Coaching: D

Coaching comes down to a few factors, the ability to take care of the ball, run an offense and play defense. you do those things with any group of players you should win as many games as the knicks have.....

What i find strange is the larry tanked the season, had to incorparate a roster that never played together, q, curry, woods, rose, francis, nate, frye, lee, davis, barnes, james. Had to deal with an obese eddy curry a mentally damaged q who missed the same number of games last year, and pretty much made a joke of the season and isiah has won 9 more games. 9! Sure we have had our injuries you can say lee and crawford, but can't say q since the messiah said he knew he was taking on a player that needed major surgery with a long term unisured deal for the privledge to take nate robinson. IF YOU LOOK AT THE GAMES THE KNICKS HAVE BEEN BLOWN OUT OF IT AMOUNTS TO ROUGHLY 25% OF THEIR GAMES

Development & Going Foward:

Isiah has proven adept at one thing, selecting nice role players to glue the thing together and these role players could turn into fringe All-Stars

Lee and Balkman
-For some strange reason I see Isiah moving Lee this offseason to get JO, just to prove a point how right he was about Balkman. I give him credit he perhaps selected the NBAs top 3-4 rebounding combo for years to come, once they both get starters minutes. Not far fetched to imagine double doubles, if we had a pg that could run a break, god help everyone.

And Collins will be a step above Charlie Ward long term which is something every team needs.

Curry:
Isiah needs to turn Curry into Shaq in order to justify possibly helping the bulls sign ben wallace and trade for Garnett with the knicks lottery selections, bet on it happening. If Curry leaves isiah sights this summer the team is doomed. The entire fate of the francise is dependent on getting this guy into fighting shape and drilling him all summer. Which i believe is possible, since isiah is a proud fool and will be on a mission, hopefully. Lock Jerome James in a suana and see what happens

Allan Houston:
Will he be a cheap bastard and try to go for the most money or will he realize that his deal started the decline of the franchise and give us 15 minutes a night off the bench to space the floor for curry. Don't count out the serious asset that he can become for this team if he comes out of retirement.

Frye, Crawford, Nate:
2/3 need to be moved in a package to upgrade the talent of the team, or even to move up in the draft to get our hands on a pg, or a sg.

Draft Selection:
Can we move up in the draft through a trade or do we look to fill our sg spot?
Arron Affalo?
Morris Almond?
Rudy Fernandez?

Do we go with a power foward
Josh McRoberts?
Tiago Spittler

Second Round Talent
Sean Williams
Jared Dudley
Curtis Sumpter: Wild card could be a nice backup three at a low cost that can stroke it

Isiah said he can make this unit a contender, and there is a slight possibly to do so with the right trade. We missed the boat having ariza instead of jefferies and francis. who amazingly would have given us more production than both for 15 million less. But if he can swing a deal to get someone that can space the floor and make things happen with the right draft and the development of curry i think he may have a chance to make good on his promise.

Good thread

Josh McRoberts?
Tiago Spittler

I was going to make a thread of my own stating how the Knicks maybe should go after a big man for balance purposes this draft. But looking back at the past drafts. Since 2003, and not counting the 2006 draft as the jurry is still out. There are only 7(Howard, Okafor, Bosh, West, Jefferson, Kaman, Lee) big men out of all the big men drafted in the first rd since 2003 that are more than average role players. Though the jury is still out on 2 more(Biedrins & Bynum).

If we keep him I believe the best course of action is to lose the muscle that he added this summer, he is way to mechanical almost robot like on the court. He had a lot more strong finishes last year and was much more fluid.

I think we have to go after a SG because we have the chance to get a good one (i.e. future all-star potential) with our pick. I am not sure we can get that same value at the PF spot but it might be possible. The question is who is better, Affalo, Almond, or Fernandez. All of them may be available when we pick. I personally like Almond because he seems like the best overall scorer, but Fernandez can really shoot and Affalo is the best defender of the bunch.

Affalo
NBA Comparison: Raja Bell
Strengths: Possesses an NBA ready body, blessed with excellent upper body strength … Moves extremely well without the ball in his hands, understanding how to free himself for shots … Works well running off screens where he is a capable shooter … Has three point range on his jumper … Good finisher in transition … Body strength enables him to convert difficult shots with ease as well as the ability to finish after contact … Plays the game with poise and maturity rarely found on the college level … Shows great patience, rarely does he play out of control or force the action … Simply allows the game to come to him … Leadership qualities and the mental toughness he brings each game sets the tone for his team … Unselfish player who possesses solid court vision … Does a great job of feeding the post … Excellent basketball IQ, makes great decisions during games … Uses the mid-range jumper with the best of them … Despite the coverage if you give him enough daylight his quick release allows for more than enough time to shoot … Underrated rebounder capable of making an impact on the glass … Defensively he does an admirable job of staying in front of his man … Shows good body control when he penetrates the lane … Quality free throw shooter … Extremely coachable player whose work ethic is among the best in the NCAA … Fundamentally he is as sound as them come … Despite his struggles in the Final Four last year, he has proven to be a very clutch player ...

