Gundy stabbbed Ernie in the back

and he quit

JVG inherited Pat Riley's guys and quit when he lost control of the players without Larry Johnson as his enforcer.

and he quit

Misterearl, Van Gundy did not stab Ernie in the back. Dave Checketts was forced by Dolan to pick either Ernie or JVG and he picked JVG to stay.

Him quitting is a different story though. He left us to dry. I remember just a couple of games before he left, he helped coach us to a then presently, .500 record, and he said "We're the Knicks. We're not happy at .500." Our standards have lowered significantly.

I actually am rooting for the Rockets, but that's just b/c I like the team in general. I like JVG, but I'm a team over coach kinda guy, y'know.

All coaches quit when they don't get along with their owners and GMs. Some consider it a mark of integrity.

I always liked Van Gundy, from his humble Honda and McDonalds to his slavish work ethic, bags under his eyes, and personal accountability.

I also like Yao. He's always been a smart and skilled players, one of the best passing bigmen in recent memory. Unselfish to a fault, but he's getting a nice little edge of aggression.

Never did much care for Utah. You know you don't like a team when you want the Bulls to beat them in the finals.

RESPECT?? He know he stiffed a whole franchise and led us into our demise to this very day.

If he looked back on what escalated by him becoming head coach he probably feels guilty. LAYDUMB coming aboard getting back junk for ewing etc... he was the domino chip that ruined this once proud franchise.
