Marbury May Be Done For Season
8th April, 2007 - 6:47 am
New York Post -
Stephon Marbury wore a boot and a suit last night - his season, maybe his most complete one, possibly over.

Marbury said his turf toe could keep him out the rest of the season.

"It's tough to deal with," Marbury said. "We saw light at the end of the tunnel. Now the door is closing. I think for us, we hate to be looking forward to next year. At the same time, injuries do happen." [READ]

now watch the knicks win the rest of their games and if he's out all of next season, watch the knicks win over 50 games just like the timberwolves, Nets and Suns..

This is good if for the one simple reason that our youth is going to get to play and we will decide on who we have to par off. IMO, it is a very important last 7 games for Nate and Frye.

This means the team will be playing like a unit, there will be more flow and ball movement. More Mardy.

Also we might as well say Frye is injuried to. Because he is invisible on the court anyway. Frye might as be injuried.

Thank God, if there's one thing that's been proven throughout Marbury's career it's that he's not capable of being the man and carrying a team to a good record. This can only help the Knicks.

Newsflash; the Knicks are basically out of healthy bodies. Our bench is all centers and power forwards.

Whatever you think about Marbs, this is a crippling loss.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I figured that this thread would turn into a mostly negative one towards Steph. How about we just take the positive aspect that this will give the kids even more experience? The last 2 games Nate has been playing better and i'm glad to see that. If we don't end up trading Nate, i'd like to see him play smarter and more in control. This stretch of games he's had some bad moments and recently some better moments.

Mardy has been GREAT! He's clearly gained more and more confidence in his game as he's gotten more PT. The traits that he was known for have shown up and he's just the guard that we hoped he'd be. That pick of Balkman and Collins looks a LOT BETTER RIGHT NOW, doesn't it? With them gaining so much confidence, that will be very beneficial for next year. Now we'll have Lee, Balkman, Collins and Jared as good hustlers and defensive players to move forward with. It was important that we learned what they had this season.

You're right on Nix. In my opinion, all of IT's picks have been very good. Yes, even Frye. A guy who makes the all-rookie squad a year ago can't be that bad of a pick, even if he had a tough year this year. He's getting killed by so many this year, but those are mostly bandwagon types who loved him last year when he was a standout. They are also the same guys who were killing Q last year before he bounced back. Having said that, if the Knicks can get better moving Frye, I'm all for it because I root for the team over any individual player.

Back to Balkman and Collins, these guys are good players already. That's why I don't care if we don't have a high pick this year because there are always good players who slip to later in the draft, you just need someone who has a good enough eye for young talent to pick them. And we all know who that is...

I'm gonna root like hell for our guys, but if we win a game for the rest of the season, that will be quite an accomplishment. Curry is either gonna average a ton of points, or he's barely gonna average anything cause he's gonna see so many triple teams and he's gonna have NOBODY who can give the ball to him besides maybe Mardy.

right now we also don't have anyone who can establish a perimeter threat to take pressure off of curry, another reason they'll just sandwich curry between defenders

This sucks.

Can't we use injuries as an excuse now?

Curry can't get 43 and 13 every night.

Yes and no. Surely we are depleted, but if we were really in "the hunt" I wonder if Q would have gone under the knife when he did and Steph would be sitting down.

IOW, our fate was already sealed.

The team didn't capitalize during the first 55 games when it was blessed with minimal injury problems to the key players. During their healthiest 55 game stretch, they were a .450 team. Most .400/top 10 lottery teams probably play around .450 during their healthiest stretch too.

The thing is that this team CAN improve and IMO WILL improve as time goes along. If we can develop from within and look to refine the roster a bit, there's no reason this team can't get to the next level or 2 in the next season. The Silver lining is that this team has a core of young players that you can build with and we've seen that many of them can play in the way that we want our players to play. Lee, Balkman and Collins in particular. Jared to me hasn't been as good as I think he can be, but I see how he can be a useful role player for this team. Just a couple more defensive minded players and the culture on this team is much different. Q and Steph have shown they CAN play a little D as well, so that's a positive if they can both heal up and return full strength next year.

I want to see this team develop to the point were we aren't relying on Steph so much. I thought we were headed that way before the injuries. Him being out right now has the benefit of allowing the young players to develop confidence and learn from mistakes.

Im praying this team goes 3-4 and misses the playoffs by one game so Dolan can say "Chocolate Bear!!!(In my head Dolan calls isiah what JD from Scrubs calls Turk some times, any whoo) Why the hell did our 20million dollar point guard only get 5 wins in 16 games, but a bunch of damn Rookies and second year players close out the season with 4 wins in 8 games without him!!!!!!!"
Then Isiah would be all fumbling and bumbling like a cross between Woody Allen & Ed Cramden...... Can't wait.