Weaknesses: Afflalo is a decent athlete but not a great one capable of dominating defenders with his explosiveness … Lacks the first step to gain full separation from his defender … There are times where he becomes too perimeter oriented offensively … Would benefit more if he attacked the basket where he can put pressure on the defense … Ball handling is okay but could stand to be refined as he isn’t comfortable when pressure is applied … Some have questioned if Afflalo has the ability to create scoring opportunities for himself … Due to his athleticism, he is closer to reaching the ceiling … Can go through periods where his jumper is inconsistent … May struggle in an up-tempo offense where quickness is a bigger factor than a half court set … Doesn’t always look to dominate opponents, has a habit of being too passive although he is improved … Despite being a solid free throw shooter Afflalo’s style of play rarely allows for him too draw fouls, and get to the free throw line … lack of lift limits his ability to finish on the break and shoot over athletic defenders ...

Hard workers are always welcome, especially people with brains and desire

Almond
NBA Comparison: Michael Redd

Strengths: Almond possesses an NBA ready body capable of handling contact … Explosive and crafty scorer who can put up big points in a matter of minutes … Has legit NBA three point range … Does a great job of utilizing the mid-range on his pull-up jumper … Excellent rebounder who makes a great impact on the glass thanks to his long arms and awareness … Basketball IQ is very advanced, understands the game’s nuances … Despite his scoring mentality, Almond remains unselfish as he continually looks for open teammates … Moves extremely well without the ball, usually gets open by working of screens and picks … When slashing to the basket, he has no problem converting due to his body control and strength … Shows a good post up game to take advantage of mismatches … Because of his scoring prowess, Almond constantly looks to attack his defenders and draw fouls … Superior free throw shooter … Finishes well after contact due to his body strength … Defensively he does a solid job of playing the passing lanes for easy steals … Underrated athlete who may not make breath taking plays but certainty isn’t below average …

Weaknesses: While an unselfish player at times, Almond will force passes into the post resulting in most of his turnovers … Ball handling remains an issue of concern, while decent he can be uncomfortable when pressure is applied … Opposing teams have adopted the philosophy of defending him by being very physical. While he doesn’t back down it’s not unusual for him to need a period of adjustment … Must approach the game consistently with toughness and the killer instinct to dominate … Defensively Almond would benefit by playing defense with the same intensity that he uses on offense … While greatly improved from last year, Almond’s jumpshot can go through periods of streakiness … Due to his team’s personnel there are times where he will force shot out of shear frustration … Would benefit greatly by working on his overall quickness and foot speed (plyometrics etc.) …

I think he is a keeper as well, like when you hear high basketball iq

Fernandez seems to be the better offensive player of the three, but he is rail-thin and will struggle defensively.

Almond is a better shooter than Afflalo but Afflalo is the better all around player as far as defense is concerned. Tough call. We need Almonds stroke from the perimeter, but Afflalo's defensive prowess is also much needed ou on the perimtere. Keep in mind, Afflalo isn;t a bad shooter and he also played aginats much better comp then Almond and in bigger games for higher stakes. Again, tough call.

could be true but I also saw him loose position underneath the basket to a guy like Ruben Patterson and remember thinking that Frye was WEAK.

I don't think Frye bulking up is his problem. The guy simply has lost confidence in his offense. IMO his defense is not really any worse than it was last year. In fact, in a few games he has played pretty solid defense. However, his offense is way off. I think his problem is that he often rushes his shot. The guy is a pure shooter but on half his jumpers it looks like he is just throwing the ball up there and rushes through his motion. He does this even though 90% of the time, there is no one really close enough to block his shot when he shoots. If he took his time, I think he would make alot more of his jumpers, which would improve his effectiveness. He also rushes when he is on the block. He just needs to learn patience on offense and let the game come to him rather than trying to throw up a shot at every scoring opportunity.

He gets nervous.

The blueprint for the future is ... More of the same. More Dolan, more Isiah, more Marbury, and more Curry.

Why change a formula that has worked so brilliantly?

Frye is not a pansy. He's a winner in the game of life. He is doing what his coach asks of him by playing on the perimeter and avoiding contact.

If he's a winner in life, that's great for him.

I can speak for the majority of Knicks fans and say we don't watch him to win in life, but rather games.

