While I understand you reasoning based on the skills of the players you want to bring in, I don't think we have to take any more chances with players coming off surgery or with guys that have mental issues like Artest. Why risk that? If we make those moves and it blows up there's no fixing that. It's those kinds of moves that isiah is already getting blasted for making. If we stay the course with the young guys in 2 years we'll have cap space and we can make better decisions at that time. This way allows us more freedom and with FAR less risk.
How will we have cap space in 2 years? In 2009 not including Frye, Nate, Balkman, Lee and Collins we would be at $41.2 million, then if you include picking up the team options on all of these players that would add another $13 million which would total $54.2 million. I don't think the cap would be raised that much by then.
Our chance at being under the cap was destroyed once we picked up Jerome James, an uninsured Q and Jefferies. But even then I would not want to add K-Mart, his contract runs until 2011!!! And he is not worth $15 mil!!! Artest on the other hand runs the same as Marbury's and he would make us a playoff contender, I have no doubt about that. So what if he shakes things up a bit... that's exactly what we need, some old school ass wooping. If we could get Artest for Jefferies and Nate or Frye I would do that in a heartbeat... or even Q and someone. Because Q's contract runs longer and then if we could somehow trade Jerome James and maybe MRose or Jefferies for some really bad contract that runs the same as Marbury's THAN we could get under the cap.