The blueprint is simply to get guys healthy

and draft wisely

In case anyone missed it, the Wizards minus Arenas and Butler, have lost seven in a row.

I think Isiah actually did a decent job as coach. Despite the problems this team has, which were basically the same as last year, he raised the level of play as a team. This team was headed to the point of playing above .500 basketball IMO. NOT on the season, but over the last couple of months. Feb. 6-5 and I believe in Mar. and Apr. we could've played at least a game over conservatively. We had a good chance at being a playoff team if not for injuries. We would've likely had somewhere between 37-40 wins this year if a bit healthier. That would have changed the opinion of what he did this year and I don't hold it against him that we missed our target, due mostly to injury.

Frye actually isn't that big, as with many players they tend to lose some of that extra mass they put on in the offseason. Jamal did too. Unless you have that kind of genetic make up, like Curry or Q, it's hard to change your natural level of body mass. Frye's problems are mostly in his head and partly due to Isiah not really giving him a good role or level of importance in the offense. We've seen him play well at times and he shows the kind of talent that he has when his head is in the game. He'll blossom at some point soon. He'll either do it here or on some other team.

My pick for our 1st rd is Morris Almond. I like his size, shooting and I believe he'll be good enough on D, to not be a liability. Afflalo would be my 2nd choice.

If isiah can work a trade for a 2nd rd pick, i'd look to take Sean Williams.

I'm hopeful that our young players will come back improving their games this summer. I can't WAIT to get rid of Francis. I tried to be patient with him but he's a horrible team player and he actually makes us WORSE.

Yea a little different than missing crawford, lee and q. Your talking about two allstars....And look at the margins that they are losing without 2/3 best players.

We still had Marbury, Curry, Jefferies, Francis, Frye in the lineup.

Bobcats lost by 8
Cavs by 5
NJ by 6
NJ by 4
Miamy by 3

Bold have been lottery selections

32 Blatche, Andray
52 Booth, Calvin
6 Daniels, Antonio
42 Hall, Mike
24 Hayes, Jarvis
33 Haywood, Brendan
4 Jamison, Antawn
8 Mason, Roger
51 Ruffin, Michael
9 Songaila, Darius
2 Stevenson, DeShawn
21 Taylor, Donell
36 Thomas, Etan

Balkman, Renaldo
26 Cato, Kelvin
25 Collins, Mardy
34 Curry, Eddy
1 Francis, Steve
7 Frye, Channing
13 James, Jerome
20 Jeffries, Jared
3 Marbury, Stephon

4 Robinson, Nate
31 Rose, Malik

And I don't hear the hornets bitching and moaning when their entire team has been injured they are still fighting unlike those pussies wearing orange and blue!

37 wins for NO
13 Games for Peja
48 Games for West
60 Games for Paul
52 Games for Jackson

I beleive that is a little worse than the knicks

didn't Marbury say that last year he was a "winner in life"? lolz.

and i still don't get why people talk about trading Lee. he was one of our best, most consistent players all year and we reward him by trading him? i mean guys like him and Balkman are not the problem with this team, its the others who need to shape up or ship out.

See it's not just about the number of games missed. It's WHEN they're missed. Any team should be able to survive for a while without one or two guys, but not when you have 3 top players out at the same time. They were without Paul, West and Peja at the same time for 10 games. Without all 3, the Hornets went 4-6. This happened in Jan. for the most part.

For the Knicks we've been without Jamal, QRich and DLee about 16 games. The team went 4-12, of course Steph wasn't there for 4 of those games. In terms of the hit to each respective team, the Hornets injuries were worse and they handled it fairly well, but the Knicks injuries have come at the worse possible time. That still doesn't excuse the losses, which the Knicks could've won. They did a bad job in those games. Who knows how things would've gone for NOK if they continued to miss those guys for 6 more successive games. To me there can be a cumulative effect. In any event good for the Hornets and bad job by the Knicks. However the injuries DO HAVE AN EFFECT!

Its irrelevant, chandlers and mason are both going to miss 10 games, all i am saying is if your without three starter you can 4-6 thats ungreal because the rest of your team is pretty much nbdl talent........

The Knicks are losers, that think they are ballers and they play like it. Steve Francis is the worst guard in the entire league for the price he brings nothing to the table. We overpay for guys that haven't won anything. Our whole team has no concept of winning and hard work with the exception of a few guys.

The knicks were getting blown out with their entire team making excuses, isiah was starting the one players, using the wrong combinations, limited his players for personal gain to save his job instead of actually coaching.

Fact of the matter is, Frye was starting at pf this season, curry at center, marbury at point and jefferies was brought here to be the starting sf.

So in reality you have had your entire unit relatively healthy for the entire year.
